I think there is an amazing consensus on this board that the Kings should do something to get more picks or move up in the draft. My question is:

Will he?

After all, he's never done it in his entire history as a King's GM. Why is it different this time?

He should, but I don't think he will. Judging by the way this offseason has gone sitting on his hands seems to be pretty typical. Optimally we should trade Artest prior to draft day to get an extra pick and possibly even move down to get a third.

I have a feeling he will. We all know Artest is gone. The Kings have been VERY clear they are going to try to trade him this offseason. Suprisingly there are teams out there that want Artest as well!

Even if Artest isn't traded I can see the Kings picking a player at #10..... Than all the Kings fans say;

"OMG PETRIE, WHY DID YOU PICK THIS PLAYER!?"

than eating those words when you hear Stern say;

"There has been a trade... The Kings trade the draft rights of Spencer Hawes to the Detroit Pistons for the rights to Jason Smith, and the #27 pick."

I think he will probably make a move, it probably won't be a major move or it might not even be something most of us want (trading down instead of up). But I think he will do something.

I think the most likely sign that he'll make a move on draft day is that he's been scouting and working out guys who aren't likely to go top 10, such as Kryrolo Fesenko and Aaron Gray. But who knows.

Doesn't Petrie always do this though? Petrie has an eye for diamonds ni the rough imo. He can tell a lot by working someone out. But you are right about a guy that might go 30 we wouldn't pick at 10 if 100% we could get them at 25. Tehre would definitely be a trade involved.

I think he will and that will be a 2nd rounder for future considerations. I very much doubt he will make a deal inside top 30 or heaven forbid move up inside the top 10. Thats just not his style.

Petrie's traded the right to Dan Dickau to Atl on draft night...for a future 1st. Also, wasn't Mike Bibby/Jason williams swap on draft night?

No the Bibby trade occurred a couple of years after Williams had been drafted....I didn't know about the Dickau trade.

Williams and Bibby were drafted the same year and were traded for each other 2 or 3 years after the fact....I think it was on or at least near draft day when they were dealt for each other.

Jason Williams and Nick Anderson were traded to the Grizzlies for Mike Bibby and Brent Price on June 27, 2001.
