Wiki Wiki Grand Opening

I meant to post this a few weeks ago, but now seems as good a time as any (not least because I right now am remembering to do it )

But Coach T mentioned a new smoothie place Wiki Wiki (and that they had named his favorite smoothie after him) during one of his Monarchs Talk interviews last month and I went to check it out the next day since I happened to be in the neighborhood and because coach T said they are 100% natural with no added sugar or artificial sweetners).

It's located in the Safeway shopping center on Howe, near Fair Oaks and Univerity. The actual store is behind the Countrywide Home Loans office in that plaza. The reason I mention them here is that besides being a favorite haunt of Coach T (when he isn't in Tokyo'Fro's which is also around the corner) is that Ticha Penicheiro is their celebrity endorser. I noticed when I first walked in that she adorns the cover of their smoothie menu (she also will have the Mango Mambo smoothie named after her when the place celebrates its grand opening).

The owner is VERY cool and is a pretty big Ticha fan and fan of the team. He was telling me a few weeks ago that they will be holding their grand opening on Thurs Sept 29 (don't remember the times but I want to say that the event is from 3-7pm). He told me that Ticha will at some point be behind the counter serving smoothies, so it might be a fun event to drop by to take it in. I'll see if I can find out when they expect to have Ticha there and post it, but I do recommend the smoothies too.

you know, I might very well just buy that day...since they are going to be serving up some free smoothies of some sort.

I was in there after the game on Sunday and a woman was recommending a new smoothie to me, she also was a BIG fan of coach T and was very interested in knowing when he usually stops in. So apparently he IS quite the ladies man

The word I have is that Ticha will likely be there from 3-6pm but the person I spoke to wasn't entirely sure. I would suspect that coach T may make an appearance as well since its right around the corner from his Tokyo 'Fro's haunt.

I'd say meet me there between 5-6, closer to 5:15-ish if I can manage to leave the office on time. I have somewhere to be at 7 so I can hang around a bit. They are supposed to have live music in the little courtyard they have so I may just hang there for a bit.

Hard for Ticha to be there if shes in Portugal Kara said they all were in Europe except for her and Haynie and there was an article somewhere that said that Ticha was visiting her family before she went off to Russia.

I heard that too, slug, but then she clarified that players had either left or would be leaving next week. I don't know about Ticha, but when I was at Arden Fair Mall a couple of days ago, I was wearing my Monarchs championship t-shirt and was told that Yo had just been their earlier. Darn! I missed her.

Ticha I'm pretty sure is still in town since she had committed to being at this event a few months ago. The owner was telling me that they had to work out a date that was after their season ended and they had settled on a date a week after the Finals ended because I guess Ticha felt pretty darn sure she was going to working that far into the month of September.

Oh.........well, I got there about 5:00. I spoke with Ticha and Coach T, who were standing outside. After getting some free refreshments, I spoke with Ticha again when she came in and cut up some soft pretzels.

Both MontysBiggestFan and MamaBristow showed up, and we all had a nice chat for over and hour (every once in a while speaking with Ticha). Once she came out of the Kitchen area and hung out with us for a couple of minutes. I told her we had just been discussing her free agency. She raised her eyebrows and grinned. We told her that we decided, no way was she going elsewhere because she loved Sacramento, and besides, it would be Yo's farewell year and she was not going to miss that since she and Yo were good friends. She smiled and nodded as if to say, "you got that right." We also talked about her getting ready to leave. She said she was almost ready to leave for Portugal to visit family, and then on to Russia to play. She agreed that she and Yo would be on different teams after playing on the same team for two years. She would also see DeMya, who was playing on a different team, as well.

When she was ready to leave (at about 6:30) she stopped one more time and spoke with us. She told us that she was leaving, and we wished her well, and told her to take care of herself in our off-season. She thanked us and said, "thanks...see ya" as if we were old friends.

p.s. I thought that the smoothie named after Ticha (it has mango in it) was the best one. No kidding! I tasted 3 different kinds. I did not taste the one named after Coach T because it was not just a regular smoothie. It was a power drink.

Oh, btw - Coach T had already left before MBF and Mama got there.
