Why is our shooting so bad?

We have alot of good shooters but night in and night out our shooting percentage is crap. Just off hand I can think of a handful of really good shooters on the team. Why is it that almost every night we play we cant hit anything? I have seen too many games this year were our shooting percentage was extremely low. I am dumbfounded as to why that would be.

1. We have no offense.
2. The ball never goes into the post.
3. Too many jump shots
4. Only one good passer on the team.
5. Too much one on one
6. Too many bad shots.
7. No putbacks.
8. We suck.

4. Only one good passer on the team.

That is what I was thinking. We have no really good passers like we have been accustomed to in the past. Mike Bibby is a shoot first point guard. I have been saying it for years, but no one has really believed me until now. The ball does not move! There is too much one on one going on and ball movement is completely missing.

The main problem for that is that our main opitions our Brad, Bibby and Artest and they are the ones struggling. Our most solid and effective scorers all year have been Sar and Martin and they are the ones who get it the least.

people just were not making shots, sometimes the ball goes in sometimes it doesn't. it happens to everybody.

Oh, lord. SAR has one decent game and now you're back saying he's our most solid and effective scorer?

Did you WATCH tonight's game? I could have taken the ball inside with more effect than Shareef did...

Why is our shooting so bad? Well it's pretty damn hard when all the opposing coach has to do is to prepare his defense for us is... "Guard the iso..."

During the season as a whole sar has been a solid player on the offence end thats when he gets the ball. And not trying to make this sar is our best player thing because obviously he is not, but if we used the post more often even with artest we would be a better team for it.

SAR is a freaking black hole... When that ball goes in to him when he's posted up that ball is going up... The most effective thing about posting up and drawing double teams is the ability to open up shots for your teamates. Hard to do that when the ball goes in and never comes out. Not only that he tends to go into 3 or sometimes even 4 guys and still try to put it up. Often dribbling it off his foot or drawing an offensive foul.Kevin Martin and Kevin Martin alone is the only solid, effective, and relatively consistent scorer bottom line.

IMO, its because you don't have anybody setting your shooters up. Everything is 1-on-1.

From what I saw from the Kings tonight, they had a lot of guys trying to get their own shots, and nobody trying to get anybody else a better shot than they had.

Oh, that's so just the tip of the iceberg, Kstat. As a Pistons fan, you can't possibly be expected to understand but it's not anything as simple as one problem.

Our problems are like icebergs...

I'm not trying to explain why the Kings have terrible chemistry. I'm just trying to explain why they shoot such a terrible percentage despite having quality outside shooters.

Too much 1-on-1, not enough ball movement.

Nobody said anything about team chemistry, Kstat. And how many Kings games a year do you watch, dude?

This was their 4th game in six nights - ON the road. Tonight was not indicative of much of anything. Thanks for the input and I'm not trying to be rude, but I think we KINGS fans are in a much better position to assess our team's shortcomings than a Pistons fan.

And yes, there wasn't any ball movement but even when there was the shots weren't falling.

Never mind that... How do you like Webber signing? ;)

Webber reminds me a lot of Divac now. He can't do much 1-on-1 anymore, but he'll make the other 4 guys on the floor better players offensively, and he'll score points off them as well.

I think he needs to get into better shape, but right now I'm very happy with the double-double he's giving us.

And I love having a center that can pass like webber. I realize he wont block many shots, but i'm willing to make that trade-off.

I'd tac this on to my last post, but for whatever reason this site doesnt allow me to do quick edits.

Why don't you just shoot me in the head?

But seriously, that is exactly what I thought about it too. If Webb embraces it and makes the most of it, good things will happen both for him and the Pistons.

Well, I think Webber's come to terms with the fact he's no longer athletic enough to play forward, and he has to become a center if he wants to keep his career alive.

So far at least, he seems to be having fun with it. And he's having an easier time taking slower-footed centers off the dribble.

Heck yes he does! We suck this year!

Say what you want about Adleman, but he always made sure that the Kings the most opportunistic and effective shots. They didn't just yank it up off their heels when they still had plenty of time to work the 24 second clock. They're shooting lazy, hoping that the quick shot will get the other team by surprise. Since there's no team chemistry and they don't get along with each other, no one's willing to give up the rock for a better shot.

Our shooting sucks because we don't have Pete Carrill helping the players w/their mechanics and their heads!

BRING BACK COACHIE!!!

I don't think that's what he said, nor is it the reason.

Shareef has been pretty solid all year long ... and on the limited number of touches it's actually quite impressive.

The fact that our only guy that has averaged over 20PPG in most of his seasons can only manage to get 7-8 shots a game is a joke. I've said it over and over and over again .... This team is not good enough to avoid the post.

Did you WATCH tonight's game? I could have taken the ball inside with more effect than Shareef did...

That's cool. How many times did Shareef get the ball in the post? Once ... maybe? Pretty hard to "get going" on 2 shots inside the offense. His third shot was an offensive put-back.

Our team IGNORES the post! IGNORES IT!

Unfortunately I don't think the majority of Kings fans understand the post since our teams have not used it much in recent years.

It's to be expected. That is his comfort zone and he's touching the ball a very limited number of times in that spot. He's trying to take advantage of the few number of times he actually gets the ball out of the hands of our wonderful perimeter players.

It's hard to be a black hole on 7 shots. I don't care what you say.

The most effective thing about posting up and drawing double teams is the ability to open up shots for your teamates.

You, my friend, have no clue then.

The most effective thing about posting up is that all your shots are within 5 feet of the hoop and are far more effective and hit with a much higher percentage.

Double teams come as a result of how high a percentage a player can shoot in that position.

Our shooting sucks because we don't have Pete Carrill helping the players w/their mechanics and their heads!

No. Our shooting sucks because we have a bunch of selfish players that are looking to put up their numbers.

There is no team unity.

Everything our players seem to do is driven by one goal ... helping themselves. Even on defense, half our team doesn't do a thing because it seems they want the ball back so badly it's not worth the effort.

There are only a handful of players (and that's generous) on this team that even buy into the team concept and pass up shots.
