Who said REKE wasn't atheletic?????

The guy is VERY athletic as has been discussed previously. He can't jump but he is explosive in other areas of athletic ability.

Given Tyreke's penchant for spraining his ankle, do we really want him to be soaring over the defense on a regular basis? I think not.

Plus, learning how to play the game the right way without counting on your athleticism can make the transition into your late 20's and early 30's that much easier.

Athleticism isn't always about having a 38+ vertical. Tyreke is a different kind of athletic animal.

He is no slouch in the jumping department, but his bread and butter is his ability to utilize his quickness, first step, and strength to leave opponents in the dust.

As far as I know, there's no difference in points between a dunk, a lay-up, a floater or an hook, etc. Scoring doesn't seem to be a huge issue for Reke. I agree that I'd just as soon not see him going high for dunks anyway, because of that ankle. Basketball is brutal on feet, ankles and knees as it is.

12 years ago I could do that as well. I’m the same height as Tyreke and consider myself a VERY unathletic white boy. As others said, his jumping ability is not impressive but his ability to turn on a dime and get that quick first step are things I could only do in my dreams.

See Nash, Steve.

Lol those floor alley hoop dunks are overrated
usally players that cant grab the ball with one hand dunk those
tyreke has an amazing first step that is better for abasketball player then a crazy vertical
BTW pooh jeter is one of those players that can dunk only with a floor alley hoop

Dunks are visually nice, but way overrated. 51% of Tyreke's shots were at the basket in close range. Only 2% total of his shots were dunks. So Tyreke has wonderful athletic ability to get to the basket and score or draw fouls. So dunking is nearly worthless when it comes to evaluating his game.

Tariq Abdul-Wahad could do all KINDS of crazy dunks! Behind his head, through his legs, he could jump out of the GYM! I believe he is now asking people if they want FRIES with their happy meal. It isn't always about how HIGH you jump. It is WHEN you jump, WHERE you jump. Basketball is about so much more than just jumping and dunking.

The League has seen thousands of players come and go who had all the athletic ability in the world. But unless you can put that orange ball in that orange hoop on a regular basis, you cant make it in the NBA. You have to be able to defend, dribble, pass, block, set screens, make free throws, take charges, steal the ball, and so many other non jumping related athletic abilities. It's looks great to be able to finish the ALLEY OOP, but there is a lot of time between opportunities to OOP.
