I may be missing something here, but why should loyal Monarchs fans have to buy tickets to a Kings game to meet their new head coach?

Sometimes the marketing ideas that come out of Arco truly astound me...

Nope, you aren't missing a damn thing VF, not a damn $%%### thing.

I mean, unless there is a tractor pull at ARCO on Tuesday night....or Thursday night, or unless Arden Fair Mall is booked for the week...Or monkeys fly out....aw, let me stop. Y'all know I'm mad right?;)

Geezus.....for all y'all who do go, PLEASE tell me y'all didn't plunk money down to meet Abatemarco, Ambers or Shuman....please.....I might blow a blood vessel should that happen and it won't be pretty.

Well, I went to the Kings game on Sunday night. I am NOT going again on Wednesday (as if I could afford it anyway).

Linking getting to meet the new Head Coach for the Monarchs with going to the Kings game is a crock of sh**. And, I like both teams.

I certainly hope those of you who have been loyal Monarchs fans all along are sending emails to your ticket reps and to the Monarchs and to anyone else you can think of.

I sent the following reply to the message:

"What a crock.! I have been to two of the three Kings home games. I am still making payments so I can have season tickets for the Monarchs next summer. And now, in order to meet the new head coach for the Monarchs, I have to go to another Kings game. Talk about holding Monarchs fans hostage. This is as insulting as hell. Whoever came up with this lame idea should know of Monarchs fans outrage."

Edit: I sent the same info in an email to Danette Leighton.

If I can take a moment to vent here....since I haven't vented in the last 90 minutes. I'm getting a little sick and tired of cleaning up their messes by writing them (read: Danette) and complaining. Somebody sat in the offices @ ARCO and thought to themselves that this was a good idea, and some higher up signed off on it and this $#$$ was sent out to the STHs. I don't know what bugs me more, that they thought it was a good idea, or that nobody thought of why anybody might have a problem with it.

I mean geezus, how hard was it to think of something, ANYTHING else Not just a few us of, NONE of us go. Since this is apparently the "first" opportunity, make them give us %(%$%%$ second and third opportunity that presumably won't cost any money. They have spent the better part of the summer, fall & winter sucking money out of my wallet. They can pick up the ### ^*%( tab for me to meet the new coach.

MS&E, if you are lurking to get a temp read? Yes, I'm still hot.
And, btw, I hope you also fixed your email server problem and the players perhaps may have a clue before we do that they have a new coach and who s/he is.

I intend to make it my mission in life - or at least my mission for the next 24 hours - to find out and post it here first so none of our dear Monarchs fans will have to shell out hard-earned money for the stupid meet-and-greet without at least knowing who they'll be meeting-and-greeting.

:)

You ROCK VF!!! This may make me temporarily un-mad @ MS&E. Doubt it, but it sounds good to say every once and a while but they'll do something else to make me mad shortly thereafter because I let my guard down ;)

Thanks, VF. I would not spend any of my money just for a meet-and-greet without knowing who it will be. It's almost like paying for a blind-date.

I don't think the Monarchs fans need to be gouged for more money for these "events" just to see who our new coach will be, since it is going to be reported in the news anyway...for free!

Now, if the new Monarchs coach will be Michael Cooper, then it will reduce my anger somewhat!

If it Micheal Cooper, Anger will be the least of the Narchs brasses worries.

Im a Laker hater through and through. I may have to quit being a Narchs fan. Thats how insulting that would be( Hope you mind tht Hoopsie?:p ). And I may be grabbing a picket sign or 2, or 3!

KIngsTalk is tonight so we should hear something tonight about it.

Interesting...

I am with 6th and MBF on this one. BTW thanks for the heads up Monty. I have been knee deep with work. In case you didn't know Last Tuesday sparked a very successful week for me.

With that being said...

Yeah it is a bit on the insulting side to assume that we have money to burn. It assumes that just becuase we are Monarchs fans that we are Kings fans. I happen to be a Warriors fan myself. I also see it as holding us hostage.
You can meet your new coach, But only if you buy tickets to a Kings game.

Yeah Right.

Did MS&E force Kings STH's to come to a Monarchs game when they introduced Erin Mussleman this summer? (While they kept us thinking they would take our coach. Still a bit miffed about that.)

It reflects a mind set that they still do not understand the make-up of their STH's base.

Danette...(Since I Know for a fact that she lurks here)
I know you are trying. And for the most part you do a bang up job. So who the Hell Signed off on this Idea? What was wrong with inviting the STH's to stop by over the weekend and meet the Coach? Since the majority of us do work 9-5 jobs. And 38% come from over 45 miles to see the games. Did the Brass think we would want to sneak in a catch the Kings without paying the full price?
For me the Kings really are not that important.
But I may have made the Trek up to Sac to meet our new coach on the Merits of that person being our new coach alone. And if that had been made available, and it happen to fall on a game night... Maybe I would have decided to stay for the Kings game.

It does seem like we have been shelling out the Ducats from the time the Play-offs Schedule was announced.

They could have made the annoucement, then had STH's Meet and Greet at a local resturant. No Money out of their pockets.

Or Better yet... for the 50 people that could actually get to Arco on a Wednesday by 5pm, give up the Gawd Dang seats. Or have the Meet and Greet in a part of Arco that you can vacate before the game. What about the little orange building. Anything...

I just wonder why MS&E are so Chicken **** when it comes to their one and only Champions. Or maybe it is just Us that they feel that way about.

I don't think they expect folks to purchase Kings tickets.
It's just an offer, the invitation to meet our new coach is what is important. Most fans can get tickets to Kings games this season, without any problem. With that being said...

WHO THE HECK IS OUR NEW COACH??????
I'm very pleased they acted so quickly to get us our coach.

As much as I'd love the possibility of Cooper... I'm not feeling too good about that option at this point. Especially with the stupid M&G at Arco tomorrow.

Saw this posted by someone over at Rebkell's: "Cooper's in China with his basketball team. He was on the news here in Albuquerque yesterday with that story."

Still fuming

No, the expectation was indeed that for this exclusive opportunity for STH to be the first to meet their new coach, they had to first purchase tickets for the Kings Grizzlies game that night. I'm sure we coulda all purchased cheap seat tickets on our own and still gotten to go to the reception, since they told us in the email where the reception was. That to me is beside the point. If they want me to buy Kings tickets, fine I'm cool with that. If they want to give me other exlusive opportunities to go to concerts and events by virtue of the fact that I'm a STH, I'm cool with that too. But there's just something that rubs me COMPLETELY the wrong way about an invite to meet a coach and that invite be tied to buying Kings tickets. Its not extortion, because I don't really have to meet the coach. It's just stupid and insulting to me that they put that little thought into this, seemingly ignoring the fact again, that they still have a pipeline into my bank account that they've had since August. They can do chalk talks for free during the offseason. Those are just as exclusive. They also invite us to participate in the HPL tapings, those don't cost anything either. So why the HELL they thought they needed to package this and think I want to plunk money down for it, an event mind you which I rate a tad bit more important than any of the other events, is beyond my ability to wrap my head around. It could have just as easily have been coupling the m&g with a circus, moto cross happening at ARCO. My question would have been the same, "why did you think this was a good idea" period.

They had a concept in June or whenever it was for an Arden Fair Mall Meet the Monarchs thing, where the STH had exclusive admittance to an area in the California Cafe and exclusive access to the players who rotated in there. How the hell hard would it have been to have done that? No, how the hell hard would it have been to have THOUGHT of that instead of this? Did they think of that and it get discarded? For the actual number of people who go to these offseason events, did they really think the financial gain they got would have been better than the ill will its created? Here's another idea, three words "no host reception"

You wanna also know why I'm mad about this? Because when I approached them last year to see if they were interested in hosting a championship game viewing party at ARCO. I was told me in a gazillion and one ways that they thought it was a great idea, and they'd love to do it, but ARCO was booked and they were busy getting ready for the Kings season. Um..alright. We threw it ourselves (TWICE). THEN, they send an email, similar to this one inviting STHs to go to a Kings/Nuggets pregame before which they would have a meet & greet with an unnamed someone from the Monarchs (Ruthie). Lo and behold they bust out with a house video of title game with radio feed. We had more people at our parties than they had at theirs.

If you think I'm mad now? If the new coach is someone we've already known here and they wanted me to pay for the exclusive opportunity to "meet" Abetamaro, Ambers or Shuman, just in a new capacity. I will unleash a torrent never before seen and it will garner an slew of emails from me to the offices on Sports Parkway. I will be beyond insulted at that point.

The mysterious WNBA sources are popping up over at Rebkell's now. Confirming that it is NOT Michael Cooper. This is all we got so far:

"This Coach never played in the NBA."

"No, SHE didnt...
"

These posters have been pretty darn reliable as inside sources in the past.

Well, I don't know of very many females who ever played in the NBA! Ann Meyers did sign a $50,000 pre-season contract with the NBA's Indiana Pacers in 1980. But now that she's running the Phoenix Mercury team, that wouldn't be her. And I am glad that she isn't!

Female, eh?

Please don't say Nancy Lieberman!

Hey, wasn't Musselman hired during the Monarch's season? And did the Kings have to purchase Monarchs tickets to get to meet the new coach!

Ok, the third--and possibly final--clue about our new coach:

Someone asked if her initials were SMS and this was the response from the source... "Nah. 'S' might be one of the initials, however..."

So after a little research I found a picture of Karleen (Shields-)Thompson. No confirmation, but so far she fits the clues.

#57
I lied... there are more clues coming... and they are getting MORE specific:

"Former W assistant...never been a head coach..."

"Jenny Boucek played for Cleveland Rockers.... going the wrong way.....

"

"I never said she hasn't played in the W...others did..."

"Yup, not Shelley Patterson"

"Definately not Susan Yow..."

and a link saying "this will help"

No, we "met" Musselman during a Monarchs game because HE came to a Monarchs game. As I recall after the introductory press conference, the community met Musselman at Arden Fair Mall and the next Monarchs game was after that event. If MS&E sent out an email to Kings fans to meet coach Muss @ a Monarchs game, bless their hearts. I just don't think they did that though because I think we would have gotten that invite too since I don't think they can effectively segregate their general email mailing lists and there was no reason to assume that we wouldn't have all wanted to meet him too since we were freaking going to be at ARCO too.

They blew this. Big Time. There is no way to justify it.
