The Jazz? The Hornets? Are you kidding?

There hasn't been a rivalry on the west coast quite like Sac vs. LA. None of the teams you mentioned have been that good except for the lakers. And they always find a way to be competitive with us no matter how garbage their team is. Although, that may have changed since we got Artest. Either way I don't think we will be vying for an 8th spot.

I think we will be competing for a 4-7 spot. Which means we will be competing with the Suns, Clipps, and Lakers. And maybe Denver instead of Phoenix if the league made changes with respect to the Denver/Playoff Slot problem.

why arent the grizzlies or rockets on there? but i agree with bawla... i doubt that we will be competing for 8th seed... and with the restructured seeding we could technically get the 3-8 seed without winning the division if im not mistaken... we'd have to beat out the mavs or spurs though for 3rd seed...

but if i had to choose one i would say the wolves....

Like i said before, we wont be fighting for a playoff spot like last year. I know its early to say but look how good we did with all the massive changes, injuries last year...

We should be right around middle of the pack, around a 5th-4th spot.

What's next - a thread about who we are going to be fighting for a playoff spot next year? How about in 2010?

Can we even let training camps start before we attempt to get this far ahead of ourselves? I think this would be a better question around the All-Star break. Kinda, well, pointless now, isn't it?

I'm not really sure how you answer this, since pretty much by definition any team we are are going to beat out for a playoff spot would have to be an 8th seed, and therefore no matter who they are, likely a 43-46 win team. Hence beating out one 43-46 win team is pretty much the same as beating out any other 43-46 win team.

If its aimed at which team is most likely to be in that position...well, as I mentioend in another thread no fewer than 14 of the 15 teams in the West are angling for the playoffs and thinking they have the goods to win 40+. So who the hell knows who actually makes it. There's a 1, a 2, a 3, and then a gigantic 11 team scrum for 5 spots.

?, if were having to beat out those teams in a close race, then eric has failed

Not necessarily.

And that is a classic example of the dark side of institutionalized optimism to being every season -- inevitably the team operates according to real world principles rather than optimistic fan principles, and therefore is constantly coming up short of the unrealistic expectations laid on it. Hence everybody is always "failing".

This is where you are wrong, the team(s) that we might battle are going to be better than the teams that are beneath them and vice versa. Someone is always going to be better. Besides, how do you know what teams we might end up battling and if we are even going to be in a position to battle some team. I think (unlike you) that we are going to be in a better position than fighting for the 8th spot, but thats just my opinion and IMO, this thread (or poll, whichever) is impossible to answer because we don't know and even specualtion is hard since so many teams have question marks going into training camp.

Not pointless at all, actually. I think its a pretty good question to discuss, its about the upcoming season. Who cares if training camp hasn't started yet, we know what most of the rosters look like, so its a legit topic to debate.

Well, whatever. The question just assumes so many things about final rosters for all the teams, injuries, new coach, new system, Bonzi gone, etc. Right now we don't know if everyone is going to be able to work well with what Muss is going to want to do, if any of the bigs manage to make the team and are going to be able to contribute. And nobody has had one minute of training camp yet. Not one. I still say trying to predict next season is just as valid as predicting this one with the astounding lack of data you have to work with....

But whatever. Have fun playing with the tarot cards.

the pacific division will be a dogfight between the kings clipps and the suns, everyone else don't even matter...
