Where are the Kings defensively? Keep track here.

In the NBA the opposing teams field goal % is believed to be the best indicator of how a teams defense is performing compared to other teams in the league. This thread should be an indicator of where the Kings defense is at at the stated time period.

As of 12/01/05, the Kings are:

27th out of 30 teams in the nba in opponents FG%, allowing the opposing team to shoot an average of 46.3 %.

As of 2/13/06 the kings are now ranked 20th in the league in opp. FG % allowing opposing teams to shoot 45.5% on average. Things certainly are looking as if they are improving as thats quite a jump.

Even better is the last ten games the Kings are ranked 8th in the league, allowing the opponent to shoot an average of 43.2%. And the last 5 games we are ranked 5th in the league allowing 41% shooting!!! Man, I think thats called DEFENSE!

Who are the top 4 in the last 5 games? I'll take a guess.

Pistons
Spurs
Memphis
Mavs
---------
Kings???

We leap from 27th to 5th best (last 5 games), with simply one Ron Artest. Me likey.:)

and 4 home games against struggling teams. We will know more when we hit the road

The Kings are 5-2 in the last 7 games. In 6 of those 7 games (not including loss to Suns), Kings are holding opposing teams to averages of 39.6% FG and 86.3 ppg (while scoring 98+ ppg themselves). Plus they have much improved rebounding, are averaging nearly 10 steals a game and 45% FG shooting.

Now if they have to start winning away games. The next two are Chicago and Memphis, both winnable. Let's see if this improved defense can carry over to away games.

... a trend I see happening is this:

With Artest in, the game is played on a TOTALLY DIFFERENT LEVEL

Artest getting a breather on the bench .... LEVEL DROPS

I see Artest really taking time with Garcia and Martin ... players NOT SET IN THEIR WAYS .... before, during and after the game.

Artest even waited for Garcia to come off the court after last nights game vs Atlanta.

Garcia in for Artest is starting to make more sense as Cisco is really getting after his man. Kevin is staying in front of his man better and better. Would rather see Price in for Bibby rather than Hart as he too can stay in front of his man and really harrass.

Yeah, Kevin or Bibby has to pickup the scoring when Ron sits or Cisco, SAR or..... ?

Artest has been pretty bad offensively for us so far.

For every good play he makes, he makes a boneheaded play.

I think people are wanting him to be superman so much that they aren't paying attention to what he's doing out there.

He's shooting sub-40% ... really sub-40%.

Blame it on the fact that he's out of shape. Blame it on the fact that he hasn't played in a while. Blame it on the fact that he's adapting. Blame it on the damn rain ... it doesn't matter.

Artest has not been this offensive monster. I don't know what it is, but people REALLY want to make him into a god-send. He's a great defender - the BEST and a very good offensive player. We're doing better as a team, because of his defense and leadership out there .... not because he's providing some offensive surge.

I'm fine and pleased with his offense so far. Sure he takes 2-3 shots he shouldn't, but his offense will improve as the hip-pointer weakens, he gets more games under his belt, in general, and with Sac.

Not worried about his offense, he's so versatile (on offense, and in general).

As of 3/08/06 the kings are ranked 16th in the league in opp. FG % allowing opposing teams to shoot 45.1% on average. That number is once again on the rise. That is the season to date stat.

In the last ten games the Kings are ranked 4th in the league, allowing the opponent to shoot an average of 43%.

We are also ranked 12th in point differential for the season to date. In the last ten games we are ranked 3rd.

Anyway you look at it, that shows a HUGE improvement for this team as it nears its way into being a top 10 defensive team!!!

this was a team that played no defense to speak of prior to the arrival of ron artest. he's one guy, and he's made that much difference. its good to see that the kings are playing great defense, even against the poorer teams. it means they're gettin' **** done, instead of playing in the half-assed fashion that they did through the first half of the season (that is, b.a. -- before artest).

Exactly. Part of being a good team is beating the teams you should. The Kings weren't doing that before. They are now.

yeah we have only gave up 100 points 6 times in the last 29 games that is exaclty how many games Ron artest has played for us. we had given up 100 points 18 times in our previous 29 games B.A.

Offensivly we had scored 100 points only 13 times in those 29 games B.A.
and 14 times after Artest.

Yeah, no updates right now. We've been losing! :D

Oh... I'll do it anyway!

As of 3/24/06 we rank 17th in the league in FG% against which is down 1 spot from that last posting. We rank 12th in the league in point differential which is good. We have a +1.33 point differential, which I believe was a negative earlier in the season.

In the last ten games we rank 10th in the league in FG% against. Also down.

Hopefully they pull this around during the weekend. Defense obviously goes beyond numbers, and our offense, more specifically TURNOVERS, has been the thing thats killed us lately. Our half court D is actually pretty good, but teams are running off our TO's.
