When Do We Blow It Up?

Having wings and prioritizing them are two different things also. Hardly any teams are out there running the "wings" they are talking about to that level. This is also partly looking at the holes on the roster as a reasoning, yet ignoring the same results when the Kings are playing big. The C's only rely on two wings and that's their stars. They have a switchable guard core and they're the bar right now. The Nuggets have basically 1 since Aaron Gordon is far more playmaking PF. OG is another unique one in NY, those aren't typically what you can find lying around hence why OG had so much interest for years. Only so many of those players exist. And the one super "wing" team in New Orleans is on the verge of going bust, so what about results? The Cavs arguably don't even play a single true "wing". Okoro is more of a SG/SF. If you go by some of the best teams you want a 2/3 or 3/2, not a 3/4 or 4/3. That's the new thing. It's actually been trending that way for awhile now. I guess it all comes down to what people think DeRozan is, sorry, he's been a SF/PF for a number of years now. Kind of like what Vince Carter and even Jordan eventually transitioned to as they lost a step athletically.
Nuggets have Gordon, MPJ, Strawther, and Watson
Cavs example is just wild when you know they have Allen and Mobley in the front court

Every successful team has wings I guess we can keep doing this combo guard bull crap and stay struggling in the play ins

Of course they do, but this idea that every team is loaded with them or plays all of them is a misnomer. The roster needs balancing but people act like Monte built a team that makes no sense. Maybe, maybe 1 extra wing that isn't Crowder I'd guess.

Recon the game is as much mental as talent. Between one sided officiating, two many injuries messing with player cohesion, poor roster construction, crap management and coaching… or just plain snakebit.
Hope to wake up tommy to some hot breaking Kings news. At least that would be exciting if only for a moment.

Yeah I'm good with trading everyone for picks + young players and going for a full rebuild.

Normally I would have been mad about last night's loss but I just wound up laughing when it happened because I fully expected it as soon as Beasley started draining those shots.

Yeah it's pretty much over. No shot at the playoffs this year and Fox has basically telegraphed he's out at that point.

Moving Derozan unfortunately is going to have to be a priority. If we're rebuilding it won't make a lot of sense for him to be around for that stretch. Getting our first big FA signing and forever and then this happening sucks but feels like our hands are tied if we don't undergo some kind of dramatic turnaround in the next two weeks

If we move Fox, why?

He might have to come off the bench, but he can be useful in the 4th with no Fox.
I would think it depends on whether or not we re-tool or rebuild.

If we retool, we could still be fairly competitive with what we get for Fox + Domas/DDR/Monk/Keegan

If we go scorched earth commit to a full rebuild then I reckon nobody is untouchable on this roster.

If Fox is moved, I think we go the retool route. A young piece and pick package, and we hand over the starting PG to Monk. Higher usg for Monk and DDR may benefit both of those guys and we may not even see a drop as an offensive team.

Curious if regardless of trades, have we guaranteed our place in the Cooper Flagg sweepstake?
Fox maybe gone sooner or later in which case we should get a good haul for him, plus our own draft pic in a good draft.
If whats left of the current team buys in we could be good in little time.

We need a lot of help for that to happen, unfortunately. Some teams have been tanking since day 1. I think the more likely response is to retool in the hopes of getting this current team into the playoffs. Not sure what that looks like right now.

I know most here are in favor of trading Fox at this point but I’m curious how Monk feels about this entire scenario?
  • Monk seemed to like Brown and resigned on an affordable deal knowing Brown was extended. Does he want to stick around now that Brown is gone?
  • Monk is obviously best friends with Fox and resigned on an affordable deal knowing he would be playing with him for at least a couple years. Does he want to stick around if the Kings decide to trade his best friend (Fox)?
Perhaps his love for the city of Sacramento and having the opportunity to be a starting lead guard (assuming Fox is traded) is attractive enough for him to be happy staying on the Kings, but part of me is interested in looking for trades that would send both Fox and Monk out together. Would it be possible to find an upgrade to Fox by sweetening that package by adding Monk (and picks if need be).

Fox more or less told Monk to go get paid publicly.

I thought Monk was gone when he did that, never thought it was because Fox had Klutch in his ear and was already plotting his way out, but in hindsight to where we're at now...

To me, Monk felt like a guy who really valued how Sacramento treated him. From the fans, the org giving him a huge role and letting him revitalize his career. I also think he really cares about building a winner here.

We could do worse than a Monk-domas 2 man game if we trade Fox

Mike Brown continuing to bang the drum on leadership within the team. Listening to one of if not his last interview before the firing, saying that Fox as well as Domas and DDR must continue to grow as leaders. It’s a process. We, meaning the team, don’t have enough of it because they haven’t been to enough playoff series.

Then he’s fired 20 minutes later.

Brown isn’t wrong. Here’s the big thing though. Giving Fox a Supermax extension if he earns it would be an issue. He’s just not a leader. Damn good player. But can’t get this team to a first round series win. Trade him for a good haul. Reap the rewards.
