What is a double dribble?

All my life I thought I knew what a double dribble was. But Dirk Nowitski proved my thoery wrong.

The Mavs better not win this game.

It's when you're at a party and there's dip and chips and you take the chip, dip it in the dip, take a bite and...

Oh wait.

Never mind.

This is terrible. That garbage no-call gave the Mavs 2 pts in the last minute of the game, and fouled Yao out. Not only did he drag his pivot foot when trying to pass, but clearly stopped moving.. and then started dribbling again! This is elementary-school basketball rules.

Can they just call the game now and get to Denver?

There are special rules for superstars. Dirk doesn't get double dribble, Jordan doesn't get travelling, Shaq doesn't get 3 seconds, and can shoot free throws however he likes, Kobe gets all charges against him dropped...

The list goes on and on ;-)

Yeah but that wasn't a "look the other way" call, it was a "throw the rules out the window" call. It was so ridiculously blatant, and the announcers pretty much brushed it off.

How in hell does a professional basketball referee not notice a player dribble, stop, and then start dribbling again?
