What Happened In the Arena Last Night?

According to some callers on the Rise Guys show this morning, the whole production of the game was a complete disaster including the Kings Media Production staff being responsible for showing dibilitating images of Detroit on the Jumbotron.

What is going on with this franchise? . Another lady said that the whole pregame introduction portion was a mess. This is not like the Maloofs. Somebody that was there last night let me know what happened. And why does it seem that my beloved basketball team is not in step from the front office to the court?

Nothing will ever beat the:

MEXICAM

God that was awful.

At a football game - they started focusing on mexicans with their "MEXICAM".

That didn't go over very well ... for obvious reasons.

I wasn't at the game, but I watched the pregame activities on TV and I had the embarassed feeling for the Kings and as a fan. That was by far the cheesiest, cheapest and most ridiculous thing I have ever seen the Kings do. It was even worse than what used to happen in the old Arco when someone would use a gavel and pronounce that the Kings court was now in session before home games. I think that this whole "gold standard" thing has gotten out of hand and it has cheapened the front office's reputation IMO. The website with Midas, the contrived quotes from Mike, Brad and Peja about the fans, the 6 statue that has "Bud Light" on it and now the opening for last night's game. It all reeks of Vegas style entertainment and promotions and to me it makes the desire of the front office, especially the Maloofs seem disingenuous. It's like they are trying to bend over backwards to kiss the fans' rear end and they are looking like idiots. The whole gold jersey thing is OK by me, but everything else is over the top to the point that they look ridiculous.

I am surprised by the distastefulness of the jumbotron thing, but not particularly surprised by the lack of quality surrounding the whole home-opener celebrations.

I've never thought that anything the team does to advertise the Kings--be it the pre and postgame shows, the Maloof sports ads you see now and then to the pre-game stuff has ever been that professionally done. In fact, stuff usually comes off as hokey and cheap. Can't really explain why... I just always am reminded of watching some cheessy local car commercial.

That said, the broadcasts themselves are usually pretty good...

I dunno, everything else has just always had a real tacky feel about it. Maybe it's like this for most NBA teams.

Is that true?? Good lord.

Look at the bottom right corner of the plaque. How many other statues in front of arenas can you think of that have a sponsor's logo on them? If the Maloofs were that genuine with this whole "gold standard" thing then don't go hitting up a sponsor, especially a beer sponsor to shell out a few bucks to help with the statue. Then again maybe Bud Light didn't pay any money and the Maloofs are just trying to help market one of their other ancillary businessess. Either way, it's tacky and cheap. The problem I have with the "Bud Light" logo in particular is that a great deal of the Kings' so called 6th man are minors.

OMG! Bud Light! LOL

Maloofs couldn't afford to cover that plague? Then it's not fair not to have budlight logo on these yellow or gold whatever jerseys as well...

How bout the fact that bud light just plain sucks.

Some observations from a first-timer.

Having never been to a game at Arco before, I have nothing to compare it to, only expectations. Leaving the game results aside, this is my .02.

Piston intros - enough said on other threads.

Pre-game entertainment - who was this violin chick? I'd have thought the Powers-That-Be would have lined up someone or something more respectable to play/sing the National Anthem at the Home Opener than some no-name wannabe hip-hop violinist.

Dance team - I agree with Prophetess when she commented last night that the "dance team" has nothing on the RCD. These ladies resembled exotic dancers more than anything else.

Slamson bores me. The Warriors' mascot Thunder is far more entertaining.

Having grown up around marching bands and DCI, I really did enjoy the drumline at halftime, would have liked a bit more of that.

The energy level in the arena seemed low most of the night, and I don't really remember the staff trying to do much to get the crowd into it other than flash "make some noise" on the Jumbotron. BFD.

I enjoyed the company around me, even the 2 Pistons fans in front of me, loved the guy behind us with his unique "de-fense" chant.

Perhaps I was expecting a more playoff-like atmosphere. Despite my nitpicking above, I did still enjoy myself.
