what do you think about this weather?

Without more rain this spring, this summer with be termed the "Worst Drought in 50 years". After the last two years of sparse rainfall, our water in storage is similar to levels we had during the 76-77 drought. This a third year of that kind of low precipitation would trigger mandatory rationing in most of the state (its already occuring in parts of the state right now).

While a drought is good for business (I'm a hydrogeologist and water resources planner), its potentially devastating to the state's economy , and would add to the woes we're already under due to economic stressers.

So, more rain is a good thing in my opinion.

I don't like driving in bad weather, rain or snow. We need rain and especially snow in the montains so desperately in Calfornia that I can gladly put up with it. The worst part for me? The smell of wet dog and muddy pawprints. :p

Um, wear a coat and wipe your paws outside! :p

Don't care much for rain, but low temperatures suit me just fine: my ideal climate is fifty-five degrees, cloudy, with a slight breeze from the Atlantic.

We had rain, wind and hail yesterday. In Irvine.

Now, that's not that big of a deal by itself. What's so crazy about it is that two weeks ago, this was the hottest place in the country. We were in the 90s. Now, our daytime high is 55. Up and down, up and down.

We were shut down in Portland for 2 full weeks due to snow. When it snows one or two days a year its totally awesome, when it sticks its a major problem for a city situated on several hills without an army of snowplows at our disposal. We've had a few more snow days since new years but thankfully it didn't last past the afternoon.

I was totally surprised to learn that you guys are just getting your first rain since I was under the impression everyone was dealing with storms.

When I lived in Boston I always got a big kick out of the semi-annual "Storm of the Century". The one in 1997 was the only one that was particularly worthy of the name in my book.

Not our first rain. But we are in our third drought year here in Califonria, so any precipitation is welcome. However, the major need is a good, wet snowpack, since that's what really feeds reservoirs through the summer.

This winter has been dominated by La Nina. That pushes storms north, away from California, up to Oregon, Washington.

Today is a lovely day, thanks for asking. :) Rains expected again this weekend.

...anyway I really don't mind a bit of rain and cold here and there, but my favorite is Summer. I like warmer weather, and longer days. Once the sun goes down I'm out for the count.
