"It's too bad," said the mayor's campaign spokesman, Steve Maviglio, "it would have been interesting to see who finished second between a bounty hunter and Sandy Sheedy."
It doesn't look like KJ is facing any real competition, altho some of the arena naysayers and others might vote for Hannibal Lector over KJ. (Thank goodness he's not running. ) I'd like KJ to be the Mayor when the new arena opens. He deserves that big time.
Rob Fong and Bonnie Pannell are not running for another term. At least Rob Fong should be around to push the arena deal through.
I had kind of an optimistic thought. It would seem to me that if a glitch occurred at anytime going forward, and it involved money, the NBA might fill in the missing amount. Or maybe there would be a guarantee of an All Star game if there is enough hotel space. They now have far more than a casual interest in the succes of the new arena and I would guess they would do whatever they could to make sure the deal didn't fall apart. If KJ stays in office, Mike doesn't collapse from exhaustion, Carmichael Dave doesn't move to Citrus Heights, and the NBA continues to function, we have a lot going for us.
And to mimic what has been said or implied, once spades hit the dirt, it may gain some momentum with the people. I know that personally I got an extra boost of energy seeing the latest artist renderings as it all seemed more real. Reality will be more real.
Tuesday was like going over the continental divide of politics. The rest of the trip may be bumpy but it's downhill as opposed to uphill.
