Whacky ron quote, #7458

"Sac is different. I love Indiana, but it's different out here," Artest said. "The crowd is unbelievable. When I was in Indy, the crowd fed off me. Here, sometimes I wasn't even in the game, and they were going crazy."

Anyone else find this hilarious?

From the quote you get the serious impression that he has no idea that they sometimes actually continue to play the game even when he isn't in it

funny ;)

btw, lest anyone forget the cardinal Ron Artest rule: do not try to get to analytical about any Artest quote, try to find deep important meaning, or allow yourself to get hot and bothered about it.

His words are like clouds, just watch and enjoy. Whether they are pretty pink fluffy things, or evil dark towering walls of thunder. Just sit on the porch safe in the knowledge: this too will pass

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Either that or no cheering for the other players on our team is allowed... :)

Ron is making the distinction that in Indiana the crowd reacted to the game, ie, if Ron or anyone else did something big, the crowd would go nuts. In Sac he says that they'll pump up and make noise, get into the game even if the team isn't doing anything to great. Even if you do read into that, I don't see anything wrong with it.

I agree. I didn't see anything "whacky" about that quote. I honestly think Ron was saying the Sacramento crowd is more proactive while a lot of other crowds, including Indiana, seem to be reactive in nature.

It wasn't that long ago that Arco fans sat on their hands and had to be lured into cheering by something they felt worthy of their applause. (slight sarcastic tone intended.)

Now, it's back to the way Arco used to be. It's the true symbiotic relationship at work. The crowd exorts the team, which responds, which exorts the crowd into greater displays of enthusiasm and encouragement.

If it was anyone else saying that besides Artest, I'm pretty sure no one would be over-analyzing it.

Now that I think about it, I believe I know EXACTLY what Artest was referring to with the "sometimes I wasn't even in the game, and they were going crazy."

Artest was at the scorer's table, ready to come in. There was a good play on the court and Artest responded with excitement, cheering for his teammate. The crowd reacted VERY enthusiastically to the sight of Artest being so enthusiastic about the play of a fellow King.

This is by far the best Ron-Ron fan "guideline" I've read so far. And yes, the actual quote both ha-ha funny and "funny" funny. Gotta love that!

You know what I'm getting tired of? And I honestly don't mean to make any personal attacks on anybody... But I'm tired of hearing the whole... Take anything Ron Artest says with a grain of salt. Like Ron could say, "we played hard tonight" and people would be like "dont take what he says too seriously." It's not as if the guy is schizophrenic, he does know what he's saying. So can we stop with the whole... Who cares what Ron says? Because to be honest with you... I do... Whatever he has said and or done has fired up this team, so I'm going to take his words with more than a grain of salt... But that's just my opinion... What if by some extremely odd chance that he even reads this board. It's no secret that this board is the #1 Kingsfans site. If I was an NBA player, I would like to read what people think of me. Or even a friend of his. I dunno... I just don't like trashtalking our players, nor making fun of their problems. And I do believe what VF21 said, I do remember that when he was on the sideline. He was so busy cheering that the ref had to remind him that he had checked in and to come into the game...

Agreed.

Ron is a very good basketball player - nothing more and nothing less. I wish that the fans and the media who enjoy off the court drama would just spend more time watching daytime t.v. and get their fill of drama there. We did not bring Ron here to make great quotes and offer great wisdom and philosphy. Personally, I just take great pleasure watching him kick tail between the lines.

GREAT POST!!!!!!

Ron says the very first thing that comes to his mind. It doesn't have to be coherent, or consistent with what he has said before. He just says it.

And, the Indy crowds suck, that's no secret.

I don't think that mcsluggo has suggested that everything Ron says should be taken with a grain of salt (implying doubt). I think that he suggested, and I totally agree with this, that whatever Ron says should be accepted as Ron talk and not overly analyzed. I am sure that you remember that almost anything that Webber said was beaten to death on this forum, and lately Pedja's non-statements were analyzed to the point where almost all of us were diagnozing the dude.

Ron is a very interesting character and a lot of what he says is just fun to read/listen to. I don't think that he should or would be offended by us taking what he says at the face value.

Agree with your post and very good points with one exception. (see highlighted above). Having watched him daily for the past 5 years here in Indy, and also being an general acquantance of his, he knows what he saying (or has control over what he says) at about the same level as a young child. (and that is putting it nicely). He means it WHEN he says it, but not always later upon further reflection.
