He's much more effective than Davion. He's going to be way better defensively than Davion. His offense is really inconsistent though.
McLaughlin had a 1.0 VORP last year. For comparison, only Sabonis, Fox and Monk had a VORP over 1.
Davion had a -0.4, which is really bad and last place on the team for the 3rd year in a row.
Yeah, people weren't familiar with this dude last night, but he's been a guy to keep an eye on for awhile now. He's a quality NBA rotation piece that's coming off his best season last year. And not just a 1 year wonder:
0.3 VORP, .130 WS/48
0.1 VORP, .062 WS/48
0.6 VORP, .123 WS/48
0.2 VORP, .094 WS/48
1.0 VORP, .193 WS/48 (damn!)
Not to mention he's had a positive DBPM every single season of his career. Just solid impact across the board over the course of his 5 seasons as a pro.
The PG market was very very dead this year (Tyus Jones doesn't have a job??), so landing a dude like this on the vet min is gravy.
