I wanna open this up with.... The Sacramento Kings rank 8th in the league in rebounding.... 8th... yes 8 outa 30 teams... i wanna say that one more time... 8th... 1,2,3,4,5,6,7.... 8th!
this "team can rebound" just not Hawes... whos 7ft tall
yes i realize that there is another Hawes thread going about "how hes finally arrived but "lets get serious guys" I thought he arrived when he had that awesome, driving down the middle of the lane one handed dunk against Pau Gasol and the lakers a couple years ago.... but i was wrong and so were you... so far
I dont hate this guy... I hate his wimpy game, and his excuses, but i dont hate Hawes... I mean for all i know hes a really nice guy that doesn't wanna work hard, put down a real screen or body up on people...
So... really.... are all of you Hawes fans out there actually watching the games??? He doesn't box out... he doesn't put a body on people... his game is weak... his effort on the defensive side is just terrible... although in his defense... he has gone after a few more shots as of late.
HERES biggest problem I have with Hawes
its his attitude... on both sides of the floor (but shows more on the defensive)
his body isnt that weak... its not like some of those project 5's that need to add 50lbs to play in this league... hes avg sized... there are plenty of players in this league that if given the body Hawes has would be great rebounders and more effective post players
but... he refuses to BANG with players! he shys away from contact... his a little sissy that wants to jack 3's all day long... he has this "AMAZING POST GAME" but he doesn't ever go to it because the other players fight him for every inch on the floor... he seriously shys away from contact to the point it just becomes painful to watch... Miller at least used to slam players down with screens!!! (ok maybe not slam down... but he held his ground)... plus Vlade Divac didn't shy away from contact!!! he got push around some but he fought hard... and he took charges! he didn't shy away from contact. when was the last time we saw Spencer on the floor?
Hawes has LOTS OF TALENT!!!!!!
but the age excuse is getting old... he has one thing to do... and he gets paid millions to do it and improve his game and help this team
We've all seen his amazing court vision with some of his great passes... He's got a good basketball IQ and a great feel for the game... so basketball vision and IQ are not holding him back...
size... his body is avg 5 size... thats not really holding him back... i mean could he be any worse than Vlad or Brad? size isn't holding him back as much as HIS WORK ETHIC AND CONDITIONING... but even then its his wussy game and shying away from contact that is the real problem...
IN the end only Hawes really knows what he needs to do to be a better rebounder/defender... but in the 3 years hes been here he hasn't taken any steps toward fixing it... his attitude is a sense of entitlement

Hawes, however, said he'll remain true to himself while continuing to heed the advice of those who matter most: the team's coaches.
"If you compare me next to Brock, I don't do a lot of the things he does as far as crashing in there and knocking heads around," Hawes said. "I just don't think I'm built well enough to do some of that stuff. I wish I could. It looks fun as hell. But when I do it, I don't think it has the same impact on the opponents."
"There's stuff I need to add, but that's what's going to continue to make me successful. I think when you try and modify your game so much to make others happier or to heed the criticism … it can be a double-edged sword sometimes."
"For me, also, it's a big year in terms of going in and being able next summer to start talking about a new contract."
hes a wuss... his attitude is poor... and if were lucky he will get step up his game next year so he can land that "BIG CONTRACT" he seems to be so motivated by...
I wish Hawes would "get it" and play pissed off like he did after that embarrassing benching... but Hawes cant keep his motor running...
