Hall of Famer
With and awesome win against the Champs, Kings snapped a 3 game losing streak and improved to 5-9 for the season and 5-2 at home with 4 more games at ARCO coming up and a chance to ruin some more of the rebuilding potential and a good draft position. The other 4 opponents aren't better than the Spurs which really means nothing at all but there is a realistic chance to split those games because Kings have shown that they can beat really good teams @ ARCO and that they can play well. Way too well for what we so desperately need. Lottery watch tells us that we have 8th worst record in the NBA right now which is not bad enough - not even close. Also there are 3 teams in the NBA that still haven't won on the road. This elite society consist of Kongs, Knicks and Blazers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monday night was a very weird night in the NBA. How often will it happen that Knicks, Wolves, Kings. Warriors and Wizards win at the same night playing against opponents with a winning record and some of the teams were on the road too ? Probably not again this season. If You like to bet and if You are wondering about the odds - call 1-800-TIM- DONAGHY.
This is a difficult league with lot's of talent everywhere and while there is a large difference between some teams in the best of 7 series - on a nightly basis - anyone can beat anyone and any given team is good enough to play well at any given night. We took advantage of our opportunities last night and it was just awesome to watch.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
After a win like the one we experienced last night - some fans think that they see potential in a team even to the level of a playoffs candidate. Can't blame them since they are fans and objectivity is overrated anyways. Obviously, the reality is different and it is obvious that we aren't a playoffs team in the West and we wouldn't be in the east either. We can't even afford to be a playoffs team anyways at this stage. Where we are going right now is the worst possible scenario which I have been mentioning it over and over again. 33 wins which looks like it is our destiny - is a horrible, horrible record to have in the NBA unless you are a young and developing team which we sure aren't.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
If we disregard this depressing overall situation that we are stuck in - and just look at the game from last night - being a Kings fan isn't as masochistic as it looks. During the last night - we were a great team playing on a high level on both ends of the floor. We were able to sustain all the surges that our opponent had. We even had 1 minute of garbage time. On the other side of the floor - the defending NBA champion - the Spurs looking like a lottery team. For that one night - things were really good in the kingdom. We will have more nights like this but the goal is that those nights happen as a result of the talent and substance night, after night, after night. Someday, maybe.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
After a career night for Beno Udrih against his former team and coach - we finally have a pleasure and a privilege to be on the other side if the "Tony Delk phenomena" It feels great. We know exactly how Spurs fans felt last night and obviously we don't feel sorry about it because we have things like this happening on most of the nights. The way that Beno played - it was obvious that he wanted to prove something to Pop. I was shocked to see a Kings PG playing defense - something I haven't seen since Bobby was traded. Can someone hypnotize Beno into believing that we are playing Spurs every night ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last night must have been a full moon since even Brad Miller looked like an all star from 03/04 season. 17/10/7/2/2 with 0 turnovers shooting better than 58% against the Spurs. Good stuff. So how could we get him to play like this more often ? It would help if Oberto would guard him more often which is also called Slowskys family reunion. Brad is a better player than he has been showing us in the last 2 and half years and now it is all about consistency.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kings had a best game of the season. Shot 55%, out rebounded Spurs, were better in all other statistical categories. Spurs were even in the first quarter and after that - it was all Kings which culminated in the 3rd quarter when Spurs looked like a lottery team and we made them look that way.
----------------------------------------------------------
AWARD TIME

Oberto gets the TDM award but it wasn't anything impressive which usually means - Kings victory

Finley gets LW-VC and it is always my pleasure to give it to him

J Vaughn gets SAR- Methuselah award.

WTF moment of the game - Washington copying Skinner
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Warriors are next and since Jackson returned - they are 6-1 and 4-1 on the road. We have to rebound and under NO circumstances play their game which means shoot threes and then some more threes. They are also very athletic and quick. They will either blow us out or we will win a close game. It won't be a game for Brad or Spencer so we will have to see some of our trio fantastico past Mikki Moore.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kevin - will bounce back
Beno - BD isn't TP
O.J. lite - will at some point in the game play C
Mikki - can he shoot threes ?
Brad - not a game for him

Hawes - more minutes
Cisco - had an off night
Salmons - well done
Kt & SAR - keep it up

rest - mateen

Coach T - could use 10 timeouts per quarter. Sponsors love it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Warriors started 0-6 and now they are 6-7 with a positive tendency. They play microball but they are fast, athletic and when they hit threes - hard to beat. BD will get his and I wouldn't be shocked if Ron guards him at some point. Azubuike will win the TDM because he has never done it before. Jackson will get the LW-VC. KT and SAR might play which opens possibility for more awards. Can Kings start a streak ?

Excellent post, as usual, Piksi.

I don't think that we need to worry much about the lottery this season--afterall, we got Martin as the 28th pick AFTER a playoff-bound season, if I recall offhand correctly, and look how good he is.

The Kings DO NOT have the luxury of having several losing seasons in order to do a long-rebuilding program, as the viewership has dropped drastically and the fans want a team that plays hard, works hard in at least most games. The Muss disaster had the team losing its motivation to play/work hard; the Theus team this year has the potential to play/work hard all season long--there's just the right mix of hungry young'ns, along with hungry veterans, plus unknowns from future trades.

With the arena issue hanging in the air, with the one-year Muss disaster, the Kings really don't have the luxury to go into a long, several-losing-season rebuild mode, even though GP has indicated that they are rebuilding on the fly.

The BIG key this year is GP--what will he do with this current roster with any trade possibilities. This team is a ripe one for trades--and it all depends on the situational dynamics of other teams that could change in a moment when key player(s) get injured (like a PG, PF, etc).

tnx piksi

And you're definitely right...we're screwed because we're sandwiched between playoff teams and I can't win a game team.

Oh well...GO KINGS!!!

Just continue playing D the way you did. No easy basket!

Actually, the kings were out-rebounded (43-42).
Although, the former worst rebounding team in the league is improving (I guess it is impossible to go down if you're the worst). The kings are next to last in RPG and 4th from the bottom in RPG differential.

This is actually a game on local tv so that means I'm in for a treat tonight :)

A great intro, Piksi. Those comments really cracked me up. :D

Bad news: Kings will probably play Warriors style and suffer because of it.
Good news: No Jason Richardson
True, but Artest is going to be guarding Jackson all night, which leaves Martin guarding Azubuike. I expect Kelenna to have a big night.

Of note, folks in Fairfield/Vacaville get Ch. 10 and all the local Sac area channels as well as Bay Area ones on Comcast. I've always wondered who at least that big part of Solano County favors more - Kings or Warriors?

i hope we don't try to go small ball and change our lineup.

we need to try to enforce our will, not try to matchup with them

Wtf are the Kings doing? Haven't they realized in past years not to play the pace of the warriors..

reggie really needs to talk to them about NOT pushing the ball in this game...we wont win if we play their style...they are better at it
