For Domas? Cuts his salary in half in a worst case. Why not?
Not really. The Warriors can't absorb any salary, so they have to send the same amount back (in this proposal, Moody and Hield to fill things out). We'd save nothing this year. We'd save about $5M next year. We would save about $35M two years down the road in what would be the final year of Sabonis' contract, but that would be mitigated by any money we used to re-sign Kuminga.

Right. If we're dealing for Kuminga he should be looked at as a talent addition rather than as salary savings. I also don't love the idea of using our one big tradeable asset to do it -- the hope there was that we could move out a lower value vet that we may have trouble moving anywhere else since GS is so all-in on building around Curry. A Sabonis to GS deal does potentially earn us some good karma since Sabonis gets to stay closer to home (which I suppose we shouldn't care about if we're "all business" but I still do). We probably are too early in this process to be worrying about fit in any case-- we just need talent, period. Getting Boozer or Wilson in the draft would be ideal but the odds of that are small enough that it shouldn't be the reason we don't make other trades.

But I don't know.... there's a lot to think about anyway, a lot of different ways this could go. I was hoping we could find a way to make a Sabonis for Okongwu and pieces trade work since Atlanta already knows they're getting that New Orleans pick (likely top 5) and they don't seem all that committed to Okongwu as part of their core. Porzingis works as the salary filler there and he's expiring but Atlanta may still think of him as a guy they want to keep. Then there's other young big guys who might be worth targeting to give us some of what we'd be losing in Sabonis -- Yves Missi on the Pels, Thomas Sorber on OKC, any of the young bigs on Phoenix. All in all I just think we need a fresh start here and some lowered expectations for awhile so that a new group can form their own identity.

Yes, Kuminga. Crater that trade value. Make it so the Warriors have to give us ALL their assets.

Oh wow, I knew this situation could get ugly but didn't expect Kuminga to go full "Kawhi Leonard" on Steve Kerr so soon. When Kawhi did this to Popovich, San Antonio eventually caved and traded him for... DeMar DeRozan. As fate would have it, we have one of those on our roster right now. Things that make you go hmm!

The warriors really could use Domas too.

This is the guy that Kings fans want? Gotta aim higher.
I've always been interested in Kuminga, but not in the "it's now your team" kind of way the Kings were promising in the off-season.
He's on a 1+1 with a team option. Little to no downside here. Especially if we can get him while shipping out Demar or Monk, without giving a 1st round pick.

Worst case Kuminga gets here, we see why he hasn't worked in GS and we let him leave this summer.
Best case he gets here and shows why he wanted out, we got a stud at a discounted price.

Beginning of the season he showed great promise passing and playing amazing defense but ya that”it’s your team” talk is ludacris. His price has definitely gone down but I don’t put it past this FO to still throw a first I would if it’s that stupid spurs pick which still pisses me off. How do you not get ‘26 from them you let them give you ‘27 which would be after two off seasons to rebuild around fox/Wemby this franchise is so ****ing stupid

The Warriors just played this situation so stupidly. Because Kuminga can just let it leak "Yeah, I'm not signing an extension with team x" and there goes his market. Basically the De'Aaron Fox situation on a smaller scale.

I really don't get why they just didn't take our summer offer and be done with it. They're assuredly going to get less at the deadline now and they've had to deal with him over the last 4 months of a guy who 1. Has no interest being there and 2. They've had no interest in keeping.

It's still a great bet for the Kings to make. Even with most of the top prospects that we'll likely have a chance at being forwards, with Keegan's defensive versatility, you can all of a sudden dream up some real fun big forward ball lineups with Keegan-Kuminga-Rookie F

Agreed. Golden State created this situation by refusing to trade him after it become obvious that they didn't view him as an important part of their core anymore. There has always been risk associated with Kuminga -- he came into the league as a teenager and needed a lot of work on his defensive fundamentals, shot selection, and 3pt shooting accuracy. Golden State invested in him because of the physical tools (a 6'7" long-armed super athlete with dunk contest hops, a linebacker build, and the physicality to match up with any forward in the league) but because they remain committed to Steph and Draymond they ran out of patience for developing his skillset and don't want to pay him market value.

There is a chance Kuminga develops into a two-way star who can lead a team to the playoffs. There aren't a lot of young players who are available on the trade market that you can say that about. But considering he's now in his 5th year in the league and some of the weaknesses he came into the league with are still weaknesses, the odds of him reaching that highest possible outcome are looking smaller and smaller. If you want to dream big on Kuminga at this point you have to sell yourself on the idea that his performance has plateaued primarily due to a lack of opportunity. But even if he isn't Lebron-lite, a more likely outcome is that he's something like a more aggressive and physical Harrison Barnes type with less consistent shooting but better self-creation tools. That's still a pretty good piece for a last place team to add to their roster if he can be added relatively inexpensively.

Rebuilding squads should only care about finding a franchise player/talent. Until you have one/two guys you can call cornerstone players, everything you trade/draft/sign in FA should be looking to strengthen those odds of finding a foundational player to build around.

Kuminga's odds of being "that guy" are still very low, but even if we said he has a 10% chance of being an all-star in the next 3 years... that's a bet we need to be making.

I’m not sure what to think about Kuminga. He’s talented but what is the vision? Hes not a number 1. He could be a number 2 possibly. So Keegan, Kuminga and Nique as your theoretical third, second and fourth option respectively? That would mean your number one option has to be a point guard or center. Or is Nique going to get some reps at point guard after the deadline. Part of me wants to see how the draft shakes out before buying unless it’s a sweetheart deal

I'm not sure we're in a position to start assigning anyone to permanent roles. We're just looking for talent right now or at least we should be. Anyone who plays hard and has NBA level skills should be in play. One big problem I see right now is that we are seriously undersized at every position (in terms of height, strength, and length) so having two largish wings who can both guard SFs and PFs would already be a major upgrade to our potential defensive ceiling even if Kuminga and/or Keegan regress as scorers (and I don't think they will).

Kuminga is 23 just take that chance if he hits he's gonna be a better scorer than Keegan and should be a good defender, Nique shouldn’t even be penciled in as a starter at this point. Get talent and figure all that out later we don’t have talent and Kuminga is talented with potential

Any of the top 6 can fit with Keegan/kuminga.. if we draft Ament or Wilson then go with a wing lineup of Keegan, Kuminga, one of them, a center and a veteran PG. you draft brown and he just slides in as a pg if we draft Peterson, AJ, or Boozer it’s the same scenario as Ament/Wilson

We should not be sitting around not collecting talent

I think the 1st was a here you have to go trade buddy or Moody, take this 1st so you can use it down the later for another upgrade.

Now that we are passed that point, my offer is Monk/Saric or Demar. Take it or leave it. Or good luck shopping Kuminga when nobody else was interested this summer.

I get the concept on their end over the summer. Kings are dumb enough that the offer will still be there come December, and by doing that we can keep both Buddy/Moody. I could see both points of view.

Hindsight its looking awful. Will Richard could have easily replaced Buddy (hes playing more minutes than him), Gary Payton Jr is playing 12mpg but probably deserves more. They would have been fine honestly moving Buddy including a few 2nds.

Post/Horford
Dray
Jimmy/Richard
Moody/Podz/GPII
Steph/Monk

Right now they could be looking at attaching Moody + 1st or 2nds for someone like Toppin or Naji Marshall.

The Warriors need to maximize their Steph window. Sabonis is the only tradable player the kings have that would be a serious upgrade. That’s the issue with a Kuminga trade at this point. I’d imagine the Warriors would rather flip Kuminga and - few firsts for a swing
