For Domas? Cuts his salary in half in a worst case. Why not?
Not really. The Warriors can't absorb any salary, so they have to send the same amount back (in this proposal, Moody and Hield to fill things out). We'd save nothing this year. We'd save about $5M next year. We would save about $35M two years down the road in what would be the final year of Sabonis' contract, but that would be mitigated by any money we used to re-sign Kuminga.

Right. If we're dealing for Kuminga he should be looked at as a talent addition rather than as salary savings. I also don't love the idea of using our one big tradeable asset to do it -- the hope there was that we could move out a lower value vet that we may have trouble moving anywhere else since GS is so all-in on building around Curry. A Sabonis to GS deal does potentially earn us some good karma since Sabonis gets to stay closer to home (which I suppose we shouldn't care about if we're "all business" but I still do). We probably are too early in this process to be worrying about fit in any case-- we just need talent, period. Getting Boozer or Wilson in the draft would be ideal but the odds of that are small enough that it shouldn't be the reason we don't make other trades.

But I don't know.... there's a lot to think about anyway, a lot of different ways this could go. I was hoping we could find a way to make a Sabonis for Okongwu and pieces trade work since Atlanta already knows they're getting that New Orleans pick (likely top 5) and they don't seem all that committed to Okongwu as part of their core. Porzingis works as the salary filler there and he's expiring but Atlanta may still think of him as a guy they want to keep. Then there's other young big guys who might be worth targeting to give us some of what we'd be losing in Sabonis -- Yves Missi on the Pels, Thomas Sorber on OKC, any of the young bigs on Phoenix. All in all I just think we need a fresh start here and some lowered expectations for awhile so that a new group can form their own identity.
