Walking in C-Webbs Footsteps (Jason Thompson's Blog)

What’s up Kings fans!

It was a big sports weekend with the Super Bowl on Sunday. My prediction was almost right! That might have been one of the greatest Super Bowls ever with Ben Roethlisberger and Santonio Holmes coming out on top at the end. Larry Fitzgerald showed us he’s on pace to become a Hall of Famer, if he keeps doing what he’s doing. I feel his pain though. He’s worked so hard to get established in the League. In college, I remember being so close to getting to the NCAA Tournament. Being from a small conference, the only way you can get to the NCAA Tournament is to win the conference championship. Two out of four years, I went to the conference tournament but fell short. Being short of a championship hurts, but it pushes you to work even harder so you can strive to have that feeling in the future....(read more)

Big shoes to fill, indeed. With hard work Jason can be an excellent player. My favourite King! Would be nice if he did well tonight.

I’m trying to achieve his status and earn the respect he had from his teammates, the city and other opponents.

Funny that we compared him to C-Webb a while back, and now he's doing the same himself. On top of that he said he wore a C-Webb jersey and wants to emulate him. Yes, the planets and stars are aligning. Crossing fingers that he doesn't get traded away.

I know sports is a business, but I hope Jason stays around. I like this kid, and want to see what he can do, given time.

JT is not as much a natural talent as CWEBB. But he has a good frame & is slightly taller than Cwebb even. He has probably a better work ethic then webber at the same age.

I hope that they can become friends and Cwebb can show him some of his court vision and passing. If we are to go back to running the Princeton offense at some point, we would need a dominating big that can pass well. I think JT will be an all star one day.

Thompson almost seems too much of a good guy. The Kings need some mean in their team. If he even gets in the league of being as good as Chris Webber, I would be very happy with him. He has great potential, and with good coaching I think h can become an all star.

I hope we keep Jason for a long time. He has really proved the doubters wrong when we picked him 12th. He's been one of the very few bright spots this year.

Not only am I excited about this kid's future on the court, but I am excited about his future off the court as well.

He represents himself well and with that - represents this team and city well too.

Dude seems to always have a chip on his shoulder though, not in a bad mopey way but in a 'I'm using this to motivate myself' kind of way. I remember first he wanted to prove the draft doubters wrong, then he wanted to prove the allstar game snubbers wrong..

...He's not mean, but he seems like the type who uses negative things to give himself an edge on the court.

And if he gets as good as Webb I think we'll all be very happy with him ;)

There was a game where he did a jumper that looked EXACTLY like Chris's jumper. Thought I was watching C-Webb for a minute.

Hope he contiues to get better.

Thompson isnt a dominant figure on the floor like Chris, he has the skills to be very effective in this league and for us though...like a Dale/Antonio Davis type of player, like I've been saying all along...and that's fine with me!

Just to let people know, Thompson is on the front page of NBA.com beside Kobe as the image for "Mid-season report card".

I was surprised to see him there, but it's great to see him getting noticed. There is nothing much written about him in the actual grades, but still nice to see him getting some love.

My good sir, I'm going to have to disagree with you. Please observe Exhibit A:

“They’re my enemies,” Thompson said of competing against the League’s superstars. “Obviously there are some guys I’ve grown up watching over the years, but I know they have different colored jerseys and I have to go right at them.”

The kid has a mean streak and plays with more fire than the rest of the squad combined. Only a matter of time before he becomes the team's emotional leader.

Yeah I'll take it that he isn't as mellow as I thought, but the Kings are still the least intimidating team in the league.

I think that will change once Miller is gone. He's a red carpet in the lane. I can barely stand to watch him play against the Spurs because Tony Parker makes Brad look like a statue.
