Story Highlights
Less than 24 hours after Honda Center officials set up a priority waiting list, fan response is swelling.

"I think it's a great thing for Orange County," said Block, 70, a senior vice president for a bank. "We used to have season seats to the Lakers, but it just became too far to drive. "Putting aside that an Orange County team may not be the best at first, it will be a great place to go catch the Lakers, the Clippers and other (NBA) teams without having to drive to L.A.," he said."

No one ever claimed they wouldn't start off strong. Let's see how things are after the honeymoon is over though. Interest will wane fast. Especially if they aren't a playoff team.

Royals Games=Where lazy Laker fans go because thirty miles is too far.

If you aren't against the move, what could you possibly find terrible about it?
The fact that he's talking about how it's great to have a team in Anaheim so they don't have to drive thirty miles to catch a Lakers game(F the Lakers!). Did you not read the quote? Judging by your first comment, I don't think you understood what was said, and I'm not trying to be mean or trying to be a smart a** ;)

Heh, the Anaheim enthusiasm just overwhelms me. Entirely apart form everything else, choosing Anaheim over the other suitors just seems like a monumentaly bad idea by the Maloofs, and yet they seem committed to this one path. Maybe the worst path they could have chosen.

Yeah I read the quote but it just wasn't exactly clear to me what you were referring to as being terrible. I thought maybe you were saying it was terrible that they had 500 people on a list.

I know. Louisvile would have been so much better. They woulda killed it in Louisville. They must really be in dire straights financially and what Sam Sam is offering (50 mil for "transition costs" that can be spent however they choose-- ie the Palms). That, or they are mezmerized by LA and want to bolster their celebrity, thinking it will lead to other business opportunities, and they could be right.

I agree wholeheartedly Hammer. I was personally hoping that if they do move, Louisville would be the destination... they would have been adored the same way they have been in Sacramento.

LOL I remember back in 05 and 06 when the season ticket wait list easily was like 6 or 7 times longer than that atleast. These anaheim fans are pathetic. They cant even get more than 500 people interested? That's a friggin joke.

We have an enthusiastic fan fase, with a city council who couldn't care less about the team. Anaheim has an enthusiastic city council, and a fan base that couldn't care less about the team. Can we trade???????

Really? they want a team over there so they dont have to drive so far to watch the lakers and other nba teams play? $%$#
It's a messed up motive indeed...

OTOH, paying fans in a seat are paying fans in a seat. Doesn't make it right, but money talks and b.s. walks.

500 ought to do it. I watched the Anaheim City Council meeting and one speaker had something that indicated he was number 350 meaning there was a waiting list in line for a long time just in case an NBA team arrived.

Who cares?

And what you are saying is that the arena was sold out. I had to wait a couple years to get my season tickets. 500 should be very cozy in a nice old arena. If you seat them behind the TV announcers, it might appear to be even more than 500. Hope walk ups are high.

Having actually read the article, I admit that the OC people don't come off as dickish as I had thought. I don't get a feeling of "so what" from that article, but more like mild optimism...

The team's relocation hasn't even been completed. I'm surprised they have 500 already this early.

I still think people here in Sac are missing the point of this move. This isn't about the Maloofs moving the team to Anaheim; it's that the Maloofs have lost control of their finances, and this is their only shot at staying in the game. They need Samueli more than they need Sacramento, given that the relocation costs are reasonable.

Stern is disgusted with Sacramento, and the Maloofs know what the relocation fees will be: $50M. That's covered now. They didn't arrive at that figure randomly.

This deal is now so iron-clad that there's no way it comes apart. The Maloofs don't have $50M? Heh -- now they do. The Maloofs don't have the $77M for Sac? Well, go back and read the terms of the loan; it allows for the City to take the arena over in the event the "prior arena owners", as the contract calls them, cannot pay. Besides, we fell into second place on the loans.

There's an answer for EVERYTHING. And there's no chance to change these things now.

It's nice to see the #HereWeBuild movement, but where were they 8 years ago?

I think the best thing to do is, as fans, who are we going to root for next? No one? Now, I'm not one of the people who sent $75,000 over a period of 12 years to the Kings -- thank goodness. I'm not sure I can ever know what those people feel. But, you know, that's an entire university education for a kid or a grandkid. You really don't know anyone who needed that $75k more? Yeah, I'd be upset, especially when I know I could have put that money to better use.

I've gone on a tangent with my response. Sorry. Yeah, I'm this talkative and profane when you meet me. Just wanted to get it off my chest, though. People resent this, but the Maloofs are doing this because this is the ONLY CHANCE they have to keep their team. If the relo turns out to be $100M, they'll abandon the franchise. It wouldn't be worth it to them. Samueli won't be interested in buy the team and keep them in Sac; he'll go away completely.

It's Anaheim or contraction. If the relocation to Anaheim costs $100M, the relocation to SJ would cost the same -- and Ellison would go away. There's no arena in Seattle. There's no interest in KC. Louisville is too small. Omaha is too small. What else is there?

I apologize for going on like this. I'm sure this is it for me today.

I think you should be very careful in stating things as facts when they are not known. I mean the simple message from Bob Cook, minority partner that there is a 20% chance they will stay causes problems with your note.

They look at this as if they are relocating the Washington Generals to Anaheim and not an NBA team. Just the designated loser team to watch the Lakers or headline teams play against. The Maloofs are getting exactly what they deserve in this move.

I'm trying to recall, but back in 1985 the season ticket wait list around the time it was announced they were coming from Kansas City was somewhere in the 8,000 to 9,000 range. By the time they started playing it was around 10,000 and they had to hold some for single game sales.

They were probably ROOTING and giving their blood, sweat and tears as fans in support of the TEAM! 8 years ago we were worrying about the Lakers...not an arena...that's the fault of the Maloofs and the city of Sacramento for not starting the arena efforts while the coals were red hot!

You know, I've thought several times lately that there very well could be a background scenario here for the Maloofs - make this move to Anaheim, a poor choice as you point out, and it will be all the easier down the road to get the OK from the league and owners to transfer the Maloof franchise to Las Vegas.

It doesn't seem logical that the above logic would have much to do with this Anaheim move but the thought sticks with me anyway. I must keep my composure, "I love the Maloofs", "I love the Maloofs", "I love the Maloofs". There, I feel better now.

Except they would be stuck at the Honda center for 10 years. If they wanted to move between years 11-15 it will cost them another $20 million and they still have to pay off the $75 million loan from anahiem.

They have had a list for 20 years. If Sacramento got a new arena I guarantee they would have increased season tickets holders by 1000 or more the first day.
The Honda Center isn't even 20 years old yet.

The 500+ is a less than 24 hrs wait list for a team that HAS NOT even filed or announced they will move to the city.
