In the second round, you will be voting on the following matchups:

1. Löwenherz v. 9. Turgenev
2. Capt. Factorial v. 7. Spike
3. hrdboild v. 6. Mr. S£im Citrus
4. VF21 v. 5. pdxKingsFan

You vote for one favorite PER PAIR as shown in the poll above. In this poll, you CAN vote for yourself. :) Movie lists with links to their write-ups are also posted below.

REMINDER: Because of the way this poll will have to be arranged, you will be required to make multiple votes. The vote will have to be public so I can keep track of whether anyone makes a double-vote. Pay attention to whom you are voting for: because of the way the multiple vote factors in, it’s possible to accidentally vote for both parties in a given matchup. I am including this in the OP with enough advanced notice so that everybody will be aware of what could happen. If, for some reason, you do happen to accidentally vote for both parties in a matchup, PM me before the voting deadline to advise me of the mistake and let me know whom you meant to vote for, and I will correct your vote. Any double votes I have not been advised of by the voting deadline will be considered invalid, and not counted.

The last poll went a bit long, so I'm going to cap this one at 5 days and see how it goes. I think all the votes came in quicker than that last time.

Hate to say it, but I’m going mostly underdogs in this one. Even though Cap’s list is a monument of legendary classics, Spike has the most albums I was targeting of any other list.

Hrdboild’s musical tastes seem to be the closest to my own, but Slim was my top ranked list overall.

Pet Sounds and Nirvana Unplugged are enough to get my vote for PDX

Quite a few hard choices in here for me and one I am still on the fence about. Most of the pairings are close to how I ranked them so there aren't any obvious picks.

well ok, at the end of the day I wound up giving hrdboild the slight edge over Slim probably because the whole PMing for a month or two effect. I really thought both lists were strong and each had a few albums I would not mind having.

I had VF ranked really high but obviously not going to vote against myself and Spike was my favorite not-mine but Capt. was ranked quite highly as well.

I can live with that, especially since you were #1 in my rankings. Congrats. :)

Really? wow/thanks. kind of humbled to make it beyond one round since I wouldn't normally get given any kind of music choice duties. I did make a decision to not exclude acts I felt were too mainstream which I had hoped would turn folks on to my not-mainstream picks in the back end. I'm glad you liked Mr. McPherson.

Anyway, I feel like its all gravy from here on out. Thanks VF (and everyone else who enjoyed my list).

Okay well I missed the vote here but I might as well post my comments anyway for all the people who participated.

@Löwenherz's list might as well be my album collection. I have 7 of the first 10 albums you picked and even for the other 3 albums I don't own, I have different albums by the same bands. (well, technically I don't own any Gorillaz albums but have Blur's self-titled album and I'm going to call that close enough for these purposes :) ). I bought the Mazzy Star and Algiers albums after you picked them. Even the soundtracks are all stuff I would listen to. And you've got OK Computer of course which is probably my favorite album of all time (I'll have to discuss it with myself later and confirm but it's way way up there). So if the object here is to find the list that conforms best to music I already listen to, this is it in a landslide. I already talked about @Turgenev in the first round thread. You've got a lot of stuff on here that was new to me but it's all stuff I could get into. I just listened to the Solange album and it really surprised me! I heard some of her early music and didn't like it that much but this was really really good. I also just stumbled across that Solesides album which I overlooked before. Really nice pick! I came very close to adding a Blackalicious album to my list. This is kindof like the previous round where it was Padrino vs. Turgenev. In both cases I just wanted to created a mashup of both album lists and make that my pick. Which is to say it's a lot harder picking these than I thought it would be. I have to give the edge to OK Computer though. I could get a lot of mileage out of that one album alone and it's cheekier younger sibling Kid A.

@Capt. Factorial's list is a little like @Warhawk 's in that it dances all around some of my favorite albums without ever quite landing on one. Well, actually you do have Ten and Fashion Nugget on there so that probably should count as two direct hits. I really wanted to pick something from Pearl Jam because I adore Mike McCready's lead guitar tone. I was trying to decide between Vs. or Live on Two Legs and I briefly considered the one Mad Season album so I could get Mike and Layne together but in the end I passed up all of them. Plea From a Cat Named Virtue by the Weakerthans is a fantastic song that I had completely forgotten about! I really liked the Anton Barbeau album, I'll have to listen to more of his stuff. I like that you've selected a lot of albums which are a bit left of center lyrically. Not left in a political context, just with topics and word choices that aren't typical of most popular music. I'm only vaguely familiar with Dire Straits -- I know the songs that everyone knows. I really enjoy how Knopfler plays the guitar -- that slow burn emotional stuff is how I try to play and the Brothers in Arms song was exactly the kind of song that really gets me excited about music. You've also got something on your list that nobody else has included with the 5 bonus picks of all classical music which now that I think about it, could be just the right mood for this hypothetical deserted island existence. I already talked about @Spike's list and I don't have much to add other than I didn't even mention Jimi Hendrix or Queen last time. What's wrong with me? If my deserted island includes an amp and a flying V than I don't think it gets much better than this for jamming out. I would have voted for Capt here though mostly because I'm more of a Pearl Jam and Zeppelin guy than Soundgarden and KISS. Also his ancillary picks are a little more my style and I'm predictably falling into a pattern of liking music that's similar to music that I already like.

I'll skip over the me vs. Slim match-up other than to briefly lament that by some cruel twist of fate Stevie is up against himself. That just doesn't seem fair. I was re-watching (movie I can't mention by name right now because there's a movie draft going on) recently -- well, it may have been 7 or 8 years ago. Recent becomes a relative term once you pass 35 --- and I told my co-workers that I thought Chow Yun Fat was our generation's greatest actor. He can do anything! He can do action, comedy, drama, romance. Sometimes all in the same movie. He's the only living actor who I would favorably compare to Cary Grant. Which naturally brought up the question, who is the greatest musician alive? I took a day to think about it but the only person who made sense was Stevie Wonder.

Oh man, and this @VF21 vs @pdxKingsFan matchup is killer! This is why I just stopped voting in the last movie draft. It's too hard! It's tough to find much to complain about in VF21's list -- it's just a solid sampling of some of the best songwriting and musicianship of the last 50+ years. Huey Lewis, Cream, and Santana back to back to back in the early teens are my favorite albums here but I like the folksy early rock theme in general. I haven't really listened to Garth Brooks or Shania Twain but I appreciate that they're good at what they do. Speaking of, I finally checked out that Brad Paisley album @Warhawk and I was pleasantly surprised! And I recently learned that Jim Croce is one of my cousins' favorite musical artist and thanks to VF 21 I actually could keep up a bit in that conversation! I'm still leaning slightly in favor of pdx here though because of Pet Sounds and Revolver. I just watched a documentary about The Clash on Netflix too so I'm a bit of a nascent fan of that band now. And sometimes I'm just in the mood for some garbled messy guitar tone and a bloke who sings out of key.

"The Future is Unwritten" -- I guess it was more about Joe Strummer than The Clash itself, but they covered that period too. I may be wrong about it being on Netflix too. It was on one of the streaming services, I rarely remember which one I've watched something on anymore only that it was on something!
