Voisin says Kings coaching staff complete

Meh...I guess its a good staff, I like big Truck Robinson though. I just wish that we could have at least Brian Gates or Terry Porter, but I shouldn't be greedy.

The Truck is my hero!

Er...the first two are fine for differeing reasons, and I have no problem with Truck as a concept. Tough player that could probably still beat the heck out of our weenie boys. But has he ever coached before? I checked his wikipedia page and there is not a peep about anything after his playeing days. Did Westphal just hire a friend from back in the day (the day being the 70s) who has been out of the game for 30 years and never coached anywhere at any level?

Digging around a bit, I can't find any sign that Truck's been involved in coaching, either. Nothing but references to "former NBA player."

Odd...

Here's a nice Houston radio interview with Elie from a few weeks back....

Elie Interview

Some good stuff in there. I think he'll be a great influence on the team.

Not exactly. There were rumors they had talked to him, nothing more...

at least mario elie got hired. Alot of us wanted him as head coach over the mussman!

I agree, I am very excited to have Ellie on the staff. A couple of years ago he was a hot up and comer and could be a future head coach. A high, IQ winner who should be a good defensive coach. I like him better than anyone Theus had on his staff.

I liked the idea of bringing him in to, but I do have some questions about what exactly happened there to his career. He went from hot commodity with all the classic winning roleplayer/leader markers of a future head coach to just falling off the map. I'm a bit curious what happened -- was he unprepared? Bad interviewer? Not bright? Too abrasive? Just odd the way he disappeared from conversations so suddenly there.

I believe I read somewhere that Terry Porter took himself off the market for any jobs this upcoming season. Said he was sitting this season out.

i like mario elie as an assistant coach
jim eyen gives that experience
truck robinson.. havent heard of him no coaching experience.. has nba exp and can probably teach our bigs along side SaR

question is who is responsible for our defensive strategy and schemes?

Yeah, it's a fair question. It may be as simple as the fact that the Mavs aren't as good anymore. Whether it's fair or not, it's usually assistants off of the top team's that are considered hot commodities. If the Celtics suddenly fell back to the 7-8 seed for two straight seasons, Thib would probably get less consideration for a HC gig too.

according to sports illustrated today, robinson doesn't have any coaching experience, but has spent last season as a scout for "washington." i am assuming that means the wizards and not, like, the redskins.

more worrisome however is that eyen's last few years has been on the clippers' bench.

also, can someone correct me on if it's mario elie like "eli (manning)" or like "elly"?

Elie, like in Kelly :)

Brick, I spoke to one of my best friends who is a die hard Warriors fan. According to him, Ellie was the heir apparent to Nelson a few years back in GS, which is when we interviewed him and he was a hot commodity. Apparently, once Keith Smart came in, he took over the spot light and was promoted to lead assistant over Ellie. After that, Ellie moved to Dallas' staff and has been trying to rebuild his reputation. Take that for what it's worth.
