Allow me to explain.
Vivek is designated the managing partner / general manager.
Pete is designated VP / Director of Scouting and Analytics.
Value becomes VP / Director of Coach and Personnel.
Here's my reasoning: we can neither keep Pete as GM, nor can we fire him.
Not being able to keep him should be obvious - his reputation is shot and he's bad at PR. He also may or may not have burned some bridges with several NBA agents and possibly coaches. He can't be our guy.
But can he just be fired? I'm not sure. My biggest problem with the idea of just dumping PDA is that it completely uproots any link from management to players and coaches. Every player on this roster other than DMC and JT was acquired by Pete, and Pete worked closely with Karl in Denver. In other words, this is his team, for better or worse.
It's the third year under Vivek. He's hired three head coaches and two "basketball advisors," and his first GM is on life support. Pretty much every player on the roster who was here initially is gone, and a good chunk of the coaching and front office staff has been pushed out as well. More turnover means more suspicion. It's time for Vivek to own up to this and buckle down, because we have about two months to look like a serious franchise or its Dark Ages 3.0 for the Kings. No one will come here because there will be a perception of absolutely zero job security.
I think Vivek taking front and center could be an out. He's been here since Day 1 so he owns it all. It's not a great solution but I think it might be better than promoting Vlade above his pay grade and hoping he can assemble enough NBA-level talent to run a front office under the most fire-happy owner in the NBA.
