Tyrekes Arrest video

Im just glad he didn't get hurt or cause a serious accident.

A real idiot for doing this. But hopefully he's learnt his lesson.

Statement from Joe and Gavin Maloof

http://www.nba.com/kings/news/press_release_073010.html

Tyreke Evans has been spoken to about this situation at all levels of our organization. We have emphasized the seriousness of the charge and that we have a zero tolerance for conduct of this sort from our players. Tyreke has apologized and has agreed to all terms of the penalties and fines the court has imposed. He has been in full cooperation with the California Highway Patrol throughout the process, and will engage in 80 hours of volunteer work, including an assistance to the CHP’s driver safety program. He has apologized to the organization, our fans, and community, and has assured us that this will not happen again. We feel he has learned an extremely valuable lesson and we consider the case closed.

My question is what was the point or the reason, the CHP had to release this video to the public. I can understand if this was the day of or the night of the event; but some 60 plus days after the fact? Really? Seriously?

If this were you or I, our video would have been burned or boxed up. There is no reason to embarrass this kid, a good kid especially if he has learned his lesson.

I like the part where the guy with the dogs is about to stand and watch until the CHP pulls out his gun and then decided it might be good for him to back off.

Unless the video in question was to be used in a trial as evidence then it was available to the public. It was indicated that LE had "other" possible charges pending in the incident but ultimately did not have sufficient evidence to pursue them - including one or more felonies. While the CHP could hold their video back (actually it belongs to the people of California) the news media (or some in the media) were no doubt asking for its release.

Yep, he was speeding big time. Yep, he got caught, and has already received his sentencing. While I agree with everyone who says it was a stupid thing to do, I think it's something everyone who has ever owned a fast car has done at some point in time. My 68 Camaro had a blue-printed 327 in it and there's a really straight part of I-80 coming back from Auburn that used to see very little traffic. I put my foot into it and wasn't paying any attention to the speedometer until I noticed it was pegged... it was exhilarting, it was wrong and it was stupid. But I didn't realize any of that until afterwards.

I think Tyreke has learned his lesson and I just hope the media lets it go.

Yeah, I think it's one of those "we've all done it" and "thankfully I didn't get caught" kind of things. Youth and horsepower tends to have that effect on people. I remember a time with my Mustang, a few friends, and an open stretch of I-5 where I probably could have been arrested. Live and learn.

I am just glad a Jay Williams thing didn't happen. How horrible would that have been if he was horribly inquired?

That was excessive. His hands were out and the windows were down. The cop should have holstered it.

Live, learn, forget.

He was compliant, apologized, and thankfully didn't hurt anybody. Some of those sacbee comments are repulsive, but that is why I stopped reading after the first two comments.

Seriously. Seems as if some of those people want Tyreke to be given the death penaltly.
Another person compared this to Gilbert Arenas' gun controversy and said Tyreke should be banned from the NBA. WTF is up with these people?

I thought they didn't allow peace officers to carry guns in the UK.

Edit: Or does your draw mean something other than brandished?

No they don't carry guns over here, tasers are on the rise though!

you would never get ushered out of a car like that here, unless you'd just killed someone of course.

Indeed...we all were kids, and all wanted to 'go fast' in the words of Ricky Bobby. But its when you think you're impervious that you get caught, and that's what happened to Tyreke. He's VERY lucky no one was hurt or killed because of his recklessness, thank God! Tyreke's actions from this point on will speak louder than his soft spoken words of apology.

Yea, hey Tyreke. That particular stretch of road is RIGHT NEXT TO THE CHP OFFICE! There is even a sign on the road telling you that. Get a driver!!

You live in a country without America's peculiar gun fetish however. The cops in the UK can generally assume the person they stop is rarely going to have a firearm. In America its just an arms race and the cop draws before he gets drawed upon.

Anyone saying that that was excessive by the police is wrong. Even without tinted windows they'd be drawing the guns. He was driving like a maniac for like 10+ minutes and then rolls into a residential area and then to a school with people around.

Well that last part I would think would be a reason not to escalate things with guns? Not as if he squealed into the parking lot. In fact the driving was mostly fine once he got off the freeways (besides rolling through one stop sign which is apparently just going to be overlooked given the rest of this. I think the guns were mostly because of the tint and corresponding risk to the officer.

I have no problem with people racing and speeding.. just do it on an empty road. Sucks he got caught though.

Exactly.. they have no idea that this is Tyreke driving around having fun. So yeah.. It could be someone that just killed his family and is going to the school to get the last few kids in the family... or some other weird reason. Police have to be careful.. scary job I'd never want.

I think Tyreke stopped at Robla Community Park, which has a full court basketball court. I guess he was going to play there? Do Kings have a history of playing at that park?
