Just when I was on the verge of considering optimism...

After everything is said and done, after all of the good vibes from the home stand, after all of the positive feelings from the start of the road trip, when it's all over and done with, we finish 1-3. We're now 6-8 on the road, and only 1-7 on the road against winning teams.

It ain't looking good for the Champ-eens.

Well So what...

Yeah we lost...

I didn't think we would go 3-1 on this road trrip. In fact I would have been happy with a Split.

They Tanked the Indy game, and Gave the Detroit game away.

This was a winable game as well.

What I am thrilled with was Nicole showing a nasty streak in her and Just taking the game into her hands. I think that is something that will pay dividend down the line. It took forever but she did it. DeMya was fairly dominant. Erin Looked like she had a spring in her step. Bekkah was fierce.

What we are playing for is Play-off position. Who cares if we can't beat Eastern teams at this point. Should we get that far we will only have to face one of them.

Like I said before. The homestand is important. We have 3 games at home and a road run to SASS in in the mix. Not to mention the last few games are against Western opponets.

We may have Pissed away the Indy and Detroit games, but I really Like what I saw in this game. Hell How many teams played Indy and Detroit in a Back to Back? And how well did they fair?

I think we may be better off than we know.

I need to think thru the rest of the game... I am gonna go gamble for a while

Went over to JoeyB's, a good turn out. Got to chat with MamaB. for a few, that was cool. Found out that JoeyB's will be closing next week...too bad it was a great place to hang out & they treated us well. I asked them to switch over to NBA TV & we caught the SKY & LYNX game.
As for our team...well they battled, it's tough on the road. We will have to learn to win very soon...because other teams are hungry for that title.
I agree bright spots on Powelle & Erin is our savior. Kara's MIA...Brunson & DeMaya are really playing hard. We must have our home games, & the road is still a mystery. Well lets hope some home cooking will bring us back in the win column.

I still feel pretty good about what is going on. This was a brutal road trip and they played the three best teams in the East on the road and lost. Big deal. They left home in second place, they come home in second place. Seven games left. I expect 5-2 or 6-1, to go into the playoffs with a little momentum.

There are some things that need to be worked on:

1. Coach is going to have to make up his mind at PF. Is it Buchler, Walker or Brunson.

2. Yo has to get better. If she is not healthy, IT IS OVER.

3. Nikki P must get hot now.

4. The team defense is soft and alot of that has to do with Yo and her lack of intensity. Hopefully she can get that back as we head into the postseason.

5. Where is Ticha???? How many minutes did she play tonight? 23. One shot, one rebound, one assist. What is going on there? Lawson played 28, Haynie played 21. That is completely unacceptable. She made 5 baskets, and only had 8 assists on the entire road trip.

2, 4 and 5 is the key to our success. It is time for Griffith and Penechiero the veterans to look themselves in the mirror and lead this team. Because if they don't, nobody else will.

This might be opening a can of Worms... But

Ticha's disappearance was rather noticeable.

I was actually rather pleased at how Kara ran the point. I was very surprised at how many minutes Kim Smith got. As much as I like her personally, she didn't really impress. Perhaps the fact that she was a shooter forced Conn to do different things.

I think something became apparent tonight.

I think there is a changing of the guard.
One that many have been reluctant to face.
Including Whiz.
Yo is laboring. That is a fact. We have been so use to her being a work horse that we forget, she is Laboring.

Ticha is 2 dimensional. She is fantastic at what she does, but her inability to score is costing her playing time. When we need points, she can't be on the floor. It is unfortunate because she is the floor general.

I think what we saw at the end of this game is the future of the franchise. And we should be very pleased with it. I think we have been going thru an identity crisis.

Nicole defers to Yo and Ticha. As she should. DeMya's absence has caused a bit of instability in the post. Yo is the emotional leader, but the reality is DeMya is the Post Stud now. So It is my opinion that we will need to see leadership come from Kara, Nicole and DeMya. And Yo and Ticha my need to defer to/encourage them.

This is not to say that they should be put out to pasture. No one is questioning their impact on the game. That is not the case. But I do believe that the younger players have so much respect for them that they defer when they should take advantage of their opportunities. Yo and Ticha need to play a greater role as teachers, and mentors. More than they already have.

Tonight Nicole showed us she could shoot us back into a ball game. That is something I think we have all been waiting for her to show us. Bekkah is putting the Offense with the Defense. Erin is doing her thing. DeMya is Getting really good. She wont have her speed back til next year, but the moves and the game is there. And it is getting more and more consistent. Kara isn't shooting the ball... Which totally frustrates, but I still think she is damn near the smartest person on the floor. And her ability to score, changes defenses.

I think Whiz needs to feel more comfortable about going to that line up. When Ticha drives to the basket and tries to score. She is fine. When we gridlock he can't wait til we are 15 points down to change.

We will beat a lesser opponent, but against the elite teams, like the ones that are coming up, we will get hurt. I love that our team is unselfish, but it is crunch time and Shooter need to be shooter. And scorers need to be scorers.

And yes I know...
The WHITE LINE NEEDS TO BE THE WHITE LINE.

What? JoeyB's is closing down for good? Say it ain't so! Downtown and midtown SAC needs more sports bar venues! It hasn't been the same since America Live closed down in 1996! :(

Geezus....JoeyB's is closing?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I'm really sorry to hear that, they really really did treat us well there.

I was going to try to stop by but I had to be somewhere at 6:30 and by the time I left the office it was half time. Sorry to have missed everyone, and especially sorry that MamaB's mojo wasn't even enough to stop the JoeyB's road game curse.

I was amazed at how similar all three of these losses were. I mean c'mon. I'll join in celebrating Nicole's waking up and realizing she was a scorer. I was trying to figure out who was on the floor in the 4th during the comeback - it took me a while to realize that Kara was running point. I too was perplexed re: why Smith got so many minutes in crunch time. CT wanted us to steal that game back and we couldn't do it. Much in the same way that Detroit game went, when they got the score down to something remotely do-able with a good chunk of clock to do something with it, they would just flat out do something dumb with the ball...more than once! Jason Ross said they'd probably look back on the two possessions they wasted on two turnovers or bad decisions by the Sun - where they returned the favor to the Sun and let them run more clock off and finally figure out how to score.

Yeah Joey.B's will stop serving food this week & drinks next week.
Something with the owner owning two buisness, one in Southern Ca.
The staff seemed upset as well. It will be hard to replace. America Live...now that was a fun place!

I agree we need Yo...I failed to bring her up in my post & that hurts. We need her no doubt. I'd like to find a way to give Erin more crunch time minutes, but we also need the rebounding inside. Sunday will not be easy.
Come on Monarchs...it's time to step up!

I don't know if Nicole, Kara and DeMya are quite ready for that this season. There are only seven games left, and to have a changing of the guard now, would be very drastic. Next year? Fo'sho. I think the Monarchs are tied to the hip with Yo and Ticha in '06, and the team will only go as far as those two will take them. I am hoping when the post season begins, something kicks in and jump starts their energy, because right now it is very low.

Yeah, sorry to disappoint on the mojo. Maybe it's combined mojo and we were just missing the MBF... cause ya know... when NBH and I were chatting, the Monarchs started making their comeback from the dead. Joey B's seemed like a nice spot though, other than the fact that they didn't have what I ordered... and they didn't tell me that until the 3rd quarter was almost over! It was good chatting with NBH! And it was a good game to watch for the first and fourth quarters.

The next stretch of games doesn't look to get any easier. Detroit looked scary good last week, and Houston is always dangerous! Hopefully they can get back on track soon. I don't want to see them stumble into the playoffs.
