[Game] Trailblazers @ Kings - 1/7/14 - 7 p.m. PST

You seriously don't watch the game do you? Lillard scored a ton off of players other than IT, either when IT was out of the game, or when they were getting back on fast break situations and there were mismatches.

He scored like 10 points on other people. which leaves 31 to when he was guarded by Isaiah.

and what in the hell is Isaiah doing at 1:15? literally standing in the lane guarding nobody!

There's a clear lack of rim protection in Kings defense. IT decided to guard the paint and somehow you're not happy...:p

There was already 3 Kings in the paint on D, and only 2 Blazers. i have no idea why Isaiah thought there should also be a 4th Kings player back in the paint while Lillard is out there by himself

I'm sorry, but I think you need to re-watch the video. In no way am I a Thomas advocate for his defensive play this year, but out of the 13 shots Lillard made last night, I count 5 of them against Thomas (three 2-pointers and two 3-pointers = 12 points). The remaining 8 were against other defenders (three 2-pointers and five 3-pointers = 21 points). As far as free throws go, it only showed how he got six of his eight free throw attempts. The first one was when Lillard blew by Thomas and Thornton fouled him for an And-1 (IT's fault +1 point to the tally). The second time, Thomas was not guarding Lillard and Cousins fouled him in the lane (Not IT's fault). The third time was on that horrendous call by the referee that gave Lillard three shots at the end of the game. Even though Thomas gave up the 3 points, I would not fault him for those points. That was good defense and a terrible call by the referee. Again, they didn't show how he got his last two free throw attempts so I can’t comment on them.

So that puts IT at 13 points given up or 16 points if you want to be “that guy” while others gave up 23 points. I’m not sure why you only attributed 7 points to his teammates, but I find it curious.

Again, I’m not an IT fan boy. I think he is best suited as a sixth man, but give credit where credit is due. Thomas did a hell of a job defending Lillard last night. His defensive intensity definitely stood out. Now will he be able to stay motivated and continue that level of play on the defensive side? That remains to be seen.

Oh and at the 1:15 mark, that is Gay's fault. Thomas was guarding the lead man on the break. Gay should have picked him up.

I remember that play live. Thomas got into it with Gay a little bit because he didn't pick up Lillard like he should have.

Gay was closest to Lillard, but his man, Batum, was late as well. Thornton covered his man (can't see the number - really bad color combo on Blazers' jerseys), at least the moment video starts. And IT is just in the middle of nowhere. Maybe he was trailing Thornton's man before MT caught up with him, but you certainly can't say Gay screwed up - it's a combination of IT's slow reaction to get to his man and Gay deciding he prefers to cover Batum. Still not enough trust defensively.

I agree with you to a degree. It was sort of a chain reaction. Thornton was trailing his man on the break so Thomas slid over to protect the paint where he was making his cut into the lane. Then the Portland player backed out of the paint and went back to the perimeter. Gay was definitely in a position to take a step or two over to pickup the ballhandler, but he decided to wait for his man (Batum) instead who was one of the last men down the floor. I'm assuming he thought Thomas was near by otherwise he would have swung over to help, but Thomas was already in the process of helping on Thornton's man.

Oh come on. Your dislike of IT is really assuming gargantuan proportions. You can find a clip of any player on any night just standing if you really try hard enough.

Being critical is one thing. Being blindly myopic is another.

First, i do not dislike Isaiah, i even have his Jersey! i just don't like the role he is in. There is definitely more to like about his game than there is to critisize. it's just that his weaknesses are being exploited right now playing as a starter.

Second, I'm not the only one that pointed that play out so i don't think im being overly critical there. also i mentioned that i saw improved effort on IT's defense last night. i was just mainly pointing out the ridiculous exaggerations by Kingster that he likes to claim that Isaiah is responsible for no more than 4 pts per night by the man he is guarding

Ugh I still can't believe we passed up on Lillard
Imagine Lillard, Gay and Cousins
That's a playoff team right there

One thing I forgot to mention but I loved early in the first quarter was Cousins and Jason Thompson showing hard hedging on screens rather than just letting the PG go over freely. It seemed to work well numerous times (you can't do it all game it's fairly exhausting for Cuz in particular), it's good to see they were mixing it up on pick'n'roll D.
