Maybe it's just me but I hate to wade through those realGM things.
We end up with Drew Gooden and two first rounders for Artest? If that's the case, I'm thinking "get-er-done" as long as we get rid of Gooden as soon as humanly possible afterwards. I would never consider him as a valuable building-block for the future. Ever.

Let me think for a second...yes.
1. We have viable backups for Artest in Salmons and Garcia.
2. We get 2 first rounders for Artest. They may be later in the 1st round, but TWO!! (lets not forget that we picked up KMart @ #26)
3. Gooden addresses a pertinent need. A big with size that can rebound...need I say more? Okay I will. Gooden's 2 yr. contract does not hinder the rebuild process, and is precisely as long as Artest's contract if Artest decided to stay in Sac.
The only party that might complain would be NJ. They might think they could get more for Kidd, and they'd probably be right. They might not want to give Kidd to a conference rival either.

NJ doesn't do this.
And Gooden really doesn't do much for me. I'm not sure what his value would be to another team either. I still think we can pry David Lee from the Knicks, along with some combination of Balkman, Nate Robinson, their 08 pick and a KT for Malik Rose swap.

It's good for Mavs and Cavs. It hurts Nets severely.

We can avoid getting long-term contract with Artest, and can give more time with Salmons and Garcia, get two 1st picks, and finally get a solid PF. It's worthy, even though losing Artest.
After that deal our PFs counts five - Gooden, KT, Reef, Justin, Watkins(maybe waive?), even though I'm OK with that deal especially with the draft picks.
But I doubt it happens. It seriously hurts Nets.

We trade Artest? Where do we dump Kenny Thomas at? If this doesn't happen, NO DEAL. Let Dallas keep their 2nd round pick, let Cleveland keep their 2nd round pick anything after 25 is about as good as a 2nd rounder...and give me Artest.

I prefer a Bibby/KT for Marbury/Lee swap...I'd even include Garcia to get it done.
Ron should be INCLUDED in the team's future, with K$, Spencer and now Beno. Lee would give us that piece this current roster still needs and we can hopefully fill in the gaps with the next couple drafts and then FA.

If Artest is to be traded, I'd say KT should go first. We should get rid of those useless contracts first before we do a trade with Artest or just sign him back after we have salary space.
Maybe Watkins+KT+Douby can give us a big man and back-up PG from the bench and free the cap.

Well it is easy to say that, but there are a lot of unknowns and variables to consider. You can only count on the guys you have under contract. Once Artest opts out, things become murky. Murky enough to consider deals for Artest.
How much does Artest really prefer to play closer to where he grew up? Will he accept a reasonable contract offer to remain with a Kings team that is still in the throws of rebuilding? Does he care more about going all out for a big payday, and is there a team out there willing to take that sort of risk and make an offer Petrie feels he isn't willing to match? Would he take less cash or a lesser role on another team that is in the mix for a championship? Of course, some will add to the end of all of these questions "will he blow up again?", though I personally am not as worried about that as some have been.

Let me get this straight, Gooden as our solution at PF??? I'm not sure about that... For me it comes down to a mid and a late first round for Artest. If I were convinced that Petrie would trade-up w/ the two of the picks for a legit big man, I'd say yes. But he's been sitting w/ his hands on under his butt the last few years. With the additional picks, he'll probably draft more SGs.
Anyway, I don't see why NJ does the deal. Trade Kidd for a injury prone SG, and another guard that can't play the point? Ron Thorn is too smart for that.

Exactly which team is going to offer Ron a better deal than the Kings? Only Philly has the ability to max out any one player next off-season and you think they go after Ron when Josh Smith will be a free agent? Atlanta will be slightly under the cap and after that the list gets near non-existent. If he opts out, the Kings have a LOT of leverage to signing him on their terms. I'm sure a similar deal given to Kevin would be offered to Ron.

My point is really just that we don't know what precisely is going on in the head of Petrie. He is calculating all of these variables himself, and it just wouldn't surprise me to have Petrie take a deal for Artest if it were to come along. What would comprise a good deal to Petrie these days, is of course not entirely clear...
Anyway, I am not a big fan of the deal that was posted. Gooden is no long term solution to any of our needs, he would be a stop-gap. While two late 1st picks would certainly aid us in finding young (and cheap) rotation players, it is rare to land a starting quality PF or PG with picks that far down. Perhaps they could be bait for trade-ups, but I just don't think it tilts the deal in our favor enough to be worth giving up Artest, questions and all.
