Trade Idea: H.Haddadi (grizzlies) for S.Rodriguez (kings)

First of all, sorry if it annoys you that a non-Kingfan posts here. I mostly follow teams with Spanish players on them. I kind of like them all but the Blazers, I really don't like McMillan. So even if Rudy is there I just don't like that team much.

As you saw in the topic title, the trade is simple. No 3 teams or several players involved. Just Hamed for Sergio. They have similar roles on their teams. They hardly play a bit unless someone is injured.

The only problem comes with Omri and Hamed playing in the same team. Is that Ok? If they can't play a sport on the same team.. well you can't expect peace for million people over there. Sad thing. What do the people from Israel think about it?

My personal opinion is that Hamed is better than Thabeet, and Sergio is better than Udoka. But that's just me. People that are putting their money in both teams think the other way round. And since it's their money, its their decision.

Maybe Hamed is not the perfect fit for the Kings who are looking for someone more talented or aggressive on defense. Or maybe Sergio is not the perfect fit for the Grizzlies who are looking some PG playing defense with shooting skills (that's not Sergio as you know ^_^).

Point is... Sergio is behind Tyreke, Beno and Udoka. It's the 4th PG and hardly plays. Hamed is behind M.Gasol and Thabeet and doesn't get minutes at all. So what do these teams have to lose? They would be trading a player that doesn't play anyway. Nothing to lose.

And who knows, I think both Hamed and Sergio are much much better than many people think. I think Hamed is very talented and is not all that worse than M.Gasol, believe me. And the Grizz don't need another shooter, they just need a facilitator giving fast balls to Gay and Mayo.

You will probably see many people saying that they don't like this trade idea. Ironically the same people who think that Sergio shouldn't have a minute cos he doesn't play a lick of defense. And the same people that still believe Thabeet is a great player for their future and should start over Hammed no matter what.

So if there is no problem with someone from Israel playing side by side with someone from Iran, it's not such a bad idea.

I don't really see the point. Here you end up trading Sergio, who doesn't get many minutes but has a role on the team as the #3 PG, for Haddadi who has a grand total of 51 minutes on the season and would likely be the #7 post player on the team (behind Hawes, Thompson, Brockman certainly and probably behind Armstrong, May, and even KT). We just don't need a 7th post guy as much as a third PG, and Haddadi hasn't really shown much potential. He's big. But I'm not sure there's more to him than that.

Omri and Haddadi have no problem with each other. They shook hands and were photographed together in the last Kings-Grizzleys game. No one in Israel would object to Omri playing with and Iranian player. On the contrary. The only problem I could see is the Iranian government might have a problem with that (usually they instruct their athletes to be "injured" if they have to compete against an Israeli athlete) but if they didn't stop him from playing against Omri, then he can probably play with him.

Oh, and just one correction - Udoka is not a PG. He is in fact a part of the logjam, but not at PG but at the 2-3 (swingman) position. Sergio is the 3rd PG behind Reke and Beno.

It's the best big man you can get for a 3rd PG (if the team needs a big man, that is).

I actually like Sergio's contribution, even in the limited minutes that he gets. It's nice to have a PG who can create an extreme change in the pace of the game when it's needed. I actually don't know Hamed's skills at all, so I can't comment on how he would or wouldn't be able to contribute to the Kings, but I think the main focus of the Kings in terms of trade ideas is to get a defensive big, AND in the process clear out some of the logjam in the 2-3 positions. So, I doubt they will try to trade Sergio for a big man. Most likely the trade chips GP would use, depending on who we get in return, are Martin, Nocioni, Udoka, KT, and Hilton Armstrong. Of the players on that list, Martin will be traded only if we can get a significant big man for him. Any other players that are not on that list, will probably only be traded if we can package them with Martin in return for an Allstar-caliber big.

Being of Iranian descent, I have watched Haddadi play in both his national uniform and a Grizzlies uniform, and I really don't see him fitting in as a King. Don't get me wrong, i would LOVE for him to be on the team that I support, because I wish him nothing but the best in the NBA. But he is very flat-footed, gets beat on the defensive end constantly, and has very little awareness around the rim on the offensive end. (not to mention, I hung out with him at a hooka bar in LA during the offseason and he has the personality of a peanut). But then again, I'm not Sergio's biggest fan either, so at the end of the day, this is one of those "who cares" trades. And yes, Westphal would play all 6 of our "bigs" before Hamed, so we're talking about who will fill in the countless minutes of garbage time that will be had in the following months...

And the whole "the Iranian government will tell him to be injured if he's on the same team as a a Jewish player" theory is rubbish. I'm pretty sure Haddadi has no intention of ever returning to Iran, and also pretty sure that the Iranian government has more on their plate than trying to stop an NBA player, what with the uprisings and the demonstrations and the daily killings and possible revolution that is going on over there right now.
