Trade Deadline Thread

It's kind of irritating the Kings have gotten more flack than the Blazers. I'm not super high on NAW, but at least he's a young player with some real shot creation talent. And now he's gone for more cap relief? LOL

Yes, NAW is the precise sort of guy you should be looking at if you're a rebuilding team. I guess the Blazers think they can get a max guy over the summer?

Seems pretty likely the Jazz are gonna try to package NAW/Butler/Hernangomez(expiring) into someone who can actually help them now. Much more appealing reset package than they had before.

Allows them to get another piece without giving up O'Neale too.

Might even see them move Clarkson.

I actually think Chet would fit in perfectly next to Sabonis and Fox but I also thought Myles and Sabonis would work better than it did so I'm probably wrong there.

That was pretty much where I came down on that too. Before the news/rumor came out that the Kings don't want future assets for Barnes, I also thought a deal for Horford/Nesmith and a FRP made sense until I considered that Sabonis didn't work well with Turner so trying another floor spacing C maybe isn't the best idea.

Now maybe that's more a Turner issue that a Sabonis issue - it's hard to tell - but you wouldn't necessarily want to invest a really high lottery pick or trade for a guy with a couple years and a lot of money on his deal only to be wrong about that.

But Holmgren is definitely a very different player than Turner too, and he's finding ways to be effective with Timme. Does he have the lateral quickness to not get completely scorched if he's forced to guard 4's? I don't know. To me that's a much bigger question than whether he'll be bullied by bigger guys. Holmgren will likely never be a full time starting center, and very few guys have PFs that bang inside often. It's much more likely that teams go small and beat him with quickness on offense and force him to prove he can score inside if guarded by a 6'5" or 6'6" guy on the other end.

I'm fascinated by Chet - he's so fun to watch and is one of the weirdest prospects I've ever looked at. I go back and forth on whether he's too risky to take that high or if he's just too talented to pass up. But I don't think the Kings will have to worry about whether or not draft Holmgren at all unless Fox and Holmgren go down with injuries.

But he has a chance to be. 6'6" shot creators don't exactly grow on trees and he was getting hot after a bad start to the year at just 23 years old.
Poor shooter (or streaky if you think he has potential), creates offense for himself, and is turnover prone. The Pels gave him every chance to step up this season and he lost his starting job. He might pan out, but he isn't a big asset or anything

Yeah but he's probably going to be better than whoever they wind up drafting with those two second rounders.

He has a chance to be, but Utah is trying to win now. I don’t really understand the move for anyone.

6'6" with a long frame. With Ingles out and the way things were trending, the Jazz needed to add some sort of perimeter depth.

I don't think this is their end goal though. Probably another move or two to be made by them by tomorrow.

This isn't all too surprising. Outside of blocked shots, where Turner is far better, Sabonis has been better than Turner at just about everything - much better rebounder and passer, more efficient scorer while being a higher usage player, you name it. His 3PT% is actually a bit lower, but he shoots fewer so it's probably a minor plus. If I had my pickings between the two for the same price, I'm taking Sabonis 10 times out of 10 unless I specifically believe shotblocker is my biggest need. And even then I probably take Sabonis and try to find a shotblocking specialist on the cheap.
