Trade Deadline Thread

Hopefully the next part brings in a good piece but order of players I’d rather go out is bags then holmes then Barnes. I know they want to move Barnes but I think he really fits with sabonis and we need what he brings.

I agree that Barnes fits with Sabonis.

Davion, Holiday, Barnes, Washington/Porzingis, and Sabonis would be a good starting five. They can space the floor and provide suffocating defense in the backcourt.

My bet: Jerami Grant is part 2. Bags + the Kings 2022 first for him.

My wish list:
Barnes to Boston for Pritchard and a protected first. Or Barnes to NYK for Kemba and a protected first. Or Barnes to Utah for O'Neal and a protected first.
This team needs a backup PG now. A second to ATL for Delon Wright?
And would love for them to try to get Trey Murphy from NO.

I don't think the Kings need a defensive big. Mostly because Sabonis has to play the 5. Play a defensive 5 next to him and it compress his value. Len and Jones is fine as back up 5s.
Yeah. Back up pg or just another guard is a must. It was bad watching Ramsey play last night. In fact all of Ramsey, king and Woodard looked bad.

If you had to choose one of the following trades for Grant, which one would you choose?
  1. Bagley & Mitchell for Grant
  2. Bagley, Harkless, & 2022 SAC 1st (Top 4 Protected) for Grant

I think I'd definitely take #1 since I question the Fox/Mitchell fit long term. Follow that trade up with Holmes for PJ Washington/Ish Smith and Barnes for Kyle Anderson/Ziaire Williams and you're left with:

PG - Fox / Smith
SG - Holiday / Lamb / Ramsey / Davis
SF - Anderson / Williams / Harkless / Woodard
PF - Grant / Washington / Metu
C - Sabonis / Jones / Len
2022 Picks - SAC 1st / SAC 2nd / CHI 2nd

It also opens the door for us to feel okay about drafting a SG in the 2022 draft (and there are a ton of them) since you don't have Mitchell, Haliburton, Hield anymore). Next offseason you'd have:

PG - Fox
SG - Holiday / Davis / Ramsey
SF - Williams / Harkless / Woodard
PF - Grant / Washington / Metu
C - Sabonis / Len
2022 Picks - SAC 1st / SAC 2nd / CHI 2nd

#2. As for fit, if Mitchell and Fox doesn't work, Fox goes out. You need Mitchell's defense on the perimeter with Sabonis anchoring the defense. Need defensive perimeter players to work next to Sabonis.

Yeah I flip back & forth.

Part of me believes in Mitchell's ability to improve as a shooter and be a great 3&D PG who can also pass & score. That's a solid fit next to Fox. And you also want Mitchell as the point of attack on defense (especially if Sabonis is the big being put in the PnR with Mitchell). If Fox & Mitchell don't work out for whatever reason, you can try to increase Fox's value over time and move him.

Mitchell
???
???
Grant
Sabonis

At least two of the most important defensive positions next to Sabonis are covered: point of attack (Mitchell) and complementary, weakside shotblocking PF (Grant) and you'd have a lot of cap flexibility to maybe bring some other big name in next to those 3.

Now that the boat anchor of not playing next to Haliburton is gone he’s totally going to return to All-Star form!

I give it a month before we start hearing Mitchell is holding Fox back. It's early, but last night was discouraging. They were operating on different islands. Good news is, I suspect the team's main facilitator will be Sabonis. Start seeing more cutting and set jump shots.

Well he did have 29/7/6 last night on 50%fg and 4/6 from the 3. Could have had a couple more assists if the team wasn’t bricking a bunch of 3s. But in the end it was in a loss so I guess it doesn’t really matter.

Morey getting Morey’d

I'm guessing they finally agree on Harden for Simmons and one of those two. I think Dame and Embiid is a championship level duo. But Harden and Embiid? We'll see. And the clock is ticking on Harden. He's only a year older than Dame but his conditioning has been an issue at times. My guess is that when he falls off in a couple years it will be a very steep decline. We'll see.

I feel like we’re already seeing the decline. People were quick to blame the rules changing for Harden’s rough season but he just hasn’t been moving like he used to and he’s not quite getting as much behind his shots as he used to.

Fat aging bad James Harden on a SuperMax wasting some of the prime years of Embiid will be amazing,

Which is a pretty tricky trade to pull off in all honesty...

If we could make a trade with framework like this work:

DET Gets: Marvin Bagley, & Young Assets from Team X
SAC Gets: Jerami Grant, PJ Washington, & Ish Smith
CHA Gets: Richaun Holmes
Team X Gets: Harrison Barnes

That would be pretty solid as Grant/Washington is a much better fit next to Sabonis than Barnes/Holmes and we would keep both Mitchell and our 2022 1st in this scenario to continue to add young talent:

PG - Mitchell / Smith
SG - Fox / Lamb / Ramsey / Davis
SF - Grant / Holiday / Woodard
PF - Washington / Harkless / Metu
C - Sabonis / Jones / Len
2022 Picks - SAC 1st / SAC 2nd / CHI 2nd

The only tricky part about this type of scenario is which team would prefer Barnes over Grant? Otherwise, Team X just cuts us out and gets Grant for themselves. It'd likely have to be a team that would value Barnes shooting more than Grant's defense (or maybe it's a team that is scared off by Grant's comments about wanting a big role, wanting a big pay day, etc.)

People who have absolutely never seen Buddy play before value him way more than actual GMs and anyone who has watched two minutes of game film of him.

Like seriously, that is a better return than the Blazers got for CJ.

I wish Buddy was ever this good to warrant that package, much less after massively regressing for 2 and a half seasons.

Or maybe even something like this as I think Grant & Washington are probably both best at PF (vs trying to play them together at SF/PF):

DET Gets: Marvin Bagley, PJ Washington, & Young Assets/Picks from Team X
SAC Gets: Jerami Grant, Ish Smith, & Young Assets/Picks from Team X
CHA Gets: Richaun Holmes

Potential hot take, but I think PJ Washington is going to be better than Jerami Grant and is a substantially better fit next to Fox/Sabonis at the 4.

I posted something similar only with the Knicks in place of the Hornets and us working out a separate deal for Holmes.

Bagley, Fournier knicks First rounder and Kings second rounder to the Pistons.

Barnes to the Knicks

Grant to the Kings

Knicks get Barnes and out of the Fournier contract for the price of a mid rounder. The only question is the package enticing enough for the Pistons to take on Fournier. He probably would pair well with Cade I suppose.

Personally, I'd like us to stay away from Grant and go with Washington and really just be done at that point. A team of...

PG - Mitchell / Smith
SG - Fox / Lamb / Ramsey / Davis
SF - Barnes / Holiday / Woodard
PF - Washington / Harkless / Bagley / Metu
C - Sabonis / Jones / Len

...is okay for right now. I'd prefer to hold onto our young assets in Mitchell & 2022 SAC 1st and pop our heads back up in the offseason to see where we're at.

Depending on how things go, a Fox/Barnes package could be appealing to some team in the offseason and land us a solid/great player to go with Sabonis, Washington, Mitchell, and our 2022 SAC 1st long term.

EDIT: But having said that, sending out Barnes & Holmes for Grant and young assets/picks could put us in a position to add a max/near max player to Mitchell, Fox, Grant, Sabonis, Woodard, 2022 SAC 1st, and 2023 SAC 1st. Grant is reportedly seeking a $100 mil/4 year extension. That would give us around $30 mil in cap space during the 2023 offseason with the previous players mentioned under contract.
