Trade Deadline Thread

I think Jerami’s timeline is different because of what a great athlete he is. It’s like being 4 years younger in NBA years than an average NBA athlete.

From the Real GM Pacers trade board. Second hand, but:

Wizop wrote: Chad Ford says in a subscribers only post that he's heard rumors of Sabonis and McConnell for Mitchell, Bagley, Thompson and a FRP top 5 protected. he also says Kings would be better off with Turner if his foot weren't an issue.

If true, Monte needs to pull the trigger yesterday.

That sounds okay. McConnell is out for the remainder of the season and we currently stand a pretty good chance of being in the top 5 with todays fifth worst record.
Still think the Pacers could do better.

That’s probably the first deal I’ve read and thought “Damn that’s nice!”

So of course it’s probably 100% fabricated nonsense.

Yep, so we’ll throw Buddy in.
Which brings up the question, does Buddy have any trade value and if so to who?

Seems suuuper light for Sabonis, essentially amounting to Mitchell and a top 5 protected FRP. Can't sleep on McConnell either, who's a legitimately good player and a short-term improvement on Davion.

So I'm skeptical, but I'd pull the trigger if true. Get the pieces, figure out the fit/defensive role players around them later.

NO. Do this first.

All politics aside, as far as basketball potential/skill, what's your gage
Jonathan Issac's injury takes 9 months to recover (most professionals come back sooner), he suffered the injury 17 months ago and hasn't played a game since.

That fact alone should give teams pause. Unless the Magic is going to give him away, which I highly doubt, I don't think any team would trade for him without seeing him back on the court and playing.

Fair enough, would you do a Harrison with a protected first or bagley/ hield for him?

Just curious what his potential trade value should be in your eyes

I get the “politics” angle - but I’m not trying to go there. As a professional athlete - you have to be available to your team. His decision - regardless of the “politics” - makes him much less likely to be available. That is not the leadership the Kings need to pull out of the funk they are in.

He had serious potential and a serious injury. And there is a lot I like about the dude - he seems nice enough. I’d take a “flier” on him - maybe for Buddy, but I wouldn’t trade a first for him and eliminate a swing for the fences move.

Maybe it’s Fox not Mitchell in the above proposed Sabonis trade. Fox has been sitting out for some reason.
Well, for cap purposes Fox would never work instead of Mitchell with a deal structured like that.

Can't say I would be super hyped about McConnell - another PG who can't shoot the three, and we'd be on the books for three more years (his age 30-32 seasons) for $26M more dollars. He's a defender, but I definitely see him as a pretty big downgrade to Mitchell in the long run, for more money. Since we can all be pretty confident Buddy is going to be gone, who's going to spread the floor?

Frankly, I'd probably do Fox+random piece for Sabonis/McConnell and keep the pick, if Indy was willing to go there. Then try running Bagley with Sabonis and see if we can make it work.

I honestly hope that we trade (60%) of the following players:

Buddy
Barnes
Bagley
Holmes
T.T.
Harkless
Len
Metu

and maybe

Fox

And get a couple players that are either hurt or prospects that have higher ceilings on teams that need win now talent and a pick or two.

Would love players like

Turner - Ind
Patrick Williams - CHI
PJ Washington - CHA
Bertans - WAS

Hurt and or underperforming players and picks coming back.

This probably isn't happening...

Meanwhile, there's a suggestion floating out there (mostly just chatter, I'm sure) that the Bulls ought to go after Richaun. Now, there's a lot of stuff the Bulls won't give up to get him, and the only pick they can send is Portland's 2022-etc FRP, which is lotto protected for an amazing 6 years before devolving into a SRP. But if I had to draw up a package that might tempt me, I'd go after that pick, and Ayo Dosunmu, and fill it out with Derrick Jones. Jones may not stick but would be a fun tryout, and I've been all over Dosunmu for a while. But of course, that's a rebuild trade and not a win-now trade, so it's not really up Monte's alley right now...

For being our star player, I understand Fox isn’t much of a leader. Not sure about Sabonis in that respect, but I would think with Haliburton’s chops the two of them would make for a respectable duo to build a team around.

Sabonis gives you a legit front court scorer, who is also a legit connector. A much better fit than Fox, who overlaps with Hali too much on ball handling, but doesn't have enough connecting or perimeter shooting to mitigate the overlap.

I've been a fan of Donsumu for a while. Donsumu and Herb Jones were my these dudes aren't going to be drafted high, but are going to be 10 year pros prospects. Still pissed the Kings weren't able to nab Jones in the 2nd round.

This year: the UCLA duo. Both are going to be ten year pros, who outperform where they're drafted. Jacquez and Juzang.
