[NBA] Trade Deadline Season 2026 Open Thread

If I’m Milwaukee I want one young player that can be an all star. Picks are great but the 27 and 28 draft are shaping up to be historically weak. The Bucks need Rollins, young player x and their ‘26 lottery pick to be a start of a core. They can trade Portis for a few seconds and Turner for a later first (hello Lakers probably)

I don't see a Giannis trade until the offseason, make the interested teams fight over themselves and in the meantime, try to get in the top 14 and nab a pick in a presumed quality draft to kickstart the rebuild

The thing that sucks with Giannis being made available is that teams that were willing to wheel and deal a couple of weeks ago, all of the sudden are going to wait for the Giannis trade to drop before making deals.

If the Giannis deal goes all the way to the trade deadline or worse yet, doesn't happen yet, we may not see any significant trade deals being made until the summer. :(

I've come to the realization that I want trades just because I can't bear to watch this current team for the rest of the year. Something... ANYTHING at the deadline to get me somewhat interested again in this team is really more for my personal well being. However, as far as us losing out on value for our "assets", I feel like only Deebo and Ellis would be critical to trade at the deadline. Otherwise, not sure it really matters if its now or in the offseason, or even just let contracts naturally die out (assuming Christie continues to play the rookies more and our vets develop back pain the last couple months of the season).

The fact that we have the T-Wolves 2030 first is increasingly relevant lol

Man, I do not want Giannis to come out west. It doesn't really impact the Kings' timeline much, since they theoretically won't be competitive for at least a few seasons if a rebuild is truly underway, but still... if Giannis makes his way out west, literally all of the league's MVP candidates would be in one conference. The East's All-Star roster is already looking mighty thin, and it'd be just plain silly to have Jokic, SGA, Wemby, Doncic, and Giannis all competing for various Western Conference honors.

I hear you. But, I wouldn't necessarily be too upset if he comes out West...As long as he don't decide that he actually wants to play in either Crypto.com or Intuit...If Minnesota is his eventual destination, I will live with that.

The fact is if the Kings don't make moves at the deadline it's very likely this is basically the same squad coming in next season too. The Kings need to slash at least one bigger contract otherwise they're right at those cap levels that will stick them where they are. Don't be surprised if they end up cutting DeMar this summer and buy out LaVine and that's basically it, lol.

It's really bizarre to hear the Spurs are passing on Giannis. They might regret that one if Wemby like a lot of those skinny tall guys can't last. They have the pieces to make a deal, contend easily for the next 4 or 5 years, and still be able to make it work financially. They might be falling in love with potential a little too much here. When they've done that in the past it's usually bit them in the backside.

Well, I don't see the point in buying out Lavine over the summer (assuming he picks up his player option). He's a huge expiring contract which potentially could have big value in facilitating a trade at next years trade deadline. Feels like you might as well keep him, don't pick up Deebo's option, then try to trade Domas and Monk.

“War chest of assets” but it’s just Kuminga and Podz and a couple of pick swaps and a pick.

The Warriors are delusional with their rumored offer. Why would a small market team like the Bucks want a busted up Jimmy Butler ($56 mil) and couple of players that Kerr won't play for the MVP of the league?

Unless Dunleavy has some kinda of Yoda mind control over the Bucks GM (like the Lakers GM had on Dallas's GM), no way would I take any "package" from the Warriors.

It’s about the picks, not the players. Post Curry picks and swaps are potentially super valuable.

The issue is historically how many expirings that size net anything? Especially for a rebuilding team? They still have to match salaries which is why so many deals where teams get bonus goodies are the ones with cap space, not huge expirings. I always go back to Amare Stoudemire. For years people said the Knicks will have the biggest asset in all of basketball when his contract finally gets to it's last year. Wrong. They bought him out because it's hard to move that kind of salary without taking garbage back just to make the numbers work. On a rebuilding team almost invariably the team sees that expiring as their own asset and path to cap flexibility. It's like with Domas right now, they'll likely have to take an albatross just to make the numbers work. If LaVine is held hostage here then things will get ugly. Perry is in a corner and ironically enough it's probably Schroders contract that's going to squeeze him into it even tighter this summer.

Yeah, you have the ability to pair Giannis and Wemby without gutting the rest of your team and they're passing on it... because maybe Harper or Castle might be all nba someday?

So silly. Glad these teams overthink the obvious sometimes. Giannis+Wemby+ay least one of the guards (likely 2) is the title favorite while Giannis stays at a high level.
