I've always assumed that Michael Jordan's baseball career was a cover-up for a gambling suspension. There were a couple of stories about his involvement in high stakes gambling just before he announced his "retirement."

I have to admit, in the good old wild west days of usenet and rec.sport.basketball.pro I loved that story. But I really think its just something for the Jordan haters, because it usually also included that Jordan's father's death was gambling related.
