Tor trades Jack, Banks, Anderson to NO for Bayless, Peja

Interesting trade. New Orleans did this clearly to get out of Peja's contract and give CP3 a decent back up in Jack. They just got Bayless and traded him away quickly. It's an O.K. deal for both sides. Toronto should be able to give Peja the starting 3 and maybe he can still produce for them.

Bayless would be nice, I wish we had made some effort to get him on the cheap. All we had to do was rent our cap space for the year for Peja's contract.

I don't quite understand the fascination with Bayless--he's really a SG in a PG's body, and even though he's increased his assist rate he's also increased turnovers. Didn't play much defense last year, really average at best when he tries. Best asset is his driving ability and ability to get to the line. I get the allure that he's super young and was a lottery pick hyped up with great scoring ability, but to me that's just an illusion. But in a team that's desperate for a guy who can seriously drive to the basket, he might actually get some run. But then again, I thought that was the case in NO as well, and then a month later he gets traded--tells you what they think of his upside.

As for the trade itself, it's not groundbreaking for either team and can be considered a wash. New Orleans in particular I'm not sure if this was great--trading Peja means they're investing in a guy who might be playing too many minutes (Ariza) given that he can't shoot. Jack is as solid as it gets and ranks as one of the better backup PGs in the league now, but come on, with CP3 being a minutes sponge was this necessary? He's a chameleon though, can adjust to what the situation calls for, can play both guard positions effectively. David Andersen is an absolute bust, and Marcus Banks' career has been irrelevant since about five years ago. NO must be super high on Jack if they're willing to sack Peja's useful expiring for that.

Toronto gets Bayless, and I think that since DeRozan's struggling, Weems is inefficient and Calderon is the only PG, Bayless can get minutes here. Moreover, Bayless moves from a slow-pace team to an above-average pace team, so he can thrive here as well in his one trick of driving and maybe pick up some dimes along the way. Peja actually was a decent defender last year--I think he's slightly underrated in this area, even between his chronic injuries and lack of diversity in his game. But a veteran presence. So ultimately not sure who wins out here.

Yeah, I don't get the Bayless talk either. He's a ball dominant guard who exels at drawing fouls. Not sure how this misconception started, but the ideal backcourt pairing for Reke is a guy who can do well WITHOUT the ball in his hands--defense, hitting the open J, and handling the ball as needed.

What do you guys think about adding Peja next year as a back up on a low salary? I mean he can still be a spot up shooter, and to bring in a vet presence who can spot up for 3s for 10-20 minutes per game with Cousins and Reke on the floor might help us a lot. Plus he won't get a lot of money and he might want to end his career where it started.

IMO, bad idea. We already have too many lazy and non-defending players on this team (Beno, the regressing Landry, and the trying-too-hard to be the #1 offensive option Casspi). Adding one more will be too much to bear.

Eh I wouldn't be so sure all those guys will be around next year. Beno maybe as a back up PG but I could see Casspi being traded and Landry leaving in FA(overpaying him would be a big mistake IMO). I wouldn't be shocked to see us bring in a guy like Chauncey Billups or another PG that plays D and can shoot. I can see Casspi being traded to condense some talent because we have too many young guys already. It's time to get some veterans on this team.

Wait, we can't seem to find minutes for Casspi and Greene together. Why bring in a washed-up Peja (sorry, Peja, but it's true) in the hopes of getting 10-20 minutes out of him? If Peja is in Sacramento next season, he'd better be a shooting coach.

If DeRozan is struggling, then it's time to by ice in January. Make the call, Petrie: Thompson for DeRozan.

How can you possibly say Derozen is stuggling? the guy has been flirting with career scoring numbers night in night out atleast from what I saw, if i'm not mistaken he even broke his record.

He's on his way of being the face of thier franchise slowly but surely.
