..... next year maybe??? Or maybe the Hornet's game away on Nov 19 ???
5 Hawes
4 Thompson
3 Greene
2 Kevin
1 Beno

Bench
5 Brad
4 Williams, Moore (if he is still here)
3 Cisco, Salmons
2 BJax, Salmons
1 Brown, BJax

The Clipper announcers sang the praises of Thompson and Beno tonight along with Hawes. This was an exciting game and gives us our first glimpse of the future. Greene getting a few minutes and some points without screwing up and showing his length.

Nov 19 - Brad + JT + Greene + Salmons + Beno, Hawes off bench with BJax!!!

You gotta realize that there's no way Brad or Donte would start without the guys in front of them being traded (honestly it would even be a stretch to see JT start barring injury or trade) But, a trade involving Brad and/or John at the deadline could be very likely. We just gotta hope a contender out there wants an extra piece when the time comes.

I still would start Salmons at the 3 and bring Greene and Garcia off the bench.

For all of this year for sure. If John steps up at the 3, then having a 6-10 SF with Greene's apparent talent off the bench would be awesome. Cisco can play the 1, 2, and 3.

Mikki is good for 6-10 pts a game and that's about it. But there are a few out there who probably could use a 7-foot journeyman.........I hope.

Let's see if Greene starts to get a consistent few minutes a game..... oh boy :D

Greene is 2-3 years out being a solid contributor. He reminds me alot of Martins first year. He seems just happy to be there. Needs to settle way down and put alot of work in summer time and learn how to focus.

I agree.

But if we will let Greene have some significant playing time now, maybe next year he can become a solid contributor.

Martin did not develop fast ( and also Gerard Wallace and Hedo Turkoglu ), because they were not given that much playing time during their first years of NBA play. The team are pretty much stack during their early years in Sacramento.

I suggest we trade Salmons and Moore and accelerate the development of the Kids and see what happens. These two players in their respective positions of #3 and #4 will never be the right starter pieces if we are to build a championship team anyways. Moore is just too weak at #4 and Salmons is just too small to match-up with the other elite teams's #3. Both players will be our weakest link. Both will give the Kings a big match-up problem comes playoff time in the future.

Wow, that's a high number for him. You are very generous. Mikki Moore is terrible.

meh.. I like Moore but only off the bench.. We need guys like him..

Also in re: to Brad I really do hope he stays with us at a reduced rate off the bench once his contract is up. I think Brad means more to this team than any other player right now. At least until Hawes can learn to see the floor as well as Brad can.

Mikki Moore is a journeyman GP brought in on the relative cheap for one reason - well actually two. SAR had been an injury risk that became a painfully true reality as the Kings hoped for answer at PF. KT was and is horrible baggage at PF.

Obviously, JT is THE ANSWER at PF and the sooner he takes the reins at that position the better. 33-year-old Mikki can come off the bench until he's possibly traded or his short term contract expires. KT? He's really the only one on the Kings roster who deserves the constant scorn of - TERRIBLE!

It's a bit premature to throw Greene's name into the starting lineup right now. He's not disappointing, but he's not impressing either; he's where he's expected to be, and his game at this point can still go in either direction--impressing or pissing. We'll see.

As far as next year goes. Williams will not be here nor with Douby as we won't pick up re-sign them. Moore or Miller is gone. and we will have 2 first rounder next year and will probably get another big to take the place of them and take a pg also then take a 1 demisional big in the second round ala Justin Williams type. Shot blocker and rebounder with no offense.

This is exactly what I'd like to see happen, but I'm not daring to hope for it.

I agree.. Greene is too green (muah!). What I like though is that he is joking around, and generally in high spirits every time the camera is on him. He was actually laughing a lot at the game last night. I think he might be the Kings new jokester. I also like him in the whole "lets go Kings" high five after timeouts. He definitely has the tools to be our future SF.

I would rather keep Miller around though.. He sees the floor better than anyone we have on the team including Beno.

i dont get everyone wanting to trade salmons. every time he holds on to the ball, dribbles a couple times and jacks up a bad shot i want to break my tv, but that doesn't mean that he's not a good player to keep around. he brings lots of energy, defense, and can do a little bit of energy. if martin, beno and hawes (not including jt because i havent seen enough consistent offensive game from him yet) can all get their offense clicking, salmons will make a great option to get open shots, lay ups, put backs and other hustle plays without interrupting the offense a la marion in phoenix who never got any plays drawn up for him but could still score into the 20s. he has a reasonably priced contract and i'm not sure that we'd get equal value in return. he is a perfect roleplayer on any team. just because we're not contending now doesn't mean we should be trying to trade him away for nothing. also, greene is still green, and i would not bank anything on a rookie who hasn't seen consistent minutes and was considered to be a significant gamble pre-draft.

so, "the future" looks to me more like

beno
martin
salmons
jt
hawes

bench of:
mikkie
cisco
greene
brown
______
(assuming brad will be out to pasture by then)

A very solid team, i think Hawes and Martin are both potential all stars, , beno could be very very good but could also prove to be an inconsistent journeyman, salmons is salmons, greene is totally unknown.

thompson for me is the crux of this youth movement. if he is a bust (i dont think so) then we have major problems. if he is an all star talent or better, we might have the makings of a contender already, minus a deeper bench.

all in all, plenty of reasons to watch the kings this year as the future (finally) is beginning to take shape.

I think the goal for next season is to have Greene be ready for consistent minutes off the bench. Possible starter by 2010-11.
I would be surprised if Brad is still with the team next season, he'd be an expensive backup. Jackson is an expiring contract, he's gone (maybe retired). The Kings didn't pick up the option on Williams and I expect Moore to be on his way out as well.
The Kings have been gradually cutting away salary, except for the obsession with MLE players, it would be crazy for them to build a young base of talent and then roll into next season with about $18.5 million in cap space committed to two backup big men (Brad and Mikki). There are cheaper options out there and if the Kings want to be a player in free agency one of these summers, they're going to have to be more careful with the contracts they offer to those marginal players. Basically, we need more Bobby Browns and less Mikki Moores and then we could some day have the cap room to sign one of those LeBron James' guys.

What? Are you kidding me? So, are you saying we need guys like him that can only grab ONE freaking rebound?

Energy off the bench, plus he's a good guy to have on the team (morale wise) he pumps others up around him. Not saying we keep him here past his contract unless he's willing to take the vet minimum. But he is a good influence on the younger guys.

He's a decent man on man defender as well. In the right situation off the bench he can help us.. There are a lot worse guys out there to have backing up at PF/C than Moore..

This is probably the most realistic viewpoint. We will make another trade before the end of the year and most likely it will be Brad. I wish we could get rid of KT/MM/SW but it is unlikely we will get much for them, whereas Brad will bring something in return. I would take a single 2nd round draft pick for any of the three mentioned above and keep Brad if we could ..... but i think there will be teams out there willing to give up quite a bit for Brad and Petrie will be shopping him hard.

I don't know about that.

He said he'd probably sign one more contract for the vet's min, and I don't see any reason why they wouldn't keep him here as the 3rd string PG or subbed in for special needs. Awesome veteran to have on the bench and in the locker room. He has talent, loves Sac, and Sac loves him. Also talked about going into coaching as well, I think.

I'm sure i'm not the only who sees this.....John Salmons just doesn't GET IT. The ball gets moved around and when it comes to him, he starts thinking he's AI or Kobe or MJ and that it's on his shoulders to make it happen. I can't believe the Suns actually wanted him because he definitely doesnt' fit their style of play. Salmons slows the game down and turns the team game into a single man effort. Honestly, he's a good player and he can make some plays but we don't need salmons out there making player for himself...it has no part in TEAM Development....and that's what we need.

Someone will want a potential 20+ point score and some size at the 5 with Moore. Hopefully we can package them together for at the very least, some expiring contracts.

Well, after the Hornets game, this thread brought the future up a bit. No Kevin but JT for Mikki and Greene for Salmons who moved up to the 2. Greene's debut was really great and much more than we could have expected.

So you nay sayers, ynah, ynah, ynah!!!

Its always good to see a young player rise to the occasion of the moment. We, as fans invest so much emotion into our vicarious expectations. So, Yi Pi, jump up and down, and scream, were not going to take it anymore. At least for one night.:)

For those who weren't around the first time, enjoy every single moment like tonight. Celebrate the successes of our young kids and don't worry about the future. Live in the moment. You'll be very glad you did.

I LOVE THIS TEAM!!!
