TNT Analysis (Rant)

He might be more 1 on 1 than previous stars, but if that were true why did he win 6 TEAM titles in 8 seasons.QUOTE]

Let's be realistic. MJ won 6 titles in 6 seasons. He was gone for 1 1/2 of the other two. Anyone who doesn't admit Jordan is the greatest player ever, either 1. Had their team burned by him so many times they hate him.
2. Is a fan of another player (Kobe for example) who was supposed to be the "next Jordan" and can't live up to the expectations or
3. Is just trying to be different and stir things up.

1. The aging Lakes lost to a superior young Bulls team, Worthy and Scott had nagging injuries to boot. Can't really say that applies to me. I don't hate MJ. He isn't as squeaky clean as everyone thinks and he's been protected by the media like no other. That's my only gripe.

2. Once again, Kobe brought into the equation. I've personally never said Kobe was as good as Jordan. When one says MJ isn't far and away the GOAT, suspicion rules supreme. Point #2 also illustrates MJ fans' compulsion to attack and discredit new players who are called "the next MJ" by the media. Deep down, I think they WANT such players to fail miserably.

3. How perfect is that quote? Don't be different and stir things up by not unequivocally claiming MJ was the best. Going against MJ in these types of threads is like tapping a wasp nest with a stick. Lmao.

Gargamel, I've nothing against you either. Just because MJ is the best player I've ever seen, it doesn't make me a Jordan jocker. You might want lessen up alittle on saying how all the "Jordan jockers" are biased since it seems like you have been wearing Laker shades for the whole time in your praise of Magic.

I don't know if I referred to you personally as a Jordan jocker. Sorry if I did. I may sound more biased towards Magic because I've seen more of his game than any of the other guys I mentioned.

Excuse me Gargamel, Grant a premier PF. A good solid 14/10 guy. I said Rodman was known before it. Grant did nothing really with the Magic, yes they got to the finals but really asn't that effective. What has Kukoc done afterwards. Pippen yes a great player but nowhere near the stature of Kareem, that's the point.
...
You act like Kukoc was Dirk, he is a decent role player that's it. It was Jordan and Pippen and role players. Whatever, it's impossible to win an argument.
I dislike MJ euphoria for the same reason Gargamel does: Too much help from refs, too much hype, made bball boring one-on-one isolation game. I think you underestamte MJ supporting cast. Grant played great for Magics supporting role the same he played for the bulls. Kukoc was better then Dirk in his euro days he just came later to nba. He as a rookie and Pippen (while hating each other) led bulls to playoff when MJ was out. Kukoc was not role player. He was terrific in last champ series (against Utah). He played for a terrible Bulls team after MJ, Pippen and Rodman had gone and got injured.

Bottom line MJ had great supporting cast and all the help from refs. He was great player but I dislike the type of basketball played at the time and I still hate star tretmant still present in NBA.

Jordan had a great supporting cast but nowhere near the level of the Lakers title teams. There's no comparison. Kareem, Scott and Worthy are lightyears above anyone but Pippen.

That notion has unfairly been projected onto me. You even tried to bring Kobe into this discussion so I figure you must think I'm incapable of judging players because of my allegiance to LA. I'd never claim that Kobe is as good as Jordan and I had just as much respect for Bird, for example, as I did for Magic. I've included a group of players that I think are in the same echelon with Jordan.

I don't think MJ's that much greater than the other greats like the media would have us blindly accept. It's really a subjective title but, for the last 10-15 years, it's been almost blasphemous to do anything but worship MJ. Again, a thread like this has further strengthened my opinion that Jordan fans get quite angry when someone dares to "disrespect" him by having the audacity to say he was merely as good as Magic, Bird, etc.

It's not MJ's fault that the media hyped him up. The simple fact is that when you're that great, the media hype inevitably follows. I think MJ is the best ever just from watching him play, watching him win 6 championships, make his supporting casts better, watching him make countless clutch shots, and watching him actually play defense (a forgotten art in the NBA by most great players).

Through no fault of his own, the media has overhyped Lebron. This kid is something special, he shouldn't be compared to MJ yet, but that's just the way the media works. It doesn't mean you should let the media bias alter your opinion. It may have been alittle bit much at times, but the media was actually right, MJ is the best ever to play this game.

I agree teamdime but isn't this thread supposed to be about TNT?

Not anymore Venom already hijacked the thread bringing up MJ and Magic. It's been a who's the greatest of all time debate ever since.

Sorry to disappoint you.

I didn't hijack anything. I used an analogy to say how Stephen A. is worse than the TNT cast, some yahoo thought I was stating that MJ was overrated, and it devolved from there.

Ok back to the original subject of this post; why does TNT insist on showing whoever's being interviewed in a split screen along with the game as its being played?? How incredibly stupid is this? We only need to hear the guy, but we're all tuning in to see the guy; not some celebrity who happens to be in the stands on any given night.

If it was a rule that threads had to stick to their original topics, we would have run out of things to talk about a very long time ago.

Threads sometimes take on lives of their own. Wait until the off-season.

;)
