Thoughts from a Hopeful Fan

Hello everyone, longtime lurker here. I’ve been cheering VF21’s great viewpoints, valuing Brick’s insightful analysis, and laughing at all the great comments on this board for years as I try to stay connected from the east coast and now the midwest. But now seems as good a time as any to step out and add to the conversation.

So I’m HOPEFUL. Why??? Because we continue to lose…but not by much. Sure we have the occasional blowout, but these Kings have shown they can hang with some very good teams. This means we look forward to the great draft pick we need (hoowah!) and expect that new blood (along with shedding some dead weight) can really push us over that critical edge. The edge I speak of is about much more than the 5.6 ppg losses (or something close) that we seem to average lately. As Salmons said last night, it’s about “believing.”

Have you ever seen those people that hold the ropes at the end of a college football game to keep the crowd from rushing the field? As soon as one drops the rope, others soon follow suit. It’s human nature not to put yourself out there when your teammates aren’t holding up their end of the rope. I think some critical people have given up thinking they can win and simply aren’t holding up their end. Human nature is taking over with the rest. I think that’s what Coachie is noticing.

The only thing I would do with this team is to sequester them for a few days doing intensive teambuilding & challenge exercises to make them a team, build faith in each other, and get them invested enough in each other that they actually cared about not letting the others down (and no, we would not be singing koom-by-ya or hugging trees or anything ). Then I would focus on having fun and playing purely for the love of the game. But I really don’t care about “fixing” this team…right now I think things are happening as they need to happen.

I’m hopeful now in much the same way I was early in 2002 when my buddies on the east coast would look at my Kings hat, shake their heads, and say “the Kings aren’t going anywhere.” We were losing, but not by much, and I knew if we could get everyone healthy we could compete. I hope the coaching staff can keep this group’s psyches intact through all the losing so that they’re prepared to respond when actual talent is infused. Because once that happens and we start to fire on all cylinders, the future can be very bright indeed. As Driver of the Year Charles Barkley says, ‘it’s just my opinion…I could be wrong.’

First of all, Wellcome! I appreciate your optimisn, which is hard to nurture at the moment. I see that your now residing in my home state of Missouri. The show me state. Famous for Jessie James and hanging John Smith. Lets not forget the the Missouri mules.

This is a team in transition, made up of players of the future and players that won't be here in a year or two. Its hard for the latter not to feel disinfranchised. If your Miller, Moore, Douby, Williams, and possibly Salmons, where do your loyalities lie. Are you still playing for the team? Are you playing for self pride? Or, are you just playing because your contract requires it and you just want to get through the season? I would say its a mixed bag of all three, depending on the person.

I've always felt that Miller would rather be out hunting than playing basketball. Unfortunately, hunting doesn't pay as well. Sometimes in life, the thing were good at, isn't the thing we would really like to do. But we do it because we can earn a living at it. It becomes a blessing and a curse at the same time. And at times, it appears were just going through the motions.

This may, or may not be the case with Miller. I'm not a shrink, and I don't pretend to know the inner workings of his mind. But I do know that there are times when it appears to me that he's just going through the motions. He needs to be moved, and the sooner the better.

welcome. your forgot to mention the brilliance of tyrant as you were paying homage. anyways welcome indeed. this team is bad. very bad. you judge a team on 2 things. if they can make the playoffs and how they do in the playoffs. a team like the 2002 kings=great. they had the regular season record and convincingly proved to the world that they shouldve been 2002 nba champs. and then you have a team like the suns. who have the regular season record, but lose 1-4 every year against the spurs in the 1st or 2nd round. tho the suns have had = success to the kings (both making conference finals appearances and usually advancing past the 1st round) they were never in the same ballpark. the kings had a clutch point guard, the suns didnt. the kings played defense, the suns didnt. what we're seeing now is pure garbage. this is the NBA. and talent is spread very thin. so some nights you will have really bad teams beating very good teams. means nothing. alot of games are closer than they should be. thats why you have the playoffs. because in a 4 game series against the celtics or lakers or magic the kings would get swept by an average of 30 points a game. no questions. we need a floor leader, we dont have one. we need a competant coach, we dont have one. and we'll continue to suffer until the office stops making dumb decisions. im beginning to think this is blatant

these games arent as close as you think. we dont have a clutch player or an effective game plan and it shows every night we play. if we did, alot of our 5-6 point losses would be wins. so teams toy with us. (the good ones anyway)
