Thornton should watch this Thunder-Spurs series

Harden and Ginobili's games says more than any coach could advise for a good player to play from the bench. If Thornton decides to our 6th Man, he'll boost this team's playoff chances next season.

The difference is that Harden and Ginobli are bettter players than the SG's that start.... if anything they are a good case for why Tyreke should come off the bench.

Actually Harden and Ginobili are only better "offensively" than Thabo and Danny, which why Reke should be the starter. And Thornton doesn't have to replace Reke, he just needs to learn how Manu and Harden controls the game when to come in. Those guys play both PG and SG off the bench. Thornton can learn a thing or two from those guys.

Thornton won't and doesn't have the ability to be a ginobili or Harden off the bench. He should watch Terry on the Mavs, or even Crawford off the Hawks bench before. Just go and score and run a play every once in a while.

I disagree with both of you, respectfully.:D

MT's game isn't anything like Hardens or Manu's. Try Jason Terry, Mayo or Jamal Crawford. Harden has AS talent as a SG/SF, and can break down defenses and get to the rim or create. Also pretty good defender. Manu does the same from the SG spot, where has been an AS multiple times. MT is a tweener scorer, who's far worse than either defensively, and doesn't have near the all around game. Those two create with the ball in their hands for themselves or others.

Also, those two can afford to come off the bench because the starting units are phenomenal on the defensive end. That gives them the luxury of bringing them off the bench. Recommending bringing Reke off the bench is ridiculous with this roster given he's arguably our best and most versatile perimeter defender, we are by far the worst defensive team in large part because of the IT/MT backcourt, and our backcourt gets abused on that end, whereas the SA's and OKC's, are once again, part of the best defensive units in the league.

There's another issue as well, in that those teams have a clear hierarchy. It's Parker/Duncan or Westbrook/Durant, and everyone else around them are defensive role players, and at least one can hit the corner 3. Bringing Harden/Manu off the bench is in part a strategy to not have those two step on the toes of the two main options. Both coaches have talked openly about this, in Pop and Brooks.

Us? We have a free for all every trip down the court where coach is yelling at everyone to just run and shoot, with no defined roles, impotent defense, and a coach who has no understanding of a proper sub pattern.

I don't know if Marcus Thornton was watching the game but Jimmer Fredette confirmed he was. His tweet was read in post-game along the lines of, "fun game to watch these two great teams." Barkley then interjected that Jimmer, "better be up at Tahoe soon (for golf) so I can beat somebody." TNT also put up a tweet from Ricky Rubio saying he wasn't watching the game but was at airport waiting to pick up his brother. Rickyo sent along pic of himself stretched out in an empty baggage carrosel.

Actually that's a good point. Tyreke can be the primary ball handler and scorer of the bench. Jimmer/Reke could do some damage off each other.
Then in the final minutes when teams usually go smaller anyway, you can play Reke at the 3.

Tyreke doesn't have the healthiest legs in the world. I won't try it now because it's a waste of potential talent, but I could see him long term as a <30 mpg off the bench all-star.

Even when Harden's playing behind Durant, he's more of a PG than an SF.

The entire Kings team and coaching staff should be watching this series to see how SA runs a pick and roll clinic. There's a lot to learn from watching and re-watching these games.
