Thomas Robinson NCAA Tournament Video

For those who haven't seen TRob played in a game setting and are curious, I've put together the game footage of the NCAA final between Kansas and Kentucky. This is not a highlight film, it includes almost every possession that involves TRob and it shows his highlight as well as his lowlight. I'll try to put together the Kansas - Ohio St. game if I have time.

Robinson wears blue #0.

First Half:

Second Half:

Btw, sorry for the wavy picture, must be the convertion software.

Not his best game shooting wise, but it is important to remember that he was facing arguably the best front court in college basketball history in Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist, and Jones.

One thing I really like about Robinson is his ability to get to the basket. He is extremely quick for a PF, and has good coordination and ball-handling skills to go along with that quickness. I imagine this aspect of his game will benefit from better floor spacing in the NBA, as well.

edit: Thanks for going to the trouble to edit and upload this.

Yeah, Robinson was pretty efficient this past season shooting around 50% from the floor. He averaged 13 shots a game for 17 Pts a game. As you said, Kentucky was the best defensive team in college basketball, and he was being mostly guarded by T. Jones, who is a very good defensive player. What T.Rob has going for him, is his quickness and his energizier bunny motor. He's rough around the edges in places, but he'll improve. I think you could see that on the occasions he was isolated on MKG defensively, he was able to stay in front of him. Which is one of the reasons I think he could guard SF's in the NBA.

His handle is good in straight line dribble, and his post game needs refinement just as his jumpshot needs to become more consistent. In a year or two, he could be one of the best PF's in the league. He needs to stop gambling on defense, which he did throughout the past season. For every steal you get, you end up giving up 3 easy baskets. Just not worth it! I can't wait to see how he develops now that his entire focus will be on improving his game.

Here is the Final Four game (Kansas vs Ohio St). Thomas Robinson in white #0. He mostly guards Deshaun Thomas (Red #1), a 6'-7 perimeter player.

TRob has 18 pts 8 Rebs 0 Assists 1 steal 0 block, on 8-18 FG and 3-6 FT.

Had a lot of trouble with that length.

I will again say though that Robinson's star prospects are not truly critical for us. He struggled to finish as the keyed upon big guy in that championship game, but on our team he should be much more of a move off the ball and exploit the opening caused by Cousins' dominance sort of guy. Give him relatively free runs at the hoop and I'm confident his efficiency should shoot up.

Not the best shooting game, but you have to remember that he was essentially going 1 on 2 against Jones/Davis, with Davis there waiting for him everytime he put up a shot against Jones.

This is the life of a star, just ask DeMarcus and Tyreke.

But I will say this one more time in an effort to deflate the TRob as star or bust balloon -- he does not need to be a star on our team. Maybe one day he is good enough to beat NBA length and double teams inside. But he doesn't have to be. The man he will be playing next to will be the guy drawing those things for the next 15 years. TRob just has to efficiently play off him and try to keep his own man interested. Two weapons will really help any player do that -- athelticism, and a deadly jumper. TRob's got one of the two and should get a lot of free gallops to the basket as Boogie draws a crowd. Numbers say the jumper is not there yet, but as with anybody the jumper is a thing that many guys can develop later in their career than many other skills.

Yeah I think if he rebound, finish and hit the open shots, he will be an instant upgrade.

Here's the last one I'll do. It's Kansas vs Baylor. TRob spend of the time guarding Perry Jones and other times on Quincy Miller. He has 27 pts and 14 rebs in the game.

Robinson faced so much defensive pressure last season, he's going to love playing next to DMC and getting his buckets off screens and pick and rolls.
