The Vivek thread (split)

:rolleyes:I don't get all of the hate/criticism of Vivek. First of all, the guy has deep pockets, and is willing to spend on the team. Instantly better than the previous owners.

Further, an owner's primary responsibility IMO is not "great leadership personality" but getting people in the right positions to succeed.

Does he deserve criticism? Of course. Hiring of prior GM? Awful. Even though the fans were were more often than not optimistic about the hiring in the first place. Firing of Malone? Terrible. Easily his biggest dent.

McLemore? Hasn't worked out so far and may never for the Kings. However of the 53 players taken after him in that draft, exactly one has become a star in my estimation. Michael Carter Williams, who is a far cry from an all-around good player.

Karl hiring? Not looking good. Yet fans were nearly unanimously ecstatic about the hiring. People also seemed to be thrilled when Vlade was chosen as the new GM.

I think he's mostly picked on because of his small physical stature, hence the girl's basketball references. But oh well, few if any are going to listen/agree. Go Kings.

I don't think that at the time Ben was a bad pick (I liked the pick at the time) but here is a partial list of decent to good to star-potential players taken after Ben:

10. CJ McCollum
11. MCW
12. Steven Adams
15. Giannis
17. Schroeder
21. Gorguy Dieng
22. Mason Plumlee
27. Rudy Gobert
(left out KCP and Snell)

I think there is no way around Vivek being a meddling owner at first, and he made some very bad calls... but since he hired Vlade- which everybody likes, and it seems like he stopped getting in the way and gave Vlade the reins, I doubt he is the problem and I think that Karl is much more to blame about the situation we are in right now (which isn't that bad since it looks like the west isn't as tough this year).
