The Unofficial Official start Jason Thompson Thread

Also makes it easier for a more "attractive" franchise to make an offer...

Thats assuming that number one. They have the money under the cap to do so. Particularly if they install a hard cap. I'm still sceptical it will happen, but if it does, some of the top teams will have more problems than trying to sign more freeagents. You'll notice that a lot of the signings around the league for support type players were only for one year. As a result of recent moves, the Kings will be one of just a few teams with significant money under the cap. In other words, with a new CBA and a hard cap, it could become a buyers market. Some teams might be looking for other teams with the cap space to take on salary with nothing in return, just so they can get under the cap.

All speculation at this point. But if it comes to pass, the Kings will be in terrific shape to make some major moves. And according to Gavin Maloof, they intend to do just that.

Can't really get any emotion out of the tweet. I wonder how he feels about it. Inside.. he may actually want to get back to pounding on second stringers to boost his pay this offseason.

I don't know. A cut-and-paste like that would suggest to me that he's pretty darn unhappy. Otherwise, he'd probably say something on the lines of "movn 2 6th man role, hopn 2 jmpstrt ths team. go kings!" "According to Coach Paul Westphal" is kind of passive-aggressive.

probably his way of saying he learned of the change via jjones twitter, which sucks for him.

I'm happy with this move, but at the same time, I'm getting a bit weary of Westphal's doubletalk, reneging on the things he says just days after stating them publicly. Like only starting JT temporarily and liking Landry as a starter for example. Or him liking JT at SF, then refusing to play him against the Bulls the other night when they threw a SF at the 4. The Donte Will He or Won't He Debacle. How do you maintain order on a team when you as the coach refuse to establish any?

This is going to be an interesting thread.

Wow do KF's have a serious man-crush on the potential of JT.
I didn't see the last 2 games other than JT sucking in the 4th qtr against the Bulls (which KF will explain away and forgive, of course as always) but it truly amazes me how little this guy has to do to warrant complete adulation on these boards. Every other King, it seems, gets their rightful amount of complaints, but JT's endless mistakes are constantly written off.

But you know what?
I hope JT DOES start, so that he can get his fair share of blame when and if the Kings still play badly as a team when he is on the floor.
It's a no-lose proposition for me, since IF the Kings start playing better with him as a starter and he presumably starts playing up to his potential I'll be happy for him and the Kings. He is a great kid, personally.

But IF he keeps making boneheaded mistakes and the Kings don't suddenly start playing better, I expect you all to crucify him for his mistakes and the team failures when he is on the floor like you have done Landry, or you prove yourselves to be hypocrites.
And if JT plays good on a consistent basis (let's say, 4 games in a row like Landry did) than I'll say I was wrong.
Deal?

You are totally related to Landry arnt you? :p

I dont think any of us expect JT to give us 18/9/4 a night. But as has been stated numerous times before, he is a more complete player than Landry. He rebounds, plays D, and passes. He isnt nearly as offensively capable, but he produces in plenty of other ways that Landry simply doesnt. Also, I've seen Landry make just as many dumb plays as JT recently.

I might constantly hate on Landry, but my issues with him are really how he is used (and that is more on Westphal). I really, really hate him as a starter. He is a blackhole and doesnt get on the defensive glass. Off the bench, his knack as a scorer and ability to get those hustle O-boards would be welcome. We'll see how this goes. Although, knowing Westphal, if Landry does great in his new role off the bench he'll probably be made a starter again. Gotta love our Coach.
