"The Sports Guy: The Christies"

Anyone else seen this? The Sports Guy is an ESPN Motion cartoon, and the most recent one (i think) is them making fun of the Christies and their relationship...I think it's mean and uncalled for, but they ARE the media, what do we expect.

Just wanted to know everyone elses thoughts on this (although if you havn't seen it yet, don't go out of your way to watch it just to let me know what you thought...)

The Sports Guy is a real columnist for ESPN Page 2 and ESPN the Magazine and a former writer for Jimmy Kimmel's show. His name is Bill Simmons and he is a great writer. He has somewhat of a cult following since his articles are usually very funny, witty, and original. He knows a ton about sports and since I can remember he has always had a thing for knocking the Christie's, which if you ask anyone that reads his stuff on a regular basis is usually great stuff. I've always been a Doug Christie fan, but I have always thought that his comments about them have been pretty funny.

You can't be mad about this kind of stuff. DC is a good guy, but you can't really defend his relationship as normal. It's like anything in politics- you just have to laugh it off and not take it personal when someone takes potshots like that, it just comes with the territory.

When Doug was on the Kings, there were numerous discussions here about his relationship with Jackies and they invariably got very heated. I always took the position that none of us have the right to decide how Doug and Jackie should live their lives.

Now, he's not only NOT on the Kings, he might not even be in the NBA come fall. I think Bill Simmons took a cheap shot, much as Voisin would always find a way to take a shot at Webber.

Given that I have pilloried the Christie's relationship myself, who am I to judge. And they have made it very public, going so far as to threaten us with a reality TV show to celebrate the weirdness, so just a shrug.

If 10 years from now Doug still hasn't wised up and is walking around on a leash held by Jackie in obscure retirement somewhere in the boonies, sure, it will be a cheap shot. As it is, the relationship has been a problem for numerous teams and individuals, its been public (and intentional so by the Christie's), its been controversial, so this is to be expected.

Doug is my favorite player, but i still found humor in that cartoon.
As for Doug being whipped, i think he just has a good relationship with his wife and doesn't have a golddigger relationship with her, so he gets characterized as a girlie man.

A "good relationship with your wife" does not include her tailing the team bus to make sure you do not cheat and following you around everywhere to make sure you don't talk to women or flirt with reporters. But we've had that discussion before.

All I have to say about that relationship can be summed up in this quote from Jackie Christie herself: "Roses are red, violets are blue, if you look at another girl, I will beat you."

No, its not a joke. She did actually say that.

From a rumor I heard awhile ago, the reason she's like that is she CAUGHT him cheating once. They worked on it and the result is their current relationship. (it sure would explain a lot)

That one I hadn't heard, that is too funny.

When we have hundreds of celebrities like Michael Jackson, Pamela Anderson, Dennis Rodman, and Magic Johnson, why would anyone comment on Doug Christie's relationship with his wife? I don't get it.

I can't begin to understand the Christies relationship, because I can't imagine feeling like I have to follow my husband around to keep him faithful. But, I can't imagine having a husband followed around by basketball groupies after he's cheated on me once either, so whatever. I think she's a little bit crazy, but is she any crazier than the basketball wives who stay at home while their husbands go around sleeping with all their fans? I remember watching a special on basketball groupies (the serious ones, who have boyfriends on all the teams), and they estimated that 95% of the guys cheat on their wives. Real numbers? Who knows, but you know the temptation is always there? Being an NBA wife would obviously have it's perks, but I don't think it's an easy life.

95% seems a little unreasonable. That is a pretty big number to throw out there. If its coming from the groupies, I don't believe it. I'd like to hear it from someone inside the basketball organization. Sounds like these girls like want to pump up there slut status.
