This is the only way for us to stick it to the Maloofs. Don't financially support the lying owners that DO NOT WANT TO BE IN OUR CITY.

We're all upset and frustrated, but unfortunately boycotting won't help anything. A mass boycott, which very likely would never happen, could just increase the Maloofs possibility for relocation. Right now the fans support the team enough to prevent the NBA from really allowing any relocation happen. As Stern said, Sacramento stepped up. I think there are really only two good possibilities that could happen after this. One, the Sacramento and its fans continue to support the Kings as we have and stand ground on our final arena proposal. The NBA couldn't blame Sacramento really because they know the deal if fair. Thus, the Maloofs stay in Sacramento and continue to lose money until they sell the team. Two, the Maloofs formally agree to the arena deal that is on the table.

Boycott

I totally agree, these guys don't deserve any more of my money. The fans and the city have been through way to much.

I think a brown out would be more of a statement. Brown paper bags on our heads at the games. Maybe white tshirts with "maloof" surrounded by a circle with a line across would be good too.

I'm torn between boycotting and supporting. IF the kings are definitely leaving Sacramento, do we want to be remembered as the fans that aided in their leaving by boycotting, or supporting them until their final day. I personally think the NBA would never allow the Sfoolam to leave if the fans keep supporting this team. Boycotting would just allow the Sfoolam to say "See, I told you so."

There is a danger here, called the "George Shinn".

George appears to be a bad name for smarmy scumbags who own basketball teams. The George who is a Shinn owned the Charlotte Hornets, but by basically being a complete scumbag himself the entire communtity turned on him and quit going to games. Result? George was allowed to plead hardship and take his team to New Orleans, before eventually finally admitting the truth, that he was too broke to own an NBA franchise -- hence the team ended up in NBA hands and just got resold here this week. In the meantime the NBA remembers how good the Charlotte fans used to be in the 90s, and awards them an expansion team as a replacement. But you can't go back, its not the same, and its an expansion team and of course has always been bad, hence no fans.

If Sacto fans take the same approach, and disappear en masse due to the Maloofs' scumbaggery, the same thing could happen, except the NBA has said its not interested in expanding again anytime soon, there are no other teams available, and even if there were Kings fans will absolutely eat their heart out watching one of the greatest centers of his generation tearing teams up, a center they had waited 25 years to get, and now they are right back to the beginnnign again.

The Kings are leaving whether or not fans support the team. It's really that simple. Arco is inadequate, and the Maloofs will continue to hemorrhage money. They will want a new arena funded entirely by the city while keeping a majority of the profits, which will not happen.

Seattle supported the team until the final days, and look what happened.

Anybody think the Maloofs have the guts to show up at a Kings game?

If they do, you guys NEED to explain their mistake to them. A boycott could be a self inflicted wound. But chasing those ****s out of the arena anytime they dare show their face would not. What would the Maloofs claim to the BOG? We want to move because they don't like us anymore?

No Seattle did not. Much different situation. Seattle defied Stern's attempts to get a new arena in place, it got personal and nasty. They went to war with the NBA, so the NBA had no problem takign their team.

On the other hand the NBA is very much in Sacto's corner on this one so far. Its the Maloofs who have defeied the NBA/Stern.

The fans supported the team despite the situation. I think KJ has made it clear the city council is no longer willing to negotiate with the Maloofs. Would the BoG view this as an act of defiance?

This thread was opened, then locked, then opened again. I think that it shows from the bottom up, we are all confused on how to handle the current situation.

I think it was opened to engage in a very real conversation about the Maloofs, who have now put their cards on the table. It's pretty clear that THEY don't want Sacramento. Sacramento, according to Stern, has done everything it had to in order to keep the team. The city did its job. The fans did their job. It's all on the Maloofs.

Opening it up to talk about logical strategies and reasons why a boycott isn't a good idea was probably the thinking. If there was a way I could support the team and not the Maloofs, I'd be all for it. I do think it's a last ditch effort by the Maloofs. To me, this is no longer about DMC throwing a fit, Evans not averaging a triple double, or some other day to day nonsense. It's about a petty family realizing they just lost at the poker table and threatening to take their ball and go home.

Whatever I can do to keep the team I grew up watching in the town that rightfully deserves to keep them needs to be the issue. I'm sure everyone who usually disagrees with me about gametime strategies and substitution decisions will agree with me on this one. We do need to unite - but we need to be clear of what the goal is. Keep the Kings, support the Kings, not the Maloofs. How we do that is the next question, and I don't know that a boycott is the answer.

Maybe we keep up attendance but stop buying merchandise. Supports the players and shows the NBA the fans will support the team, but keeps money out of the Maloofs pocket.

i refuse to boycott my own team. absolutely refuse. they are my sacramento kings until they are not, and i will support them until that day comes, if not beyond. the fans involvement in this process is vastly overstated, at this point. our continued support when the maloofs attempted to relocate to anaheim last year was a show of good faith on behalf of the city of sacramento, but this thing has now turned completely political. it is a game of pressure and time, a veritable staring contest. who will blink first? i have no idea, but the fans should be in the building, regardless. otherwise, there's no reason whatsoever for relocation committees to remain in sacramento's corner. things were ugly before, but they're even uglier now. its the wrong time to abandon this team...

No, no, no.

Fill the arena up and if the Maloofs' own brain fails them and they show up at the arena, forget about the game and just boo the living bejesus out of them.

Start chants, boo them...make them feel like ****.

But, by not arriving to games, you're essentially shooting yourself in the foot and giving them a reason to move.

I can hear it already "SELL THE KINGS! SELL THE KINGS! SELL THE KINGS!"

Sounds like this is the route the Maloofs are almost hoping people take, how could they not? This post needs to be put on a billboard in Sac as a cautionary tale.

I feel for you guys. It makes me appreciate the ownership of the Jazz that much more. I don't think the other owners will support the Maloofs if the fans are still coming and the city hasn't backed out of their handshake deal.

Attend games. But bring rotten fruit just in case the Maloofs are brazen enough to show.

I'm in full agreement with this. Arguing over the details of basketball is what fans do. It's not because we hate each other, it's because we're passionate about this great pastime that we have in common. A lot of information has come out today that clears the air on what is actually taking place. The NBA and the city of Sacramento have negotiated a plan for a new arena that everyone involved feels is in the best interest of both parties. It was believed, up until about a week ago, that the Maloofs were completely on board with this plan of action, but they've made it abundantly clear now that they are not. I'm open to arguments about what the next best course of action is for us, the fans. My feeling at this point is that a boycott of the games is not going to be constructive towards our eventual goal of keeping the team in Sacramento.

in a similar vein: pick a date next year when the Kings are on National Television (or even just NBATV) pack the arena up and do everything possible to make it clear you support the Kings and hate the Maloofs (chants, signs, whatever). draw as much media attention as possible to this. if the Maloofs want the publicity associated with owning an NBA team, make it notoriety.

I think you mean infamy. And I agree! :)

I mentioned this in the other thread, but since this one is about a boycott I'll toss my thoughts out here.

I think the absolute worst thing that can happen is attendance to shrink to nothing, thereby giving the Maloofs the support they need to turn to the Relocation Committee to justify their desire to move. As long as attendance is good I don't think they will be allowed to leave, especially when you consider what the City just did to try and get a deal made.

However, I also am partial to a boycott of the Maloofs to show the fan's displeasure over what has taken place.

So here is what I think should happen.

I believe that someone should organize as complete a boycott as possible for a single game.
Make a lot of noise, make the failure of the Maloofs as owners the central theme and black-out a single game.

It makes the statement that needs to be made, with-out giving the Maloofs the ammo they need to say that the City of Sacramento is unable to viably support an NBA franchise.

I also think that anything that can be done to erode the Maloofs financially should be considered. People should reach out to sponsers of other MSE events and ask them to withdraw their support.

You need to do all you can to make life difficult for the Maloofs with-out giving them things they can use against you when they go to the Relocation board. So make a huge deal by boycotting a single game, protest and get as much attention as you can. Then after that game, try to pack the place to show the community support for an NBA team, so when the Maloofs try to convince the relocation board to move, they can't point to the fans as a reason for wanting to move.

This sounds like a plan. If they try to do another blackout, the entire arena should wear white instead. Anything to ruin the Maloof's day

Damn y did I get suckered into putting down 20% for next year. Sux.

Don't boycott the games. Boycott the team store. Don't buy the overpriced jerseys and souvenirs. Cheer your heart out for the team but should the owners make the mistake of showing up, greet them with stony silence. Maybe have signs that say, "If you can't say anything nice..." There are ways to show the NBA that we still support the game and the team but leave no doubt in anyone's mind that we are over the Maloofs;

What if the only merchandise we bought from this point on was the black jerseys that say "Honor"

eh, ironic, but pointless. Maloofs don't know what that word means anyway. Probably think we included him in the Webber trade or something.
