The ongoing saga of Kings injuries

#3
I tore my labrum. After doing any overhead activity with my arm - I’d be in crippling pain the next day. The surgery to repair it is no fun. I haven’t tried PRP because it’s expensive. Good luck R Holmes - but i doubt we see him again this year.

Grant: holmes was diagnosed correctly by a specialist.

Said that holmes injured his shoulder again in practice. He said the fans have no right to know what the injuries are.

The kings are not run by a bunch of clowns. Grants words.

Grant has no idea why the fans are so outraged.

Both guys are hurt. Both guys are out and thats just the way it is.

Bags and Holmes both went to multiple specialists and then the kings training staff decided on treatment.

I understand to a degree the frustration of the fans. He thinks the questioning of the training staff is just the fans trashing the franchise.

Talking about Pete Youngman and how much he respects him. Its a misnomer that the kings have a bunch of misfits in charge of physical development/rehabilitaion
They came to the kings with plenty of experience and recommendations.

Grant said Pete left on his own accord. Again, the kings are not being run by a bunch of idiots folks. Again, grants words.

This is all utter nonsense. Grant feels bad for the trainers because they are being utterly slandered.

Going to commercial.

Thanks for doing the summaries. ;)

As far as Pete leaving of his own accord? That's crap. Grant was called out about this on Twitter a while back. Pete has commented on it.

Grant is taking the heat (or trying to) while the organization scrambles to try and find a response the fans will actually believe. I just posted a bunch of tweets in the Youngman thread. This is not gonna go away soon...and Grant isn't gonna shout down the outrage. Fans have every right to feel as though they're being patted on the head and told not to worry.

It really sucks that they continue to withhold information from us like this. I really will never understand it

If anything, they should be over extending themselves and reassuring the fans every second, but I’ve yet to hear much from Vivek at all or even Vlade. This season has been an absolute s-show

I personally don't expect either Vivek or Vlade to be the ones telling the fans about the current medical status of players.

I'm really conflicted about this. I don't think fans have the right to every little bit of information but I do think when the organization puts out something, fans should be able to rely on it as fact - and I don't think that's been the case.

I make no secret of my disdain for MK and her minions. I think whatever blame is to be assessed should be pointed in her/their direction. This is a big mess. I thank Pete Youngman for speaking out. If he had not, I truly wonder how much longer they would have attempted to keep things under wrap. There are people in the organization I think are trustworthy. Pete was one of them. Things had to get pretty bad for Pete to go as public as he did when he did...

Im not sure I totally understand why there would be an outrage over lack of transparency. Players don’t surrender all privacy in their medical history just because fans want to know. If the medical staff is misdiagnosing injuries, I would imagine we would have heard something from Bagley or Holmes or their respective representatives. But that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Also, I wonder what would the org gain by hiding injuries? The only thing I could possibly think of, and this is pure speculation, would be to increase ticket sales and interest in the team.

It's not the injury per se but the time frames given for their return.

I don’t entirely disagree but I think fans feel like the initial descriptions of the injuries are vague and/or downplayed, leading to expectations that the player affected will be back soon. Then, later “updates” are published that extend the timetable for return by a significant amount (weeks, in some cases). The repeated pattern of such this season seems odd to many and creates confusion (and perhaps misperceptions) among the fan base.

He said the fans have no right to know what the injuries are.
What a crock. We are the paying customers that make these folks household names and millionaires. We have every right to know what the injuries are when it 100% affects how we lend our support and spend our time and money on the team.

We are paying the Kings for a service, which is entertainment. If they can't provide that entertainment because certain players can't see the floor, then we need to know about it before we spend the money on something that they damn well know they can't provide.

It's crazy how dumb Grant and the FO think we are as fans.

There are two especially weak and vulnerable joints in the human body. The shoulder and the knee.
Kings players suffer with both.
One of the reasons the FO doesn't tell the world about injuries is trade value.
They don't want everyone to know the extent of the injuries. That is just good business.

I have no issue with the injuries. Those happen. Yeah, it sucks, but what can you do.

It’s the clear lack of transparency dating back to last year (LOL “Thigh Bruise”) that has people so upset.

Also; why/how did Bagley play before re-aggravating his injury? Why/how did Holmes practice on a torn freakin’ labrum?
Exactly. None of it makes sense!

If it's so savvy, why don't all teams operate this way, or in fact the Kings before last year? I'm going with Occam's Razor that it's the same lack of competence they display in nearly every facet of the organization.

This shell game crap is a sign of either someone screwed up, or an organization that doesn't respect its fans but needs their support, and money... so they string you out. Just sayin.

Yep I agree this is all baffling. As Slab said how did Bagley play on his injury while Holmes practiced with a torn labrum????
So I think people need to realize the training/medical staff doesn't make the press releases. They tell the team who makes the decisions on what to say.

They diagnosed Holmes tear right after it happened. They went the rest/PT route instead of surgery hoping it would get better. It didn't respond well after practicing.

Bagley is the confusing one. He kicked himself in the foot during the Utah game. Played the Miami game then went to a specialist between Miami and Detroit. Came back in a boot. He wasn't limping or showing any signs of an injury after the Miami game, it just hurt.

Unless he needs the foot immobilized for a tear or other structural damage wearing the boot doesn't make sense. His foot will only continue to atrophy while being in the boot.

He can take the boot off and do light excercises and stretches to prevent atrophy.

Exactly.

When fans are making a decision to purchase overpriced tickets to a game, or even spend valuable time watching on TV, they deserve to know what they’re gonna get in return for their investment.

Every single sports league has become ridiculous in charging premium prices in situations where the ‘A‘ list actors aren’t even appearing in the film, so-to-speak. It’s classic bait and switch.

The reason these leagues are generating so much ticket and tv revenue is due to the overwhelming fan demand to see the marquee teams and/or marquee players of said team.

Nobody cares about preseason games where the ‘B‘ players star. Nobody cares about regular season games where the ‘A‘ players are MIA or only make cameo appearances.

The fact they get away with charging premium prices w/o delivering what is advertised is criminal IMO.

I get that freak accidents and injuries can often be unavoidable. And certainly not predicted. However, not communicating to fans what’s going on and not setting expectations about what they will receive in return for their time and money is unacceptable. They’re purposely misleading fans who might otherwise forgo doing business with them.

Furthermore, resting healthy players in a game fans bought tickets to months, weeks or even days before shouldn‘t be permitted to happen. It’s criminal too. If these players need more time off and can’t play 82, they need to reduce the number of games in a season to a more acceptable amount. Why should the fans have to pay the price?

We need a “lemon law” implemented for professional sports leagues.

Completely agree. This is a Mickey Mouse organization from top to bottom—and they think we’re all just a bunch of rubes. We saved the team and built the, at worst, second best building in the league, and this is how the ownership group repays that dedication, financial investment, and good faith from the city and fans. Unreal.

Vivek needs to sell to someone who has the liquidity to run the team as they see fit. This team is operating like a cash-strapped franchise, which indicates that Vivek’s bumbling decisions have come home to roost, and other owners are refusing additional cash calls to pay off more of Vivek’s terrible choices.
