If we make no trades which wouldn't surprise me...wake me up in 2010.
I miss ron ron.
If they played with heart, put 100% effort and played the rookies, I wouldn't mind the losing, but the way they are losing there is just no words to describe it. If I had known they would be playing like this, I woulnd't have bought any Kings tickets.Just about everyone on this board has said they want to tank the season and get a good draft pick. Well here you go. Why is everyone crying.
Huh?
This is the same roster that Reggie was using for most of his last 9 months in Sac, a few creaky old Hawks excepted. The coaching may be a bit worse, but we can still count on our vet Mikki to play 12.5 minutes and get 1 rebound, 1 assist and zero points.
Last night we sucked with 2 vets out, and eked out an overtime win against a very weak team. Tonight we had one of those vets back - who contributed 4 points on 2-7 shooting, 1 reb, 1 asst, 3 TO and 5 PF in 23.5 minutes- and lost by 48 to a much better team. We would have lost by 50+, but for the last minute threes chucked by Quincy freakin' Douby.
So what's the point here? We ARE getting whipped with or without the vets, but without the vets we might get better. With the vets we get nothing but older.
And at least we get to see JT play now. Without him, there's really no reason to watch at all.
I'll gladly watch us get whipped with JT instead of whipped with K-9 and Mikki.
Are you on drugs?that 48 point thumping by the suns felt good. it was like getting the cheeks numbed at the dentist. I couldn't help but laugh after the first quarter. my buddies were had bets on how much we would lose by. I said 60. kings nation... let's be optimistic here and shoot for the worst loss of the season. I wanna see a 80 point loss. we have like 20 something games left to make it happen! go kings!!!!!!!!!!
It wasnt that long ago that Kings fans were considered best in the NBA, how fast things change.I am so tired of Sactown fair weather fans man. everywhere i go people are hating on the Kings. everyone wanted to rebuild. we are starting to do that now people want to rebuild while in the playoffs. it doesnt make since, rebuilding = lots of losses. its not easy on the eyes/heart. once they are back to the glory days all the haters will return. so wack.

I heard a caller into KHTK at bit earlier that made probably an obvious point that Kings have worst roster in the NBA - by far he said. I got to thinking that it's true. I mean the "competition," OKCity, Minnesota, Washington, LA Clippers, Memphis, Golden State, all would seem to have better overall talent. Especially younger and more productive talent. !
I think fans have a right to vent. I'm hating on the Kings all the time. But I'm still checking every boxscore to see how Thompson and Hawes did. I'm still following the college stars to see who we may end up with. Kings are still going to be 'my team'.
Its just that since that awful Webber trade it has been fiasco after fiasco from our FO. Webb could have gotten us a young up and comer. He was still a 20/10/5 big, and I believe was a player of the month at the time he was traded. Those 3 'movable pieces' set us back. And then their was Petrie clinging to his dream that a Peja/Miller/Bibby core could be relevant.
...It's like, you have a rotten tooth so you go to the dentist. The dentist just kinda fools around and pulls out a bunch of healthy teeth before finally getting it right and pulling the rotten one. He also doesnt even give you the laughing gas. So you stumble out of his office with your cheeks all swollen and blood pouring out your mouth, cussing about what a horrible job the dentist did and your friend who's there to pick you up says "dont complain, you needed that tooth pulled."

BRAVO! I don't agree with your whole post but did think you hit a nervewith those parts I've quoted!
There is NO SUCH THING as a "true fan." The whole idea is totally absurd on its face.
Fans are people who follow sports teams for a wide variety of reasons. Some want to watch "their team" when they're worth the price of the tickets, win more than they lose, etc. That doesn't make them any less a fan than someone who is there through thick or thin regardless of what happens.
People look for different things from their teams. Some just want a couple of hours of entertainment. They want to be part of the collective group who gets excited at wins. Others go into detail about draft picks, trades, etc.
There are fans who follow the team religiously and those who just buy the jersey, so to speak.
Nobody has to love - or hate - a team. They do what they choose to meet their own needs.
The whole idea of a "true fan" has gotten beyond ridiculous. We are ALL Kings fans. How we define our fandom is up to us. The whole "fair weather" or "true" fan concept is simply without any real relevance.
Be as good a fan as you can be. Right now I wouldn't blame anyone for turning off their TV or turning away from the current fiasco in disgust. If anything, I think the players may actually be surprised anyone is still watching...
There will be some with a higher tolerance for pain (or whatever) who stick around through thick and thin. And when things start to improve, we'll welcome those back who just couldn't justify wasting the time or energy to cheer for the uncheerable.
It's not a contest on who is the best fan. Never was and never should be.

Even as Peja faded and Miller and Bibby dogged it on the court. Honestly, even though it turned out bad, the Peja for Artest trade was one of the only smart moves our FO has made recently. And that wasnt even Petrie! That was forced by the Maloofs! The latter half of that season, where we went from a lotto team to a team nobody wanted to face in the first round was the most magic since the golden years. And that was all Ron Ron fueled, as much as nobody wants to admit it.
Then we didnt resign Rick. Granted at the time it seemed like he had lost his players (mostly the vets)...But at that point we should have moved Bibby/Miller. Not the coach.
Petrie just sits on his hands until players lose all trade value. If we blew it up during the Muss season we could have gotten a lot more then D-league quality rookies for Artest and Bibby.
Then there has just been questionable signing after questionable signing.
Moore is a stiff, Beno is a scrub, and Salmons is a cancer. With more thoughtful scouting our FO should have known all of that. There were questions on Beno's work ethic, and Salmons attitude before we signed them, and honestly Mikki's stats should have spoken for themselves.
The revolving door of coaches is frustrating as well. Reggie was F'n up at the start of the season, but a month in he was doing his job. Youth were getting major minutes, and even though we were losing, we played with heart and stayed competitive. That was a major theme in game threads early on; 'we suck. But we have heart.'
Then Reggie was fired. We got Natt. Hawe's minutes shrunk to garbage time. Bobby Brown was getting DNP-CD, and Greene was sent down to D-League. What do we see now? Smallball, players dogging it, and 3 quarters of garbage time per game. I honestly wonder what Natt assisted Sloan with over in Utah. Probably getting him coffee or something.
The FO messed up again with the firing of Theus. They know it. And now they're trying to cover their **** by saying they 'locked him up for an extension!'. Like he needs locking up. Its like they're (the FO) trying to trick the common fan into thinking he's a good coach with that move. Insulting.
Yes it is a rebuild. But it didnt have to be this painful. We could have been in the Oden AND Rose sweepstakes. Instead we're in the 'worst draft in the past 6 years' sweepstakes. At least we'll be a top 3 lock again next season.

The expression "true fan" is primarily useful for picking fights, but not much other than that. Don't believe me? Tell me to my face that I'm not a "true fan," because I'm critical of the team, and see if you don't have a fight on your hands.
I suppose that it may also provide the supplementary effect of allowing some fans to look down their noses at other fans...
This will be Petrie's obituary unless he's able to turn things around. Very nicely summaraized.
The Webber trade represented an opportunity. Not sure the Kings could have gotten a better deal under the circumstances (I think everyone knew that despite the stats he was essentially done), but it should have been the start. The Shareef signing was fine at the time (the price was right), and the Bonzi trade was savvy. But once it became apparent that Bibby/Peja/Miller weren't going anywhere as a core, that's when the fire sale should have happened. Everything should have been blown up around Bonzi's, Skinner's and Corliss' expiring contracts. Free agency, draft, etc.
The Artest trade was the crucial move that perpetuated the mediocrity. It was good on the face, not good in terms of rejuvenating the franchise, and I wonder if the Maloofs foiled Petrie's rebuilding plans. It essentially forestalled any rebuilding (because there was no sense in rebuilding around Artest), and postponed the true reckoning. Now that rebuilding has finally begun we got essentially nothing for Bibby and are soon to get nothing for Miller.
This pill would be so much easier to swallow if the rebuild had been swift. But whether it's Petrie or the Maloofs or whatever, the dithering and lack of direction has been just miserable for the fans.
