The Official Keep DeMarcus and Tyreke Petition Thread

And yet the national media is the first to salivate when thinking up (bigger market) landing spots for the guy. Those who can't see the connection seem to be missing the bigger picture. (Not you - in general.)

yea, i get a kick out of that. KINGS MOST RID THEMSELVES OF COUSINS!!! HE WILL DESTROY THEIR FRANCHISE!!!! They should trade him to (insert perennial playoff team here)

Yeah, funny how that works. "He's a cancer to your young, struggling team but he'll be a major force on our veteran, contending team"

If that's the case, isn't the better plan to improve the talent level of the Kings and let them mature together?

Or is that too logical?

I choose to have complete faith in our new ownership and coach. Whatever they think about keeping our present personnel is fine with me. Good luck Ranadive and Malone.

DMC is clearly "broke." Is he able to be "fixed?" Well, that is just the question. But please don't assert that he is not broke.
You should really elaborate after making such a statement, especially when multiple posters ask what you mean.

On the face of it, I think your statement is incredibly ridiculous, but I'd like to at least here your thought process. I did worse things than DMC has publicly at 21/22, as did a number of people I know, and we were not broken, nor did we need fixing. What we needed was maturing.

DMC has to get with the program, if he is gonna be the franchise player of Ranadive's Kings, i want to see 100% effort every night, no more whining after every call, give a crap on defense. Everyone always brings up his numbers, but a great player shows up where the stats don't tell the story (effort, leadership, defense etc.). For example, a Lebron statline of 23 pts 8 reb 7 ast doesn't begin to tell the story of how much he affected the game. In contrast on most good DMC nights 25 pts 13 reb tell the whole story followed by a loss most likely. Meaning he got his, but what else? A good player can get his, a great player gets his, gives lesser players theirs and is able to infect his teammates to another level to create a true team mentality which leads to wins. So far all DMC has proven in his 3 years is that he can get his, and thats it.

A large majority of the incidents that were made public, wouldn't have been made public in a properly run orginization. Usually what happens in a clubhouse, stays in the clubhouse. Also, a smart (god I hate that word now) coach could have helped avoid many of the incidents. There were several times when tempers flared on the court, rightly or wrongly, and Smart left Cousins in the game, knowing that his habit is not to forget quickly, instead of sitting him on the bench to cool for while. These things matter in the larger scheme of things because it only adds to the national public opinion about Cousins.

Thats why officials saw more than what was there when Cousins inadvertently hit (I can't even rememeber who it was anymore) blank player in the groin. For which he was suspended. Did anyone see the play in the last Heat/Pacer game when the Bird man knocked Hansbourgh to the floor. Then after Hansbourgh yelled at him as he was getting up, Anderson bumped him with his chest, and then shoved him. To make it even worse, he fought as the ref tried to restrain him. If that had been Cousins, he would have been kicked out of the game and probably suspended for 2 or 3 games. But Anderson wasn't even kicked out of the game, and so far, no suspension has come down from the league. Don't tell me that there's no double standard.

If you have a player with the potential of Cousins, you do everything you can to protect him. Not only from public criticism, but from himself. If your the coach, and you think your player is being abused on the court, by either the other team, or the refs, then you go out and make your case to the ref's instead of sitting by, picking your nails while Cousins gets in trouble. You protect your player. You can discuss his behavior later in the clubhouse away from the spotlights. This isn't about having a love affair with a player, but about building a winning team. In NBA terms, Cousins is gold, and if there's gold in the ground, you figure out a way to get it, while making the least mess possible. Just because a player is 6'11", is making a ton of money, and looks like a man, doesn't mean he's going to act like a man. That man part comes with life experience, and believe me, its harder when your under a microscope.

I'm sure every parent on this fourm has had his teenage son or daughter talk back to them, maybe even say they hate you when you come down on them. I doubt any of those parents discarded their kids because of it. It comes with the territory, and its hard work sometimes, but in the end, when your kids are successful, its all worth it.

The guy who can make the best case for himself is Cousins. It's why I wanted him to talk to Vivek. DMC is no raving monster unless he is heading for the rim at which point he becomes DFC. He needs "something" and it may be little parts of many things including 1) good ownership, 2) good coaching, 3) a good surrounding cast of players both with their skills and their personal relationships with him, and 4) maybe even a little more respect from the refs. 5) He also needs to learn learn how to handle bad calls, whether perceived or real, as simply part of the game and not a personal attack on him. 6) He has to be treated like a valued cog to what could be a great team and not a freak - this may be the tough one - but this is why I think Vivek chatting with him or tweeting him or however they communicate is so important.

I think items 1), 2), and probably 6) are well on their way. It is up to the FO to accomplish 3). I think Cuz is working on 4) if you watch him chatting with the refs on the court. I also think he has gotten some calls that a year before would have gone against him. 5) is a tough one for him. It requires a little time which could be sped up by the team having a valued veteran to advise him. 6) may be in progress but Vivek's relationship and thereby the coaches relationship is difficult to evaluate as an outsider. I believe what Smart tried to do went overboard and may have simply ended up as the action of a coach dealing with a freak. We don't know Vivek's initial conversations with DMC but I think it is safe to say they are different than the way Smart tried to handle this. It's the difference beteern a guy who is a self made billionaire and a man who may find it difficult to get another meaningful job in the NBA.

I don't want to reduce this to a "please believe me because I know what I am talking about" but "please believe me because I know what I am talking about." It has been my profession and I have raised a now very successful child with similar problems.

You do not give up!!!

Where's that Facebook page? I found Anjali's but not Vivek's. This thread has fallen to hell but I think posting our preferences on Faceback is a good idea. It can't hurt!

This is going to be a good year. Go Kings!

Signed. I want to see how our two main stars do under new and real management/coaching, instead of the Maloof fiasco the past few years.

Vivek just said "first thing i did when the sale was done was call DeMarcus and said lets do something big, and he replied I like the sound of that"

definitely like the vibe from Vivek on Cousins.

That'll get a player's attention RT @itsjonsantiago: Vivek: "I'd like nothing better than a billion Indians to know who DeMarcus Cousins is"

I don't think anyone on the team should be untouchable for the right package. Of the two, Tyreke with a reasonable contract I would value more. I think he can still be a quality starter for a team, at minimum. I don't question Cousins talent but he has other issues that can hinder him and can hinder a team.

I would have no problems if the new staff wants go in another direction in regards to Cousins.

"I'm going to go with him with open arms and accept him because we all know that on any given night he's the most talented big man in the NBA," Malone said. "There aren't many guys out there. You just don't get rid of those guys. He could be and should be the cornerstone of this franchise for years to come. That's my hope."

I am liking this but I would like to see the new ownership come out and express intention of bringing Tyreke Evans back!

I agree. I sure hope the team and new GM puts in the qualifying offer to Tyreke before the June 30th deadline. That way they have the right to match any offer.

Has the new ownership group put in the qualifying offer on Tyreke yet?
