The No-Brainer SAR Deal

Well, it's common knowledge that Brendan Haywood of Washington has asked for a trade, and PF's are truly a dime-a-dozen both on the market and in any scenario involving trading Artest (including Camby). With that said a straight-swap of SAR for Haywood could solve a number of issues for both teams. The Kings clear a logjam and get a big body to cover at C. The Wiz get frontcourt depth and a good platoon partner with Songaila. Thoughts?

If the Kings are going to trade SAR it should be for expirings/draft picks/young players, otherwise I don't really see a need to trade him. His salary is reasonable, low post scoring is good to have, and he's a fine character.

Unless it's part of a rebuilding move, there's no need to give him up for crap.

I'm pretty sure this was already discussed but I just don't have the energy to wade through and find it.

;)

Brendan Haywood? No thanks.

If Haywood wasn't such a jerk, I'd definitely do it. SAR's value is plummeting at this point, and give him another year or two and he'll be as unmoveable as Kenny. I also want no part of his own particular brand of soft passionless "class" -- without pointing a finger directly at SAR I will just note that almost every team he has been a part of has has chemistry issues, so whatever he is doing in the lockerroom isn't worth a whole lot.

That said, Haywood IS a jerk so far as I can tell, and I'd have to feel real confident about the new coach to inflict that on our locker room. If you said here are the two choices: a) keep reef; or b) trade him for Haywood, and there was no no c), I might just do it just to start fresh wiht what should still be a tradeable commodity in a few years (7'0" center). But I think/hope that there are less objectionable characters out there we ca trade SAR for and/or he might be useful as a throwin in a larger multi-player type deal.

I just don't want a player with a whiff of trouble. It's not worth it. I don't even want a young Jason Williams type of trouble or a Chris Webber insubordination to Don Nelson and lying to the grand jury type of trouble. Give me an expiring contract and a pick. Then let Petrie pick someone with no character issues. Then I'm a happy camper. When we're one player away from a championship, then I'll think about compromising my values.;)

Er...we got as close as we did to a title precisely by taking chances of guys who had more than a whiff of trouble to them. Only way to accumlate those talents on the cheap sometimes, and better 55 wins with some shaky guys than 45 with a bunch of polite mediocrity.

But Haywood just isn't that caliber of guy. He's impolite mediocrity.
