The Maloofs hate to loss

Weren't Harris and Dirk draft day trades? Technically not picked by Dallas, but essentially they were I think

Days prior to the draft, the Washington Wizards and Dallas Mavericks consummated a deal that involved the Wizards' 5th overall pick going to the Mavs along with Jerry Stackhouse and Christian Laettner in exchange for Antawn Jamison. NBA rules prevented teams from trading draft picks for two consecutive years (in addition to trade kicker details in Laettner's contract [1]) so the deal was momentarily delayed until the actual draft in which Washington selected Devin Harris and subsequently traded him to the Mavericks to complete the deal.

Diop was signed by the Dallas Mavericks as a free agent on August 19, 2005 to a three-year contract

Jun 24, 1998: Drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1st round (9th overall) in 1998....Dallas Mavericks traded Robert Traylor to the Milwaukee Bucks for the rights to Dirk Nowitzki and Pat Garrity

Projected as a 2nd round pick, Daniels waited for his name to be called. The Mavericks' head coach Don Nelson initially planned on using their 2nd rounder to select Daniels (whom they accidentally discovered while watching game tapes of Josh Howard) but his son Donnie Nelson Jr. convinced him to trade the pick to Denver instead and assured his father that they will get him one way or the other. As the calls started pouring in on Daniels' agent's cellphone (among the callers were Magic head coach Doc Rivers), it was later revealed that they had a gentleman's agreement with the Mavericks that his client would sign with them in the event that he did not get drafted.

So 1 out of 4 in Diop is not bad, totally nailed it. So was Kobe drafted by the lakers or not, officially it might say that he was drafted by a different team but when there is a deal in place to take that draft pick doesnt that imply that the trading team is drafting him in all purpose. Didnt think there were that many people here to not understand that side of it, if you dont have a draft pick at that slot to select someone and if you trade to get that pick that is as good as a draft. it is not like you saw them play for that team for a while and then figure out that he is good, Mavs figured before draft day that these players were good or would fit in their system.

Pfffffff

Erm, sorry to disappoint or disagree, but all the explanations in the world won't correct your mistatement.

Dirk, Josh Howard, Diop, Devin Harris and Marquis Daniels (who was traded ) were drafted by the mavs.

You were wrong. Learn to live with it. We've had to...

I am not sure about that, I am guessing both [Maloofs vs Cuban] have the same kinda money. Maloofs apart from palms also are the largest stock holders in wells fargo which has more than 200 billion in assets.

Mark Cuban is ranked by Forbes as the 428th richest person in the world at $1.8 billion. (A drop in the bucket compared to #6, Paul Allen, at 22 billion.)Not a single Maloof is listed in the top 500.
http://www.forbes.com/billionaires/ Also lists Cuban as the 133rd richest American and again, no Maloofs on the list of 400, on which the lower end persons on the list are at $1 billion.

Can’t compare Cuban and the Mavs to the Maloofs and Kings as far as salary issues. Some reasons why:

Dallas/Ft Worth is the 7th largest media market with a lot more rich residents and corporate presence than Sac at #19. Basically a lot more sources of revenue, besides Cuban's pockets. http://www.proadvance.com/topmediamarkets.html

Cuban controls his entire fortune, while the Maloofs fortune is divided among at least 6 (I think-Mom and 5 sibs). Basically Cuban can do whatever he wants with his money, without having to consult anybody.

Cuban owns 2/3 interest in the Mavs, while I believe the Maloofs own just over ½ of the Kings. I can’t verify the Maloof % for sure, but I seem to remember that from somewhere. The Maloofs have 5 limited partners, I know that.

And if more money made a team better, the Knicks would not have been at the bottom so long. San Antonio does just fine.

As an aside, Texas is an attractive place to players, just like Miami, because there is no state income tax.

Eh they basically did draft Dirk, Howard, and Harris. Daniels was an undrafted FA who might as well have been a 2nd round pick for them. The info was wrong a bit, but he has a point.

?????

It's settled between myself and vladetomiller. I was calling him on a mistatement, nothing more, and kidding him a little in the process.

I'm well aware of the circumstances of each acquisition he mentioned.

What do you expect them to do? Make a public announcement that they are going to rebuild so that (a) the players quit, and (b) other teams refuse to give them anything more than 50 cents on the dollar? Get real. They are not going to make a public announcement until AFTER they make a major move or two.

I think everyone just wants the move NOW before the value of any of our tradeable players dwindles further. Or we could be like the Sixers with AI and announce someone is on the trading block, making it obvious they're in rebuild mode. At least that would make for exciting trade rumors :D

Oh good. Another entry for my KF oxymoron dictionary.
