The Kings are playing faster since Malone's firing to the detriment of their defense-Sactown Royalty

Yet another article detailing the disastrous decision to reverse course and pick up the pace. The best part? The offense isn't scoring any more points. If the team were playing the same schedule Malone had early, this team would still be looking for that first win under Corbin.

Adjustment period my ass. Here's some data points for ya Gerbil. What are they telling you? The team is playing up tempo. Woopitty do everyone! Isn't this so much more fun?

PDA must be right. I'm not very smart. I can't make those numbers look like an improvement vs Malone no matter how hard I try.

"Sacramento's firing of Mike Malone has to date been one of the more confusing firings in recent memory. Malone had the Kings playing well over the first part of the year, leading them to a 9-6 record before star center DeMarcus Cousins fell ill with viral meningitis. Just one game before Cousins was expected back, Malone was fired after a loss to the Detroit Pistons at home that dropped the Kings to 11-13 and just 2-7 in the prior nine games. The reasoning given for Malone's firing was that he wasn't playing the uptempo style of basketball that the Kings front office wanted to see."

The comment by Ziller added to the article is interesting, because somehow our offense doesn't look that fast to me.

We were about 15th in Pace under Malone (i.e. NOT slow, ie. faster than the Spurs etc.).

I believe we're 9th or 10th in Pace under Corbin, unless I misunderstood and Corbin has actually raised our overall season long Pace ranking to 9th/10th (meaning Corbin would have to have us like 4th or 5th in his time). But I don't think its the latter.

Sacramento's way of playing fast is just out of control.

Only a moron would waste a talent like DMC to play the way you want just because.

The Kings were 17th under Malone. They have been 2nd in pace during the span Corbin has coached.

Overall the Kings are now 10th in pace, just a tenth of a point behind Dallas.

For what it's worth, after the interview PDA said he thought we were playing too fast under Corbin. FWIW.

That's true. But honestly I thought that was one of the more contradictory parts of the morning at the studio.

As I recall, D'Alessandro said all of the following:

(1) Part of the reason the team dismissed Mike Malone had to do with pace and getting up and down the court more
(2) Every player can run and we need to push the pace to take advantage of things
(3) He doesn't think we need to be tops in pace but should be somewhere in the top third - wherever the team is most effective
(4) He thinks Corbin has them pushing the pace too fast.
(5) But he won't dictate to a coach what the pace should be.

I actually agree with D'Alessandro that the team wasn't taking some opportunities to get out in transition and their early offense action wasn't impressing me a ton but from the outside looking I'm not sure exactly what message Tyrone Corbin is getting or what he thinks he should be doing.

It's silly that the last two actual good coaches that we had (Adelman and Malone) are guys that were too successful for their own good. One ousted because he wasn't interesting enough to talk to and the other because he didn't play sexy uptempo ball with slow/young players with no uptempo skill.

Maloof regime and Vivek regime are starting to gel together. Meddling owner with goals outside of wins and inept/lazy/lame duck GMs. Pretty sad.

I don't understand. It's like neither of them have even played basketball. Fast breaks/transition points come off turnovers. They don't come off made baskets. Defense makes turnovers and long rebounds. All you have to do to get a defensive minded coach to add pace is add some emphasis on leaking early and looking for the quick downcourt pass. Instill defense and you will have your opportunities for pace.

With a yougn team and a young coach, defense should be first no matter what. Look at this pile of filth we have now.

Another terrific article:

Something Has Been Up With DeMarcus Cousins Since The Kings Fired Their Coach Out Of Nowhere

In a recent game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Cousins stood completely still on a critical fourth quarter play, perhaps frustrated with Gay going one-on-one and not passing the ball.

The Kings' problems are also a matter of playing style under new coach Tyrone Corbin. Since Malone's firing, the Kings are just 28th in the NBA in defensive rating, giving up 111.6 points per 100 possessions. Their offensive efficiency has increased because of an increased pace, but a fast-paced style doesn't suit Cousins' bruising post play. As SB Nation's Mike Prada noted, the Kings' quick pace is just wearing Cousins out.

pace sure must be important when you are losing to lottery teams and the players are fatigued to the point where they don't want to play defense anymore. Honestly, they don't play that much faster to me, it's just more chucking

In my opinion that article is absolutely on target.

Haha, seriously!?!?! First it's too slow, now it is too fast?!?!

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW.....Our FO is a bunch of tools.

The problem is that they all share the same idiotic delusions. It's just a big "data points" circle jerk in Kings HQs right now. Sucks.

Not exactly poetic, but it sure had me laughing!
