I'll admit it, I don't follow the Giants as much as I used to. Living on the East Coast, many of their games don't start until 10-10:30 PM out here. I will drop in on ESPN.com to see how they are doing. I was on last night and noticed they were on a 5 game skid thinking, dang when is Lincecum pitching again? Sure enough...today. Sure enough, losing streak over. 11 pitch first inning with 3 called third strike strikeouts. Damn, I wish I could of seen that. They better lock this kid up for a long time. The kid is 5-1 with a 1.61 ERA. Can you say All Star game?

Can you say Cy Young?

:D

He's electric!!!

Cain taking matters into his own hands with a HR!!! Nice game Matt!!

When the Giants scored 3 in the bottom of the first, Cain was probably wondering if he was supposed to be pitching.

OY this thread has died with the season.

We might as well start calling Timmy "Cy Lincecum." ...If he does not win the Cy Young it will be a complete abomination...He is far and away the most exciting and best pitcher in the NL.

And Sandoval has breathed some life into our lineup! I really like the kid, and pray he sticks at third base! A 23 year old position player from our own minor leagues...Its a beautiful thing.

Shoutout to Ishikawa as well!

Then we also have 2 more pitching STUDS in the minors!
18 year old Tim Alderson!
http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/...im Alderson&pos=P&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=518396
18 year old Madison Bumgardner! (Look at those numbers!)
http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/...n Bumgarner&pos=P&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=518516

AND solid prospects throughout!

Im starting to LOVE the direction this team is going!

So long as they FIRE BOCHY.

The sad thing is I watching "Baseball Tonight" a few weeks ago and they were all but handing the award to Webb. It was the first time since NBA season that I found myself yelling at the TV.

Yes...You just have to love the overrated win stat.

Who knows...Hopefully he implodes two or three more times throughout the year? 6 ER's the other night!

:D

I too like the direction this team is going. We have several internal options in the future. And by the time we have to pay these kids, the Zito contract will be gone.

Looking to the future (2011-2012)

Lewis - LF
Burriss - SS
Posey - C
Villalona - 1B
Rowand - CF
Sandoval - 3B
Schierholtz - RF
Gillaspie - 2B

Frandsen/Bowker/Ishikawa/Horwitz/Crawford

Lincecum
Cain
Sanchez
Zito
Bumgarner

Wilson/Alderson/Valdez/Pucetas/Romo/Hinshaw/Sadler/Hedrick

Much of this talent will be cheap through 2013/2014. The future certainly looks bright.

Go Gigantes

Tim "Cy" Lincecum seals the deal tonight.

Although everyone is fretting about the high pitch counts...Im actually not. Tim is Rubberman... A flashback to the days of yore where a pitcher could throw complete games every other night.

I have no doubt in my mind Tim is going to remain an elite despite high pitch counts and a huge workload.

Pitcher of the era? Way beyond to early to tell, but if he can stay healthy he's on to one heck of a great start!
(Pardon my over the top fanboy thrill, but its a real possibility!)

Good job kid.

And thank you for giving light to an otherwise terrible season.

...
...

And in other news, Madison Bumgarner wins the minor league pitching triple crown, and becomes the second Giant in a row to win the Minor League Pitcher of the Year.

Can't wait to see you right behind Timmy.

How about this trade....!

Cain for Fielder, Hardy and maybe one more.

As much as I love Cain, I would do it. Think about next year's starting lineup:

Lewis - LF
Winn - RF
Hardy - SS
Fielder - 1B
Sandoval - 3B
Rowand - CF
Molina - C
Burriss - 2B

Bench: Aurilia, Schierholtz, Frandsen......

Then you go out and sign CC Sabathia to a huge contract. We have money to spend and CC would love to return to The Bay.

Lincecum
Sabathia
Zito
Sanchez
Lowry/Correia/Hennessey

If we would need to clear money to make the deal just plug Schierholtz into RF and trade Winn ($8M) for a prospect.

I wouldn't sign CC...We would have so much money invested in two pitchers it would be tough to resign Lincecum...

If only the Mets signed Zito instead of us...

And I would trade Rowand before I trade Winn...The guy hasn't grown on me, and I think his 'Warrior Spirit' would be more appreciated around the league.

I disagree about not having enough money to re-sign Cy Lincecum. You structure the contract for CC the opposite of Zito's...in other words, you pay him more the first couple years, and then it deflates after the third year to an even $15-16M. Maybe you pay enough the first couple years so that you could get it to deflate to $12M/yr for the remaining years. Then you give Lincecum whatever deal works to keep him here for a long time.

For the next 4 years or so, much of our young talent, both hitting and pitching, will be relatively cheap. And in 2-3 years you will have the next influx of cheap young talent -- Bumgarner, Alderson, Pucetas, Posey, Gillaspie....

When Sanchez becomes expensive, trade him for prospects and insert Bumgarner. When the 5th pitcher becomes expensive, trade him for prospects and insert Alderson. Then you have 2 cheapies to go with the three bigger pitching contracts. They will be eating up 40-50% of the payroll, but you would have the nastiest pitching lineup in perhaps the history of baseball.

On the hitting side, when Fielder becomes expensive, trade him and insert Villalona. Hardy you could potentially re-sign long term and make Hardy/Burriss the middle infield for a while. Sandoval and Posey will boss 3B and C forever, hopefully. Lewis and Scheirholtz will be cheap for 3-4 years too, so when they become expensive Rowand's contract will expire and you will have another cheap influx of outfielders.

And as for the bullpen, those guys are always cheap for what you get. Valdez and Wilson seem to be the ones I would throw a little more money at, but for a team that finds diamonds-in-the-ruff quite often when it comes to piching, you know there will be plenty of cheap, servicable arms to throw in there.

If I get some extra time, I will break down the contracts year by year and show you how if we spend the same money that we spent when we were "competing" with Bonds, which is around $100M/yr, that we will have plenty of money to have Timmy-CC-Zito and still keep all the other young talent. In other words, we could start competing next year and continue it for a while.
